@@andrewb2475 I was thinking the same while watching the chrome plating bit. Here in the UK it's getting hard to find places to chrome plate stuff because of all the tightening health and safety legislation. Apparently, the the amount of mandated safety equipment, the cost and number of licences needed just to be allowed to possess the chemicals, and the costs to dispose of the used chemicals has all gone through the roof, and few companies want to wade through all the ever changing legislation to keep doing it. I didn't see one piece of PPE in this whole video. No chemical spill containment kits, and very few western style health and safety procedures. It makes me think that employer liability and health and safety legislation must be so lax over there that they can get away with "Using" people like a consumable part of the business. Once they get maimed or cough up too much blood they'll just be replaced with a new person. :( Trouble is, if we keep buying the products this will continue, but if we stop buying from countries with this kind of "Disposable staff" mentality, millions of people suddenly have no jobs and starve. It's hard to know what's the "least worse" option.

@@andrewb2475 i understand your point, but since when is it the owners responsibility to buy proper shoes? Here in the US each person is responsible for their own proper clothing. Now depending on what you do, the employer may furnish PPE. They certainly don't buy each person clothes. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing those "so called" factories are partially owned by the government, or at least the community.

@@timothygeiger8271 That's very interesting, here in the UK it's the owner's who have to provide essential PPE. Mine supplies me with steel toe cap shoes, overalls and safety glasses................though I buy my own because they have a prescription lens. However the overalls will always be the property of my employer and I WILL have to give them back when I leave.

Very interesting, thank you for uploading these videos. Those fittings are much better quality than the ones we get in the UK. They are brass and the plating will last for decades. The ones they sell us here are mainly made from zinc alloy and the plating breaks down in about 2 - 5 years. The fitting then has to be replaced which is very wasteful of time and resources.

Very interesting, thank you for the video. The core making is especially nice to see, very close to how it´s still done in some small brass foundries here (Europe). The moulding and pouring techniques look like they were adapted from an earlier practice in brass founding, where the foundry flasks had an opening in one short end, and were set upright for pouring. (Hence the name flask). The fact that they pour the castings in two tiers or layers also points towards this, because the upright flasks were usually clamped together several at time. And finally the pouring hole (forgot the English term) is placed right at the end of a central runner, close to the end wall of the flask, where it would originally have come straight out in the middle of the parting line of the short end. All faucets and steam armatures of smaller sizes were poured in upright flasks here as late as the 1960s or thereabouts. I have copies of a few barrel tap and water tap patterns from an old foundry that worked in this way. So again, a very interesting look at some highly skilled work with practices well adapted to the equipment at hand.

@@altmash5080 I´m not surprised, I wrote that more for myself than anyone else, as kind of a reminder. But it´s really simple, back in the day, the frames holding the sand were stood up on end, and poured through a hole half in one frame, half in the other. This is seen today as slightly primitive, but is still done by silversmiths and others when they make small castings in sand moulds. The method shown in the video is very similar, except it uses standard flasks or frames, which lack the pouring hole through the end. I was thinking aloud that the guys in the video probably knew about that older method, but used their standard moulding boxes /frames and adapted their technique slightly.
