As I understand it, the idea is that manufacturers don't really control carbon content that closely with rebar, so you j u s t might be lucky and find that yours does pass the file test after heat treat. On my channel there's a rebar sword video. - after making it I realised it didn't matter to me whether the rigmarole had achieved anything as I'd better not sharpen it, given that everyone who sees it wants to pick it up and look at it, so I don't keep it sharp anyway. But obviously, most people want to make a functional item and wouldn't be content with having made a mere wallhanger.

Generally speaking, you can somewhat tell if it’s harden-able by how well it sparks when you grind it. The more sparks, the better. At least that’s what I have heard while watching Forged in Fire for 9 seasons.

The noise is hellish, take care of your health, at least you're hearing, when you lose it, you never get it back. The machine that hits metal is a dream for many blacksmiths, who do everything by hand! You're in luck ! 🤠👍

I stopped watching after you spent six minutes trying to make it look cool as opposed to just making it a good knife. Personally, a rebar knife is fine, it's basically just an iron knife and we had a whole age of human history devoted to iron but this "it's so pretty" or "I don't care if it's worth a damn as long as it looks cool" attitude is the worst part of trying to be a craftsman these days. All sizzle, no steak is a huge problem and we should be ashamed. You wanna do pretty? Become a jeweler.
