MIND BLOWING Lechon(Roast Pig) in Cebu Philippines! First Time Trying Roast Suckling Pig

When I asked about what foods to eat in the Philippines, most of my local friends said LECHON(Roast Suckling Pig), not just any Lechon, but Lechon from the city of Cebu.
In fact, they love it so much that they make every excuse to get a lechon. Whether they are partying for a birthday, a wedding, or even a day at the beach, the roast suckling pig MUST be present to make the best of the get-together.

I was stationed in the Philippines during the 80's, and my wife of 32 years is from Bulacaan so we have Lechon every year for her birthday party. The problem is the pigs in the US are raised to be leaner then in the PI, so (though still Masarup) they are not as good. Great vlog though, I stumbled on your vlog about Sprial and that is at the hotel I have been staying at when it was just called the Philippine Plaza in the 80's so I can't wait to get there and try it

@Sean Ogrady...Cebu is the only place in the world that cook lechon into perfection even without the need for a sauce. That's why celebrity chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain declared it as the world's best. Only people outside Cebu who eat their lechon with a fancy sauce because the meat doesn't taste good without it. Many of my friends and relatives from Manila get their lechon from Cebu via air freight every time they have special occasions like birthday, wedding, conference, etc. They don't mind the extra expenses just for the Cebu lechon. People from all over fly to Cebu just for the lechon. Cebu lechon is the highest standard in roast pig.

The taste of lechon can vary depending on the person cooking because of the spices, herbs, and seasoning used. My family always cook our own lechon and my great grandpa used to stuff the lechon belly with whole chicken that is also stuffed. The taste is really different. Great with rice. My favorite dip is garlic, vinegar, and those small spicy chilies. The soup I love that goes great with it is sinigang in my humble opinion. Carcar lechon is also great but Talisay City is also trying to steal that title from them.

It was from the backyard of some warehouse guys who invited us for a christmas party lol. They dug a shallow hole, got some coal burning in it then pit roasted the pig. When it was ready, it was glorious. And knowing that were the visitors, they gave us the best bits. And it was the best lechon I've ever had.
