Check out facebook, there are pages and groups on the Fijian language and culture like this one called "Domo ni Vanua e Aotearoa" although it's mostly meant for Fijians living in NZ.

I just heard people of Rwanda speaking and I noticed similarities in their language with Austronesian languages and here I notice it too. Because it's spoken soft and fluently, no staccato sounds, many soft consonants , no throat sounds, often short syllables with one consonant and one vowel.

I remember hearing some of my Fijian Indian friends speaking in Fijian, mostly when they are discussing something they don't want others to hear or know. It was pretty cool.

sounds a lot like tagalog to me. I speak a malayo-polynesian language, and so it sounded like I could understand what she's saying, but it doesn't make sense to me.

Haha it does! Sounds Indonesian... From Madagascar through Indonesia & Philippines then through Melanesia Micronesia and Polynesia all the way to Easter Islands .. All of those lands have languages in the Austronesian lingual family. Pretty interesting huh?
