Interviewers used to ask him stupid questions to perpetuate their "Tysons a brute animal" narrative. Tyson maybe didn't respond well to it, but having assumptions being made about you probs blows. He was a monster in the ring for sure, but he only was out of pocket ONE TIME when he bit that guy's ear off.

Holyfield basically did just that. Smothered Tyson, crowded him and pushed him back. Tyson often fought in a "squared up" stance, meaning your feet are basically side by side instead of one behind the other diagonally. It helps you generate great power with both hands but you're weak to being pushed back. Tyson couldn't fight off the back foot (cause he never needed to) and failed to cut angles defensively, so he paid the price.

It amazes me how many people are surprised by Mike's "turn around" so to speak. He was definitely an angry young man but he has always been someone full of love and kindness. You could always tell tyson had a gentle soul, no matter how ferocious he was in ring. This is a man who very clearly just wanted to be loved. Iron Mike Tyson was part character part outlet for the man Mike Tyson to vent all his pain and anger. It's interesting how a man who admits he was projecting his own fear outward was able to intimidate some of the baddest men on the planet. I don't think he wanted ro be a villain, it's just that he was labeled a villain and decided to run with it.

Mike really is the nicest guy in real life. It's actually kind of interesting because you see these people who are like "the worlds best boxer" or "worlds best fighter" and you think they'll be scary or kind of crazy in real life. But most of the time they end up being these really chill people. And there's actually a really sound logic to it. The truth is that when you're at that level you have to be as controlled as possible, because the outcome at that level is based on who's in better control longer, not who's more violent. In fact if you're out of control 9/10 times you'll lose, because you won't be able to follow the game plan and everything will fall apart.

Did that harsh time mold him into what he became in the ring? He has obviously mellowed into a warm, thoughtful, patient person, husband and father over the years - even the toughest fighter in the world cannot defeat time - and I'd love to meet him as I have so many questions to ask and memories of the 1980s/1990s with him in the ring and outside it. He was scary.... and he beat some of his opponents before he even entered the ring because of how intimidating he was. Some of his opponents were scared to death of him before they even entered the ring with him. Now, to see him like this.... calm, chill, easygoing, funny, and nice... seems like a totally different person. Now I'd like to meet him some day.
