    I am REALLY enjoying the success of the Dolphins offense and your breakdown last year and this one is great. While I'm not part of 'tuanon' - I do think that over time we will all end up realizing that this kind of offense is primarily successful BEACUSE of Tua's greatness. No sure how long it will take - it took a while for people to recognize Drew Brees' greatness - his injury and the Chargers giving up on him set him back - but obviously his talent was always there. The only physical trait Tua is missing is a canon-arm - but he is ELITE at so many other aspects it's ridiculous... While watching this video and Tua getting the ball past Derwin on his blitz - I realized that I rarely see Tua's passes being batted at the line... looked it up and OF COURSE - between 2019-2022, he has the lowest % of passes batted at the line... the next closest to him? Brees, Brady, and Rodgers.

    The thing is Miami's very unpredictable . Mike mcdaniels is constantly changing up his plays..his playbooks so deep and versatile

  • @t4d0W

    @t4d0W

    8 ай бұрын

    Its not the unpredictability more than it is the immediate stress defenses have to deal solving the Tyreek/Waddle speed puzzle. As you saw McDaniel put Tyreek in situations where even the opposing teams' best press corner Michael Davis can't really put his hands on him by the first 15 yards. At that point Tua will just throw it at the spot where Tyreek is going at get his. And when Tyreek/Waddle are sorta covered, the other receivers usually find themselves open enough. The biggest revelation was against the Pats where McDaniel wasn't getting anything huge out of the pass game. So he pulled the right time to not run OZ and caught the Pats usually prepared run defense unaware for big chunk plays and into a score.

    Gon need a recap of the how McDaniel approached the Pats game too. He's getting pretty balanced with his ability to game plan his cheat codes on a weekly basis. Not only did he do it with the run, but he chose to NOT run OZ at the right time for a Mostert chunk play. The run game is alive and well.

    IMO, McDaniel is doing what Brandon Staley did. They are intelligent coaches who figure out how to design schemes tailored to the elite talents they possess. Staley built a unique Match Quarters defense around Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, where he got away with playing the run from 2-deep because of HOFer Donald, and Ramsey was good enough to MEG the backside on a lot of those Match zones. But when he tries to take that same scheme to the Chargers, it doesn't work. Because while the scheme was good, it was heavily reliant on some elite talent to make it go. The same can be said with what McDaniel is doing in Miami. He's got the best WR in the league in Hill and a very good WR2 who would be a WR1 on most teams in Waddle. Hill is the Aaron Donald of this scheme, doing all the heavy lifting and still winning matchups even though defenses gameplan specifically for him. He's the workhorse this scheme is built on, while Waddle is the Jalen Ramsey who's able to win the schematic matchups that fall to him. And not to slouch Tua at all - we know he throws a great ball and he's elite at making pre-snap reads to identify coverage and get the ball to the right guy. The way you beat Tua is the same way you beat him in Alabama - disguising coverage and rolling post-snap. He's elite at pre-snap reads but struggles (comparatively) when defenses change up their looks and make him decipher coverages mid-play. Not that he's a bad QB in those situations, but it's what makes him beatable. So all props to McDaniel for constructing this offense, just like Staley did for the Rams, but the question remains if McDaniel could make it work if he didn't have Tyreek Hill just like Staley couldn't make his work without Donald. But in the end that question doesn't matter too, because you could make the same argument about Phil Jackson being able to build an offense around Jordan (and using the same offense later with Kobe). There were other coaches who couldn't make it work with a younger Jordan, but in steps Phil implementing a new offense tailor-made for his superstar. And it obviously worked - does that make Phil a bad coach because the scheme only works with superstar HOFers like MJ and Kobe? Not at all, and in the same way I'm not taking away from what McDaniel has done in Miami. But given the shorter shelf life of elite NFL speed compared to an NBA superstar like Jordan, we'll see in a few years if McDaniel can still make this scheme work despite not having the best/fastest WR in the league.

    How is that motion to H-Back set and start running before the snap business NOT a false start? The player starts running his route pre-snap. Dont fet me started on "orbit motion" where the player starts boing backwards but they always rotate FORWARD to catch up with the QB at the snap. It's Illegal Motion. My comment sounds rhetorical, but I really do want to know why it's legal. Thanks in advance.

  • @ThinkingFootball

    @ThinkingFootball

    8 ай бұрын

    The answer is if the motion is going forward - that should be flagged, but rarely is. Lateral or backwards providing only 1 player is moving at a time is legal, if two players move at the same time they must set for one second, or that's an illegal shift. I think Miami push the boundary of what's forward, but having gone through pretty much every McDaniel Miami game, I'm comfortable in saying the overwhelmimg majority are totally legal. The timing of the snap and the QB getting the ball can sometimes make it look like its not though. However there are teams and snaps that absolutely DO get away with it, both the 9ers and Rams had snaps yesterday where they might aswell have been playing in the CFL.

    These are busted coverages. Good scheme worse defense

    The offense is a gimmick. It’s a poor man’s copy of McVay and Shannhans and will crumble exactly like last season when they start playing coherent defenses.

    @@MWBowen403 blocking concepts are nonexistent. Which is surprising since his position on the Niners was originally the run game coordinator. Its common knowledge he didn’t call plays there and it shows. His playbook is copy pasted from McVay’s 2018 season with Kyle’s 2021 scheme Deebo open for go routes instead of screens. It’s blatantly obvious and most likely will be exposed when someone probably (Belicheck or Saleh) decides to bracket Hill to end this charade.

    @@WrectumTerror Yeah i can see against say 2 man the backs will pass off Hill to the other side and play the ball as is. Instead of getting caught in traffic.

    @@WrectumTerror nearly happened against the Pats but McDaniel figured out something he didn't show as often last season: The run game. And Mostert can be just as good ripping chunk plays on the ground when McDaniel decided to NOT call OZ at the right time. I think the Jets don't fare any better unless they can actually pressure with 4 to Tua and maybe run 3 safeties to have someone sit underneath on coverage. Since none of the Jets LBs can match on coverage if Hill is running a route through them.

    Both Hill and Mahomes had their best years after they got separated, Mahomes is a Kelce merchant and did not target Hill as much as That does

    Ill answer this real easy...... Its the Chargers. The worst defense in the history ig all sports in any moment when they need to be clutch. The Chargers D is anti clutch.
