How the number 865 changed Mike McDaniel's life | NFL Countdown
Спорт

This video has helped me a lot. I just got back from my very first AA meeting. Mike McDaniel has inspired me to get sober and to be the person I know I can be. thank you coach. Love you bro.

One day at a time and be present. Don't worry about what you can't control. How other people live their life, good or bad, that's their journey. Only you can take that first step and subsequent steps. However, it does take that first step. Keep it steady. Keep moving forward. Stack your days and your wins, even if it's just a small win by saying no, because a win is still a win.

Excellent - kudos to you and keep at it - one day at a time, one hour at a time, one moment at a time. And you don’t have to do it “well” or “get it right” - just keep grinding. Wishing you all the best.

Mike McDaniel saved Tua. One more year with Brian Flores would of completely shattered his confidence.
As a current alcoholic in a bit of a hole myself, this was very inspiring. As long as I'm focused on doing my job and improving every day, I will be able to find a woman who will inspire me to be my best self. Thank you Coach McDaniel.

I quit drinking almost 4 years to the day and its great to enjoy everything life has to offer other than partying and thinking you're having fun when you don't even know what true happiness is yet until you're happy and sober.
Man no one knows about anyone's private life all I knew was he did a great thing coaching the 49ers offense and improved over time I pray he continues to better himself and his family and true friends as a 49ers fan I hated to see him go but am super happy for him being named coach of a franchise like Miami prayers for you and the family
How could you not love this video? I hope Mike has a great career as a HC.
Mike is hilarious and a great coach. SF misses him and wishes him lots of success. He coaches with positivity.
His dependence on alcohol, which pushed him away from confronting the root cause of the issue, is what made him have set backs. It was not himself as a human or the timing of his journey. Very powerful story, thank you Mike for your vulnerability.
As a Dolphin fan, I'm happy he is the head coach he seems like a great student of the game and doesn't expect less from the players. Good job Mike. Good job
McDaniels riding around with engine light driving a Audi .. he still has that savage mind lol😅
Been going through some difficult times at work lately. The last bit really hit differently. I MAY NOT BE ELITE, BUT WHILE I’M AT IT, I’M GOING TO DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO BE ELITE💪💪💪
People who embrace recovery like this become the best possible version of themselves and lift up others around them. It’s finding a blessing in a curse and it is totally inspiring. Almost everyone is addicted to something. They escape somehow. Alcoholics and addicts get pressed harder to change or die and what can come of the change is one of the most beautiful transformations in this world
Love this man! Our team is what it is today because of him! Gonna have the best year ever! Thanks Coach!!
Crazy. I'm 27 and lost my job as a footwear designer for The North Face, my dream job. Because I was partying too much and lost focus on myself and my job. I checked myself into rehab and am on the journey for my next job and to better myself and those around me. I will post back when I land my next gig, just to show people that this tough journey will have an outcome no matter what, and hope to inspire anyone who is in a hole that you don't know how much deeper it will get.

Between him and Tua I don't know how anyone can dislike this team. Seriously hope they win it all
Mike McDaniel is, by far, my favorite coach even before I knew all of this. But now that I know all of this, I know that he’s just like anybody else man. He has issues and isn’t perfect. He has worked to better himself but not “ fix” himself. He’s just very likable.
Wish i could be half as cool and good as a man as Coach McDaniel. What a stud.
Really is unbelievable the amount of talent we had coaching for the Redskins and we ended up with none of them.

His sunglasses on the sidelines scream great Miami football head coach. Love this guy!!
Proud of this dude, to be a recovering alcoholic & party animal in Miami is not easy. I dont even drink but live on the strip, I walk past girls, parties, music & bars everyday & its basically 24Hrs. Luckily you do get desensitized to it.
Ultra respect from a guy that is 100% Bills Mafia
Man I’m going to rehab for my alcohol and other addictions and this gives me so much strength
Stay spiritually positive and keep the Dolphins a dynamic football team as well!
Been a loooong time since the Fins had a coach that they wanted to play for and the 1st coach to actually use raw data instead of yeah yeah yeah numbers. Thanks coach, football is back in SoFlo to go along with our Futbol 🔥
Tua needed this type of coach. He had been through so many injuries, people questioning his arm talent etc. Also that last coach Brian Flores had absolutely no belief in him and made his disdain public.
Love Coach McDaniel !🏈 He sees the “good” in every player. Everyone has a story in life. Happy Coach addressed the “issues” . Tua believes in himself because of Coach .
What a gem of a coach and person. He brings perspective to the players and with that a drive to succeed. Now i wish the raiders could find a coach like this.
Couldn't be happier for both tua and Mike, tua never seemed to have the organization believe in him, but now he's got a coach that has his back. Also so glad that he's put the drinking behind him and is motivated to be the best. He's definitely an elite coach and an elite motivator.
As a life long Dolphins fan is goes without saying that Don Shula will always be a god to us but there is something about this man that i really like and i am all in and my gut feeling says he is going to take us back to the promise land (Super bowl).
That’s my teams coach and I couldn’t be happier with it
An incredible interview. I wish Mike all the best in his future coaching career.
Incredible piece on adversity and determination to succeed and over come your battles. Thank you Mike for being humble and true. Your an awesome head coach, Dolphin fans should be thrilled to death with his knowledge and experience. True Leader of men. I've always loved the underdog or the one who hits the bottom only to turn it around and become something special. Go Dolphins!!
Inspirational!! I lost my father at 14 yo and struggled with similar adversities! Happy for you brother! God bless you!
I love every second of this, and him. Thank you for doing this.
Protect this man at all cost
I had no idea how good a coach he was. I thought he was just another trendy young coach hiring but this guy is like a football genius. Wish he came to the Raiders.
I was Just about to give up on my lifelong team the Miami Dolphins now I'm super excited. I love everything about you as a coach keep up the good work
Great work, Jeff, giving people a view of Mike McDaniel that most people never see.
He's hard to not like.
At one point during the last Flores year I posted on Phins sites that the Phins should trade Tua to a team that knew how to develop a young QB because Flores had no idea of how to do it. I applaud Chris Grier for firing Flores and hiring Coach McDaniel. This year could be very special.
stand-up guy & phenomenal coach, truly a gem
7:16 *865* represents the amount of time he was out of the NFL from end of Houston to Washington. *246* was the time of day he got the call from Dolphin's owner, telling him he was their new HC.

As a Floridian, I have always been a Bucs & Jags fan but for most of my life felt indifferent to the Dolphins. However, I am no longer indifferent to them because of Mike. What he has been able to do in the past two seasons for this team has been absolutely remarkable and it's even more impressive knowing the adversity and battles he has had to overcome in his life to make it to this point. He has proven himself to be a phenomenal mind, a highly effective leader and most importantly an amazing husband and father. Miami is such a perfect fit for him and I really hope he will be coaching there for a long time. Can't wait to see what this team does next season!!
