One thing that really made this podcast interesting to listen to is the fact that it felt like there was a conversation going on between two broadcasters. Mike Joy really gave a lot of advice to Dale Jr and we, the listener, were able to hear almost all of it. Mike Davis occasionally coming in as a viewer like the rest of us, really made this feel all the more real.

There's just so many fond , great racing memories from listening to Mike Joy . His time in the pits & worked his way into the booth. Dale all of your podcasts are Amazing and since I've been around racing my whole 65 years on this earth, I've truly enjoyed every podcast but this one is extremely special ❤ because Mike Joy has been around racing forever, LOL, not that long but he truly brings the racing to life and incorporates stories which to me adds to my love of stock car /Nascar racing and I can't thank you enough for keeping the older stories alive, some even being heard perhaps for the first time!! It's PRICELESS AND A TREASURED BLESSING 🙏🤗❤ I enjoy the current stuff too but driver's in the early days of Nascar used every trick in the book to get an edge on fellow driver's (most illegal 🤣) but it was racing at It's best considering some like Junior Johnson was running moonshine before racing 🤣🤣 And some of those stories, you simply can't make up things they would admit to doing 🤣🤣 A lot was kept secret because you didn't want your rivalry to have the same edge as you because they might be a tick faster than you and NO DRIVER EVER WANTED ANYONE ELSE TO WIN EXCEPT THEMSELVES!!! Thanks for another jewel of a podcast!!!

Anyway, 2 or 3 weeks ago I was listening to some USAC races on Floracing, midgets I think, and there were two announcers doing play-by-play with perfect timing, telling us the action, back and forth like a tennis match. First one would talk, then the other, then back again. You could tell when they were done with their part just by the way they'd end the sentence, and by that time the other was ready to jump in. It was fun to listen to.

Mike Keith who now is Tennessee Titans announcer learned from Ward, and Keith is now already in TN Sports HOF. Would love to see a crossover podcast about their research practices and what they do behind the mic. The greats like Joy and Keith are worth the time to listen no matter if the sport they're announcing is the sport you usually watch, but I have a good reason to believe CFB, NFL, and NASCAR fans crossover a good bit. @@frankfarms83 I think a lot of it has been Fox but he hasn’t been what he’s been like 2005-2007 Mike Joy. He’s been off his game but not entirely his fault

It's funny they talk about the "Slide job" 'incident', and say that's what made it memorable. Because it's true! It was such an unexpected surprise, that I remember who was involved and at what track. It was Kyle Busch in the 18 vs Kyle Larson in the 42 racing for Chip at the time, and they were battling hard for the win at Chicagoland speedway in 2018. Larson was wanting to put the slide job on Busch, in the corner of 1 and 2 ,but couldn't quite get there. There was a bit of contact a slide prior, prompting Kyle Busch to then punt Larson in turns 3 and 4, with Busch then crossing the line to win the race. If it wasn't for that "Slidejob!" commentary, I wouldn't even think to remember as to when that moment was, or who was battling who.

Mike Joy is the voice of Nascar now. I do think without a doubt though that the great Ken Squier was his greatest mentor. Loved listening to those two with Buddy Baker and Neil Bonnet. Mike Joy always had a great supporting cast around him when he was learning the ropes and boy did it ever pay off. I mean Chris Economaki Dick Bergren Barney Hall Eli Gold etc etc. There were so many great broadcasters back in the day. Ken Squier and Ned Jarrett will always be my favorites. Don't sell yourself short Jr. You do a fantastic job and are only going to get better. Keep up the great work.
