Had Klaus not murdered Esther or Freya never being taken they might have. After all, the reason Mikael actually wanted to kill Klaus was that he not only killed Esther (Whom may I remind you is his own mother) and framed him for it thus turning his entire family against him, I would have done the same in Mikael's position. Don't get me wrong, I love Klaus, I do, but it was his own stupid fault that his entire family was hunted for centuries. But yeah, had they stuck together as Mikael actually intended at first, they would have been unstoppable, plus, after killing Finn, Mikael would have burnt Mystic Falls to the ground, Kol nor Rebekah would have stopped him leaving Klaus as Elijah was nowhere to be found, so yeah, Mystic Falls would be fucked.

WileyFox Trickster irrelevant. It never would’ve worked out. The fallout was inevitable. it just would’ve happened later. If Freya wasn’t taken it wouldn’t lay the basis for what they would eventually do to become vampires. Mikael barely tolerated Niklaus when he thought he was his son. When the truth came out, he had no ties to Niklaus anymore and felt justified in his action to destroy him. Klaus killed Esther because his emotions were all out of whack being both a Werewolf and a vampire at the same time. His sadness at being lied to and betrayed by Esther was too much which spurred him to kill her. It was Esther’s infidelity with Ansel that was the final nail in the coffin. Plus of course Freya was only taken because of Esther’s aspirations. Mikael was abusive, violent and dangerous yes but none of it would’ve happened without Esther. She is the true evil

My heart broke when Klaus asked him why he hated him & he said, “I don’t know I just did” 😩😢😭 his abuse & cruelty made the Klaus the monster he was!

I don’t like Mikael as a character, but I think he was a good villain. The one thing that made me feel bad for him was the pain in his voice when he said “he murdered my wife, his own mother” because even though Ester cheated on him with the wolf guy Mikael still loved her and Klaus killed her and then blamed it on him so Mikael lost his wife and all of his kids because of Klaus.

It's true that his own wife cheated on him, but his rage towards Klaus is OverSized. Klaus never asked to be hated by his stepfather, or to be born to another man. All of Mikael's rage should go to Esther.

esther loved klaus but she was no better. she let klaus be abused by mikael for years before they became vampires, and it was esthers fault. she gave him that necklace thing that made him physically weak, (fueling mikaels hatred for him) so he wouldnt trigger his werewolf side and mikael find out she was unfaithful. she basically stood by and let her child be abused because of her own fear.

Am I the only one who actually thinks that Mikael should've been a big bad of atleast a season? Think about it he is much stronger than Niklaus and the rest of The Originals, he is the thing that Niklaus fears and the reason why Niklaus is paranoid. That is my opinion because I don't think Mikael had enough screen time.

This was so good. I really liked Mikael as a villain. Although, I do wish we got to see more of Mikael's softer side. When he first showed up on the vampire diaries, we saw how polite he was during his time with Katherine when she found him in the tomb chained up in a coffin. He was so polite, said please and thank you, even apologized to Katherine for his rude and harsh behavior when he shouted at her. He even said to Katherine that he'd been avoiding drinking human blood/anything alive for as long as he could remember. Which means he was so cautious and hesitant about taking human life like that. But after a few episodes he's portrayed as this cruel, heartless, and very harsh character who didnt even mind drinking/feeding on human blood. I do wish we could've seen his softer side. Also, I really think the reason why he hated Klaus basically from the start, was because he may have reminded Mikael of Freya. In the beginning, when Klaus was first born Mikael said he didn't hate him right off the bat. That he was actually overjoyed and thought he would be a strong boy. Esther even said the same. But I think once Klaus got a little older he started to look a lot like Freya, the child who he loved most of all and lost so suddenly. He had the same blonde hair and eyes as her, and maybe even the same spirit. But because Mikael knew Klais wasn't Freya, would never be her, and that he would never again see her, maybe that made him angry. Angry at the fact that he was forced to keep looking at a child who reminded him so much of the daughter he loved and lost. And it's not like Mikael could just grieve the way many others would. Mikael was raised to be strong, tough, and to never show emotions to others, even grief. Because it was considered weakness. So Mikael did the only thing he knew. Deal with it through anger, harshness, determination, strength. And once Mikael saw that Klaus wasn't living up to the idea that he had in his head, that probably made Mikael angrier that Klaus seemed to be letting down his memory of Freya. Which made him hate him even more. Because as you see throughout the series, Mikael is only ever harsh with Klaus, even as a boy. He was the toughest on Klaus and spent most of his time brutally teaching him to be strong. It's like he was trying to make Klaus strong enough because deep down he didn't want to lose him to weakness like he did with Freya. After he found out Klaus wasn't his son, then I think he just plain hated him. In his eyes, Klaus was already weak and not strong enough to handle himself, which made Mikael constantly pissed off, klaus probably reminded him a lot of Freya, which would probably further his annoyance/rage, and to top it off, then he finds out Klaus isn't his son and not only ends up killing his wife, but also "turns" his other kids against him. I just think Mikael snapped. Mikael's line to klaus: "I just did" was the first time in probably ever that mikael's true emotions for Klaus came to the surface. I think deep down, he didn't want to hate Klaus, but all the circumstances just kept piling up, and the emotional damage that he suffered from losing Freya, he just couldn't help but to show his emotions the only way he knew how. I really wish we could've seen more of Mikael and his backstory. He was a really good villain but also I think he was a good character to watch. I think deep deep down, he would've been a good character, but too many things just made him evil. It's a shame. Sebastian Roche definitely nailed the role though. I always love the characters he plays.

Why would a man beat the child that reminded him of his beloved child? One would think the reminder is something precious. If he couldn't deal with the emotion, he would have more likely tried to ignore Klaus not beat him out of existence. Mikael hated Klaus because he was reminder that his wife had fcked another man. I don't care how polite a man is but if he can beat a child - repeatedly, through year- he's not much of a man.

I think its more about the fact that Micheal was a viking. They were a violent and cruel people who only believed in strength and violence. He likely even took part in some of the village raids which would eventually capture his wife. When he fell for her he probably saw it as an escape from that life and must have tried his best to bury his beastly nature. But when he suffered the loss of his children it began to chip away at him and re-awaken that side of him. I think Klaus reminded him too much of himself. Micheal was denied of his humanity most of his life, evident by the cruel way he behaves around his family. You're right in saying that he couldn't show emotion, and that can gnaw at a person from the inside out, but it goes even further. He hated himself for his failures to protect his children, for his violent rage which was instilled in him by his people, and now here is born this boy who seems 'weak' and 'frail' and reflects so much of himself back at him, and he can't help but hate him, because he hates himself. His father became extremely narcissistic and instead of taking responsibility for himself, his actions and his own rage, he decided to take it out on his child who reminded him too much of everything he hates about himself. Its hard for even a modern person with any self awareness or knowledge of psychology to realize this, but imagine a man from a completely different time trying to express why he hated his own son. There's no way hes going to know why he feels the way he does, add to the fact that his abuse/emotional detachment eventually wrought the ruin of his family and created a justification to truly hate Klaus. If he had searched himself and found the pain behind his feelings, found a way to forgive himself and most of all his son, things might've turned out differently. As it is, he continued the cycle of abuse that he likely had to endure from his viking people, and now Klaus is forced to be the one who breaks the cycle. I definitely think he succeeded in the end. It's just too bad that he never really found happiness. So much of his life was violence, despair and heartache. He never found any real lasting peace.

Agreed. I think his behavior towards Katherine, was bcos he too, remembered her ancestor Tatia was murdered by Elijah, how else could she get rid of her corpse. Remember, Elijah was the first to kill after Michael compelled another servant human to feed Klebekah. Elijah, nor Finn or Kol weren't seen in that scene, but I suspected, Klelijah x Kolbekah were killed in their sleep while Finn was awake, it would explain why Finncent magically took down Mikael the way he did. Finn didnt get a choice to remain a witch, Mikael took that choice away from all his kids, including Klaus. I suggest, he didn't mean for Tatia to die, but she did. Like Tatia said to Elijah "when your mother asked for my blood, i didn't think this would happen." Honestly Tatia was innocent in all of this, she was a widow and a single mother who liked to party, sworn to both Klelijah, and yet loved Klaus but just as much as she did Elijah, yet her child was never seen, did Esther tell her child their mother died, or was it Mikael?? How else would Katherine's mother or father, existed, yet it was her father who sent Nadia away. I think it was her father who carried the Petrova gene pool, her mother was married into the family curse. Seriously, when Katherine died the first time before overtaking Elena's body, so much went wrong for her, been hunted by Klaus bcos of Elijah's mistake of loving her. What did Mikael truly do exactly? He respected women, just hated Klaus for no reason.

The dialogue you include on Cami really put this over the top. She was one of the first people to truly understand Klaus and why he behaved the way he did. She gets a lot of hate sometimes, but she was an excellent addition to the show

@@1cheness I really liked Ian Somerhalder (aka Damon) however the writers showed him as a bad boy and then by the end of it he was a hopeless romantic. Not that anything is wrong with it (I love Jaime Lannister from GOT) however his character could have a little bit more story and his character can be more fleshed out like they did with Stefan. The actor actually was so good that made us still love him even though his character free increasingly 2 dimensional. And at the finale, most fans wanted him to survive more than anyone.

I love Elijah’s character, the way he said “then you’ll become everything you hate....our father” I love the way he says it so casually and that led klaus to get mad at him and everyone in the room😂😂

Mikael was a true Viking.

Mikael is one of the best characters in TVDU. His introduction was so iconic! “The vampire hunter who hunts vampires” when he finally makes an appearance he’s so polished and somewhat moral. He feeds on vampires and doesn’t want to hurt the innocent but in TO they turn him into a generic bad guy with 0 morals :/

She risks her life for klaus

This edit shows just how mush of a complex relation Mikael and Klaus have. They both think that they are right and that the other one is the bad guy when in reality they both are at fault for completly diffrent things. Mikael didn't have to be a straight up cruel father, he didn't have to treat who he thought was his son so badly and abuse him physically and verbally and then hunt all of his children down for centuries. And Klaus' mistake was killing his mother in a fit of anger and blaming Mikael for it, he made him look like a monster to the rest of his siblings for centuries. B ut the raw emotion that is sown in some of these clips really do speak for them in many ways.

Mikael was to most savage Original, not even Klaus could beat him when both were at full strength, only by catching him off guard. Klaus was more like Mikael than any of the siblings. I felt Mikael even knew that and truly did care for Klaus though his pride was to intertwined with his hatred that Klaus wasn't his blood. When he reached for Klaus' face when dying you could see that he really did love Klaus.

The Originals is so complex and well thought out, it’s rich in storytelling and the script is just top tier.

"If you honestly believe that I would betray my own brother for you" Now that is some real brotherhood.

Veronica he didn’t actually, he loved him in the beginning. Mikael thought that Klaus had the eyes of a warrior as a baby:)

it's a different kind of pain when someone compares you to someone in your family that is despised, because while you may hate them too, you still can't help but love them, and even then you don't want to ever be likened to them or become them

Mikael was the best villain! I just wish after Klaus and Mikael allied he would have stayed around longer and they showed him try and atone to his children. He even tried to reach out to Klaus in his dying moments to show that he did care for him after all.

I maintain killing Mikael was a mistake. Anyone can be redeemed and his redemption would be powerful.

I can see the pain klaus felt when he killed his father. He really wanted to love mikael but he couldn't.

Is it weird I don't hate Mikael? Like he was broken after he lost Freya, the only I don't like about him is how he treated Niklaus. But for real how would you feel your wife cheated on you and you raised another man's son, and have your whole family turn against you. Niklaus had told people Mikael killed Esther, which be didn't. How would you feel getting blamed for your wife's death when you know who actually killed her.

"I don't know, i just did" wasn't representing Mikael's motives in my opinion. They should've give him a better reason to hate Klaus before he found out that he wasn't his son. Because otherwise it's pointless. Maybe he seek to see Freya in Nik but when he couldn't, he got angry or he felt the wolf temperature in him and he was suspicious. Nothing but "I just did" Maybe they were trying to point that all the hatred was really pointless. Mikael raised Nik like his son so he was his son and nothing in the world couldn't have changed that. "A father's hatred towards his son is pointless" Maybe that was the case in their story.

@Autumn Heys i remember it but when klaus asked him before he turned Mikael into ashes, he answered as "I just did" it's what botheres me. They should've make Mikael more than that but i guess people doesn't change after all and they tried to tell this...

I think it was that he wanted Klaus to be a strong Viking warrior because he recalled when Klaus was born he was overjoyed and said he had a warrior heart. When Klaus displayed non warrior like behavior he tried in his own way a tough and abusive way to make Klaus stronger. Then it just got worse though the years because Klaus was still wearing the necklace which made him weak.

Wasn't necessarily a fan of Camille but *wow* the balls on that girl is just mindblowing!!

This actor is very good no one could do Mikael better than him

The patriarch of the original family. He was one badass vampire. He was definitely the strongest of all them and could probably give Marcel and Lucien a run for their money. He was pure rage all the time

Why do I enjoy Mikael saying BOYY!

I wont liTerally Care about any hate.....but the height at which Mikael was badass even fuckin' voldemort can't reach there....he is the craziest savage character I have ever seen .....Klaus have no fear of anyone and then comes the word 'BOI' even the most fearless beast gets Chillin' Vibes..

Yeah, Kol seeking out ways to use magic as a Vampire and his struggle to overcome his hunger/lust and accept his immortality would be interesting. That and his encounter with the cult of Silas and how he came to end them. Klaus used his time to build notoriety and create the Sun/Moon Curse myth and find ways to become a Hybrid. Elijah used his time to try and build an elite organisation of Vampires that could advance the world. It would be interesting to see what Kol did for himself and Vampires.
