Great installation

We use this radio in my wife's Forester and it works great. For $40, we got a Laird NMO mount and antenna which is about 9"-10" long and the suv still gets under the garage door without hitting. It's tuned to GMRS and works great. Using the local GMRS repeater, we have about a 20 mile area of coverage (in diameter) which gets us in contact for all the neighboring towns. Finally, my wife has coms. Us ham guys can't get our families interested until it gets this simple. Works great. GMRS is a great way to go.

Great Video Jesse. I like that stubby antenna. Looks real clean. And the add-a fuse is a time saver! Oh, and that Trail Adventures TV patch was spotted!

Thank you for the video. I do have my installed but got to clean it up. Your video helps a lot. Though I don't have a 4x4. I have a 2017 Ford Escape Ecoboost SE FWD. but I live out in the boonies so it does help to have GMRS. I'm just plugging it in to the 12 volt. I have four of them to choose from. I will upgrade to the ghost antenna. Best video I've seen for installation by far. Great job. Keep them coming, and you have a new subscriber now.

They wanted to charge me $150 to do the install at a car stereo installation place. Heck no! For less than $10 and your video I was able to do it myself. The only suggestion I would have is if others go and buy the add a fuse first as I did, make sure you buy the one for the mini fuses. I had to make a return trip because I bought the standard sized add a fuse. Thanks for this video!

To be safe --- fuse both the power (+) and the ground (-) so you don't lose the ground and the coax will try to carry the load. BTW: you can install either the Midland MXT275 or MXT575 radios anywhere you want within reason - it does NOT have to be seen or stuck under the dash or in someone's kneespace. The mic - which has all the controls you need on it - will plug into a standard Cat5e cable extension - or like I did - I took out one of my power ports and stuck a flange mounted Cat5e panel jack there. Then you can remove the handset and there's nothing left to see. Don't even try to run the radio - and especially the MXT575 - through any controlling device at all - no ignition switches or anything but straight to the battery. The MXT575 installation manual will tell you that - but it's best for any radio to go directly to the battery.

I’ve seen a couple of your videos now and was curious about the fact that you put the add a fuse in the same spot as you did with your updated switch panel. Did you use the same add a fuse for both?

Nice video Jesse I enjoyed it very informative. I would however put my area on the roof rack this way you have 360° unobstructed signal by putting it at the front it’s OK if you’re talking to someone to the left and right if you are in front of you however the signal now has to try and pass through your entire truck to talk to someone behind you you would get a far superior signal by having it on the roof just a suggestion mate.

Hey Jesse, did you covered the ditch lights because of California?

Can the radio communicate with hand held Midland radio's or only another same type of radio?

How's the radio sound quality in that location? I ended up switching from the original mini magnet antenna on my roof to the fender behind my ditch light. The sound quality is a lot worse even though it's a cleaner set up. On the cowl where you have it was my second choice before I decide to go for it and cut a hole in the roof. Would love to hear your thoughts.

What's your GMRS handle?

I got a 2017 Tacoma I put CB in it but when I put on the breaks it would effect the radio. The needle would move to zero and stay there and when I release the break paddle the radio will go back to normal use

Love your videos. Makes me want to keep getting stuff for my taco. What is the link for the stubby antenna with the wiring and bracket. Couldn’t find it on midlands link unless I’m looking wrong

I tucked it behind the carpet in between driver and passenger side where I ran the wires threw it comms it’s usually not good to bundle the cables but I did it and havnt noticed any problems

Get a gearkeeper for your mic and hook it to the rearview mirror so it wont block the vents airflow

Does the radio remember your last on/off? What I mean is you had it on when you turned off the truck. Next time you turned it back on, did it also turn on the radio or does it require a cold power on every time?

Im not sure I didn’t check 😅 but the connector is a lot smaller so you should have no problem pushing it threw the grommet

Much better range and sound quality. Most off-roaders have switched from CB to GMSR, even the Jeep Jamboree event has officially switched over to GMSR. You can always just get hand held versions if you don't want to hard wire one.

You should consider putting that antenna higher for better reception.

No because the mic is tied in with a switch at the top so it has to be switched on

Smart, didn’t have a fish tape so you used a coat hanger, when in need.

You better secure that rig better than what it is. Less then 10 seconds for an accomplished thief to get into truck, use wire cutters to cut coax and power leads, yank radio out.
