Many thanks for all that you do for the Hunting and Target Archery community! From Arrow builds to Bow Shoot Down comparisons. Many of us have physically and medically aged out of holding 50 pound draw weights! Recurve, Longbow. Pre compound bow days. Today we looking towards affordable, ease of draw, compound bows for hunting and or target use. 40 pound for target and 50 pound hunting. Your experience would be much appreciated on this subject. Respect! Rowan.

Great review and I love the shoot out system you do. I am looking to buy my first bow this week. It will purely be for target shooting. Been researching like crazy going back and forth on general ideas for what to look for and how much i was willing to spend. Decided to go with the mid priced bows and The Torrex was one i had my eye on, along with the PSE Brute NXT and the Bowtech Amplify. Really appreciate the work that you do!

Thanks for the review. I am going to get my daughter's boyfriend a bow soon. Although I think a Mathews would be awesome, I picked up a Torrex XT in a shop and think if it were for me, I'd probably do like you said and buy the XT and later upgrade the accessories to the best. It is truly a sweet bow. "je ne sais quoi" is what comes to mind. Its almost a shame it doesn't cost a couple hundred bucks more as the term "Budget Bow" sounds like "Black Plague" to me. Oddly, the one I picked up was black in color. I think I'll get myself one and name it the black plague!

I know you would have included it if you had one in the shop, but I think the PSE Drive NXT is a better direct comparison to the Hoyt Torrex XT without the Dudley tax. Completely agree that the Embark is a good bow, but not with the extra over other mid-priced bows.

Thanks for your time in doing informational videos like these. I kind of think the Nock On branding adds a little price to those PSE bows. I have a carbon mach 1 with the evolve cam and love it. Not a big fan of the new cam. I picked up a lower "mid range" bow for my wife, PSE Drive. I have to say that for a lower end bow that thing is smooth and pretty fast for the price. I actually picked one up for myself as a backup. What are your thoughts on that bow and maybe do a lower mid range shootout. Thanks again for all your tips and info.

For people considering the zion, I have shot only light bows over the past 15 years (front shoulder problems) and out of the other light bows the zion held the steadiest and had the nicest draw. Of course I am ONLY comparing lighter bows under 3.5 pounds and am aware that heavier bows generally hold steadier for most, have less noise and less vibration but if your after a very light bow, the zion is a fantastic option.

I currently have a 2006 PSE Fire 🔥 Flite 33 that I have used since I got it that same year. So next year I am looking to replace it with something more modern and relegate the old bow to a backup. As soon as I saw that Hoyt came out with the Torrex lineup I was excited. Sadly my local Cabela’s doesn’t carry any of those bows to try out.

Ya thats the one thing I personally don't understand. Hoyt, Mathews and PSE(I believe, never owned one) all made decisions to not sell online or at big box stores... You have to find an actual dealer to try them out. Fortunately for me I shoot a Mathews and have a dealer 12 miles from me that deals in Mathews, Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech and a couple others here in Texas. If you wanna get into the Torrex XT I will tell you its worth it. Great shooting bow. Go to the Hoyt site and find a dealer closest to you.

@@dirtyharry2029 yes Hoyt, Mathews, Prime, Elite, Bowtech don’t sell in big box stores or online (outside of ordering a special one directly from the manufacturer website). PSE and Bear 🐻 sell in stores, well not PSE flagship John Dudley level bows, but mid level and under.

@@joshjones6862 thank you. Of the bows that I tried I choose the Drive. It had the smoothest draw and solid back wall. The ventum was a tied choice but out of budget and the atlas has a spongy back wall for my liking. All comes down to personal feel and personal budget. I was able to buy the drive, Hamski rest and spot-Hogg sight all for under$1300 out the door.

While wearing headphones it sounded like the last bow was the loudest followed by the Zion and then the second bow that you shot. The last arrow of both the Zion and the middle bow both sounded like it came out of the bow sideways. Just my opinion and what my headphones and ear are picking up may not be what other people are hearing.

As a watcher I can tell you that the PSE Wins. Pull is way smoother and the way you drew it was much more natural and easy. When you drew the hoyt you raised your bow really high not good for hunting and you bounced really badly off the back wall making hell for your aim time and your muscles. The pse is the bow for you. Try it again without think of the brand names. Also the hoyt does not have a progressive limb. It bends in one spot.
