Thanks Mike, I appreciate it! Next few videos will be saltwater microfishing. Lots of unique marine fishes I want to catch.
Nice video! Keep it up; its good for your soul! I started micro fishing a couple years ago. It is so relaxing, and really gets you away from life's issues.
Looks fun you did a good job 👍

The name of the reel is slipping my mind currently. I'll check when I get home. There's a few places you can get the hooks but Tenkarabum.com is where I get mine. Lots of japanese-style fishing equipment there. I get the size #30 snelled tanago hooks and the size #22 loose. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

You should try a minnow trap as well
@grandstrandangler8129
2 жыл бұрын
I use minnow traps occasionally in saltwater for mummichogs. But, for my lifelisting I only use hook and line to catch new fish species.
What did you use for the bait?
@grandstrandangler8129
Жыл бұрын
Walmart-bought nightcrawlers. I use small scissors to cut the worms to size. Trying to pinch off small enough pieces just makes you frustrated and messy.
@jimmymac4559
Жыл бұрын
For more durable bait, I cut a very tiny piece off of 1” Berkeley gulp minnows to catch shiners and minnows. The bright color makes it easier to sight fish.

@@jimmymac4559 I have done the same in dire circumstances while ocean fishing. Works well

Hi there! Maybe set your camera up closer to the water so you don’t have to carry fish over dry ground? Also please wet your hands before handling fish! Fun video!!
@grandstrandangler8129

Thank you, but all of the fish in this video are not fragile species and are completely fine even if they fall on dry ground/held with dry hands. Additionally, if we REALLY cared about every single fish, we wouldnt be putting hooks through their heads to begin with :) Have a nice day.

@@grandstrandangler8129 Simple, polite suggestions to reduce your impact, but you can ignore the advice if your pride won’t allow it. Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean you couldn’t be better 🤷🏻. Have a nice day.

How do you identify them? I feel like I wouldn’t know what to look up 😅
@grandstrandangler8129

Freshwater Fishes of South Carolina book. It has an identification key, but after a while you'll remember the distinctions between common species in your area.
First sunfish could have been a spotted sunfish, not sure if they live wherever u are
@grandstrandangler8129
Жыл бұрын
Possibly, but I'm pretty positive it was a Bluegill. Spotted Sunnies don't have those vertical bars, they're more oblong and fatter, and those little black spots were most likely parasites. Never 100% sure with the small ones though. Especially because the spotted's can hybridize. Thanks for watchin!

yup, really small hooks hurt just as much as bigger ones when pulling them out.
what are you fishing with
@grandstrandangler8129
Жыл бұрын
In this video, I am using a #30 snelled tanago hook with super small pieces of nightcrawler worms as bait. It's best to have a small pair of scissors to cut the worms because its difficult to pinch off small enough pieces with your fingers.
hi what bait did u use thx
@grandstrandangler8129
Жыл бұрын
in this video, I used nightcrawlers but make sure to bring a small pair of scissors if you're using these size 30 hooks. Almost impossible to break off a piece of worm small enough to use with only your fingers.

You don’t need bait that small that’s the best part the fish will just go for hook

sometimes, yes. Spending $6 for worms isn't a big deal for me though. It helps alot being able to start a little feeding frenzy before trying to catch them. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

For God's sake, keep a little container of water with you so you don't have to carry that poor fish in the air like that. That's really cool.
@grandstrandangler8129

If you're that worried about the well-being of a fish, it'd be best to not fish at all. Nothing hurting them worse than the hook in their mouth.
