How to Micro Fish | How to catch Minnows using Mini Fishing Pole

Спорт

Micro Fishing, an unorthodox hobby of catching the most species of fish rather than being obsessed with sizes. In this video, I will be showing you how to micro fish, including the right, micro fishing pole, micro fishing hook, micro fishing float, and micro fishing tips to help you catch minnows. I hope you enjoy this micro fishing tutorial!

    You seem like a pretty young guy still. As an old man, well middle aged, I wanted to thank you for putting this video out there. Really great job. I just started microfishing and this is the best tutorial out there. You have me super stoked to start a new hobby, and I have been fishing my entire life. You clearly love fishing but if nobody has told you, you are great at teaching and video production as well. Keep up the good work. Tight lines!

    Never knew micro fishing was a thing until I saw a guy at a local pond using a micro set up fishing rod catching a tiny minnow. Then later using minnow as live fish catching for largemouth bass. He wasnt putting back on bait on the hook. Must be the same hook youre talking about on this vid.

    @alec krug Everyone has their own preferences. To be clear, we don't micro fish because we like catching small fish, necessarily. Most people that take micro fishing on to adulthood do it because they are interested in fish biodiversity and they have a species list. It just so happens that roughly 75% of all freshwater fish species in North America don't grow above 6 inches in length, so people trying to catch new species of fish for their lifelist have to do a lot of micro fishing to have a large species list. Between a 40 pound flathead and a tiny fish I have already caught? Flathead all day. 40lb flathead vs a rare micro fish species that is almost impossible to catch on hook and line and requires extensive research, time in the field, and patience to catch? Micros all day.

We are training adults and older scouts to help and teach younger scouts to fish. Micro fishing opens a whole new world of fishing opportunity for kids and their family. Yours is a KZread video I will recommend for everyone taking the Fishing Merit Badge... to not only expand their fishing options, but it's a great "what do I need to catch fish and how do I use it". Did you really script the video??? Fooled me. I recommend this video for the kids taking the Movie Making merit badge too. :). (I have, and use, all the types of tackle you mention... I recently took an Ichthyology class in college and I have got to say my interest is peaked right now with darters and all of the other micro fish, I envy your catches dude! just got my first micro fishing rod rigged up for this weekend, so excited!! also love your excitement over your catches haha gets me excited watching the video!!

    First of all, I am very happy that you got into micro fishing and ichthyology and wish you the best of luck! As for the photo tank, I found it on eBay. It was a tanago photo tank from japan and I got the last one. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any more for sale. However, there are a few alternatives. For one, you can actually make one using acrylic and caulk which could be a good option. For store-bought options, the ones I know of are from the nature conservatory (which are very expensive but have rulers), tenkarabum's smaller tank, or things like an ant farm, and a glass or acrylic box. Good luck with your micro fishing and Ichthyology, tight lines, and full photo tanks! :)

    They also sell tanagos hooks on amazon. If you are looking for a more local alternative, you can also go to a bass pro shops or some equivalent store that sells fly tying hooks. Get some fly tying hooks in size 20-30 (preferably close to 30). That should be a decent alternative to tanagos

    Can you make a more detaile way to attach tanago hooks, as I couldn't understand how to attach a tanago to an ultralight.

  • @EBspeciesfishing

    @EBspeciesfishing

    4 жыл бұрын

    I am sorry for the confusion. Here is an explanation. There are two ways we can attach a tanago hook to your ultralight 1. The Simple approach: We can simply connect the line on the tanago hook directly to the line on your ultralight without the braid loop I talked about in the video. You can do this with any line connecting knot like a blood knot or double uni knot. However, the disadvantage of this approach is that you have to take the old rig off your ultralight whenever you want to switch to a tanago. The solution to this is... 2. The Loop approach: This is the method I described in this video and what I recommend. It uses the principle of the loop to loop connection, that is used in other parts of fishing. I made a video explaining it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4hh0sOuecXTcag.html If you need more clarification, feel free to ask again and I can give some more examples. I hope this helps and have a great day! :)

    The micro fishing here in Orange County, CA requires Size 24 HOOKS! 22 if your feeling dangerous, and not too anxious to catch, we have Arroyo Chubs, little squirts, compared to most states, "most" are 3 inches and under, you can get those hooks on Ebay, I will never find them in a store, fly fishing is not common here.

    Would a sensitive ice fishing rod work?

  • @EBspeciesfishing

    @EBspeciesfishing

    4 жыл бұрын

    For the larger micros like chubs and panfish, an ice fishing rod could work. However, fishing with tanago hooks wouldn't be a good idea. You really need a long lightweight rod in order to get a tanago hook in front of a tiny fish. However, there is an exception. If you are able to get close to the fish (like snorkeling or swimming) a short rod can be used to catch them. Here's a link to someone I know who is alot more skilled at snorkel fishing than me that makes great content: kzread.info/dron/LiUzqw184OfZ-VzeKYSYJA.html So unless you are able to snorkel fish, I would use a long telescopic rod or long ultralight rod instead. Good question and tight lines! :)

    If you want to get some cheaper stuff and better gear look into uk pole rigs and pre tied hooks the floats are made to show the smallest movements and the hooks get so small you could mistake it for an eyelash. I catch stickleback and minnows between 1-2 inches on my local river using maggots or a bit of unfrozen shrimp i pinched off with my nails so i bet you would have a good time on the real light stuff

  • @EBspeciesfishing

    They don't really have specific names but the one I use can be found by going on amazon, aliexpress, or eBay and searching using keywords like, "carp fishing pole" or "tenkara rod"(this one is best used on amazon and you are looking for the ultra-cheap ones) After a bit of searching you be able to find something that works. After all, the only criteria you need is a lightweight, long rod that is preferably compact which almost all of them are. Good question and tight lines man!

    I will definitely do some carp videos eventually, ecpecially since I do know that there are some 30's in nearby lakes. However, right now I am mostly focused on trying to catch as many new species as I can before winter comes. But once I catch most of the species in my area and when it hits winter more sprot fishing and carp fishing should be coming.

    Sadly no, but if you go ebay or aliexpress and type in something along the lines of "telescopic carp fishing pole" You should get tons of different options. Just make sure you look into the specifications before you buy one so that it is the right size and weight. Hope this helped!
