I have a message for Mickey Thomas. Mickey if you’re listening, you are probably one of the most talented song artists in the whole wide world. You are the king of vocalists. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Keep those concerts coming. I am so sorry that you get a lot of hate from viewers. They probably are Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus fans. Come back to Wisconsin and perform for us. Maybe Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, or Appleton perhaps. We would like to hear you perform again. Keep shining Mickey and we all love you. Greetings from Wisconsin.

I urge those who haven't yet heard the three Starship albums to give it a listen. Sounds as good today as then! Grace Lick said in an interview that she wasn't as found of Starship as her earlier efforts, but I guess with the long carrrier she have had and especially in the 70's this is not strange. 70's was wild and the 80's were smoother!

I love Mickey, Marty and Grace. All are among the greatest rock singers of all time. Think "Fooled Around and Fell in Love", which Mickey soulfully sang for Elvin Bishop; "Volunteers" -- Airplane's 60's anthem -- sung with gusto and feeling by Marty Balin; and Grace Slick's pipes on "Somebody to Love". Marty WAS Jefferson Airplane. It was he who convinced Paul Kantner to join him in a new exploration, with Jorma and Jack added to form a great backbone. Then Grace came and wow!

I'm confused. Mickey said Jefferson Starship lost popularity when Grace re-joined in 1982. I saw the band in 1980 without Grace and a new singer Mickey Thomas in 1980 and the arena was half-empty. About two years later, Grace re-joined on the "Modern Times" tour, and the same arena was packed. Hmmm.

We Built This City by Starship This is obviously a PERFECT POP record, hence why it went to NUMBER ONE! The people who voted this the worst record must be into rap music. STARSHIP made some really enjoyable pop records. "Sara" was an incredible recording. In my book this song is an enjoyable listen and puts me in a good mood!

When Paul Kantner left Jefferson Starship in 1984, he took the last shred of integrity with him. Mickey Thomas just wanted sell as many records as possible, no matter how insipid the songs & production were. What a shame.

@TranzPink007 i think the "problem" is that the band had largely stopped writing their own material and added a pop sheen...so while it sounded clean and crisp, it wasn't the same band...the credibility, in some people's eyes, includes songwriting...in saying that, though, if the lyrics aren't cutting it and you want to stay on the label and make sales, you have to play the "80s" game (or insert whatever decade of top 40 you want)...

The funny thing is, MT still thinks he's in JEFFERSON STARSHIP. The band still includes Kantner, David Freiberg and Donny Baldwin from MT's tenure... but he went rogue years ago and claims to tour as his own "Starship". So much for respecting the legacy!

scot623 NO Scott, Mickeys well aware of where he stands and hes talking about the 80's years...thats why its called Starship featuring MT. Its just a vehicle for him to sing Starship songs NOW, while still honoring the history of how the band came to be Starship!!

The Music City Martian! That's what I got out of it too. If Mickey didn't represent the life cycle of the band (even though changes), he would not sing the song we all do love! So I believe Mickey is doing his best in respecting the quality of the music through the quantity of albums made over the years.

...a story of what happened 'after the fire went out'. Jefferson Starship made it long before Mickey..........Martin Balin and Grace Slick were two of the most wonderful unique sounding singers in the history of Rock. And Frieberg and Kantner gave the band further vocal depth. Miracles, Ride The Tiger, Caroline, Count on Me, Love Too Good, Switchblade and St. Charles. They just sounded unique then, not like Journey, Foriegner and so many American AOR Bands. Yes Mickey could and can sing - very well indeed. He just never seemed to understand that the band was all about 'being different' in both sound and style content.
