Once proportional representation has been established feel free to do that. Until then all you'd achieve is splitting the left of centre vote and letting Truss win the General Election. At the next election we all really need to vote for the person most likely to defeat the sitting Tory in their constituency.

  • @bigmoose1961

@@johnm2012 I fully understand the logic and pragmatism of what you are saying. However, Keir Starmer continues at pace to expel all dissenters from the Labour party and won't even support the unions who are only standing up to achieve fairness for their members who have been screwed for the past decade. I don't want to see the Tories replaced by another right wing government that happens to be called Labour. I am an idealist, but I believe an opposition party should be exactly that, an antidote to the current situation. The chance for real change. If that makes them unelectable, then perhaps the electorate haven't suffered enough yet.

@@bigmoose1961 I used to be an idealist. I'm old enough now to realise that idealism is just a dream. I've now evolved into a pragmatist because all the idealism in the world amounts to nothing if you remain in opposition. I'm not looking for a Labour landslide. I just want a non-Tory government and proportional representation. Once that's achieved I don't really care what happens to the Labour party. It can split in two if it wants to - I'll leave that to the idealists to decide. The point is that on issues that really matter to the country they'll probably agree anyway. Edit: I hope you're listening to James O'Brien's show at the moment.

Well said Mr. Lynch. Since the 1970s power has shifted from workers to shareholders, the obsession with creating shareholder value has given us a rentier economy where if you’re lucky enough to own property and shares you have disposable income to burn without having to worry about wages. We need to start taxing wealth, not income. The UK is unique amongst rich countries in not having an ownership tax, a tax where those who own property in places like Kensington for example pay a much higher tax than someone living in say Blackburn where property is much cheaper. This is a tax that cannot be avoided by the rich who normally find a way around paying it through clever accounting and offshoring.

The argument that paying workers more would increase costs of living is the stupidest thing I've ever heard, even though it probably is true. It's the stupidest argument to say prices may go up if we give workers raises when prices have been going up anyway without pay raises.

Exactly. It's a key part of the interviewers' job to challenge the interviewee, so we get a fuller representation of what the latter has to say. It's not a competition, and to characterise such interviews as if they are is entirely missing the point.

He just has to get past the Neo-Liberal Gate Keepers in the Party and we all saw what they did to Corbyn when he managed to get one on them and be voted in.. Twice, because they didn't like the result and demanded another election to which Corbyn beat them even harder. But Mick Lynch could save the Labour Party, if he wanted to be leader? But the Party will make him out to be the next Adolf Hitler, like they did with Corbyn.

I read a lot of good and positive comments about Mick Lynch with respect to his handling in interviews, i.e. media. He's calm, very knowledgeable and says it how it is. The media is indeed to polite (bar a few) to properly question politicians and I can see why. If youre employed by them and you give, in this case, tories a hard time, you may well face the end of your career. However, Mick is not part of that club and he is so impressive. I hope we all get the chance to support him in some way or another. He does not just speak for the RMT but for the country!!
