Even funnier is actors that play serious characters are always the goofiest in real life.

Maybe he should try stand up comedy instead

In an episode of Seinfeld's Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, Michael said he sometimes looks back at the show and thinks, he should have enjoyed himself more. He thought he was being too serious about it all.

Kramer was the most outlandish and hardest character to have to play on the show. Would take a lot of focus and concentration to play him right.

"We won an Emmy, you know." "Yeah, but I didn't." Newman's reaction kills me!

jerry's such a bad actor...but somehow it didn't ruin the show. Fascinating..

He's probably a perfectionist and doesnt like to constantly do scenes.

+Kool Breeze Some of those shoots go really late, and at that point, people just want to get it done so they can go home and sleep. It's hard to tell without context if that is just the way he is or if these things happened after a very long and annoying day.

It's not a laugh track added in post-produciton, it's a live studio audience, so they'll laugh at whatever they find funny (bloopers, actual jokes, etc). That's part of why he would get annoyed actually, he was afraid that if they ran through a joke too many times, the audience wouldn't react as well if they only got in right on like the 9th try.

Kramer easily had the toughest role on the show. He needed to stay focused. Plus he helped the others stay focused. I bet the director of the show appreciated his focus and work ethic.

Am I the only one that thinks he acted that way to stay in character?

I'll bet if Michael Richards was honest, he'd tell you that the funniest things he did never made it into the episode because the other cast members ruined the take by cracking up. Knowing that is why he got pissed at them.

I worked Key Grip on 'Fridays TV Show' & 'Seinfeld' and saw all Michael Richards' work. He embodies those 'crazy' Kramer-like tendencies in all of his roles. He actually used to press his head against walls & recite lines between scenes to get into character. You are merely seeing how he has to try harder than the other not to -'lose it'- b/c his role requires such abnormal behavior. When he DID crack up, it would take him the longest to get back into his zone. His co-stars all loved him.

Just to understand Richards and his annoyance here a bit better, this reminds me of something Laurence Olivier said about filming "The Prince and the Showgirl' with Marilyn Monroe. In so many words, he said that he would carefully prepare for a scene and nail it the first time, but Monroe always messed up. By the time she got it right on the third or fourth take, he had lost his edge and perhaps a bit of his annoyance showed through in his performance. Notice how Richards always has the most intricate bits - twirling the pipe, crashing through doors, stuff like that. The others just have to stand there and play reactive characters. In terms of effort, his part was many times more difficult. Also, notice how some of his bits kind of deteriorate with each take or at least change. No wonder he got pissed off that some of his carefully planned bits were ruined, and it was probably immensely difficult to get back all that preparation for a second (or more) take..

8:23 Amazing how he pulled that off without choking. That looked dangerous, to be honest.

I think what was happening is that Richards is just so fucking hilarious that no one could play their part with him without cracking up. That's gotta get frustrating after a while because it means that even if he nailed his part, they can't use it because somebody laughed. But I never saw any anger or anything of the sort in this. A tiny bit of frustration is all.

OffhandDelivery I'm surprised to see that it was Elaine/JLD that broke character and laughed the most in all of these bloopers. Watching the show Jerry would constantly break character and smile or laugh while delivering lines, it was kind of like a running gag. I assumed that he broke character so often that they continued when it wasn't a scene ender.

He doesn't seem angry really in any of the clips, but if anything I think it's because he has a different style than the others, who are just straight acting for the most part. A lot of the sounds and gestures he makes that made the show so hilarious are improv and can't be reproduced easily. George & Elaine also have a lot of improv aspects to their acting but his has the most

I was at the taping of "The Barber" and "The Conversion" episodes back in 1993, and got to see some of Richards meticulous perfectionism firsthand. It was clear that he and the rest of the cast were extremely well-prepared, but that he was not fond of mistakes. But, the mistakes that happened never affected the cohesiveness of the ensemble. Watching Richards gear up his energy and rehearse lines silently to himself before a scene while standing off-set was something I'll never forget.

How could you not love when Elaine laughs? She laughs with her whole body,and it makes her hot.

+stay whys? The show is not about her being "hot." It's not about her at all. And her laughing while the cast and crew are attempting to film, is extremely unprofessional and self-centered.

the brilliance of michael's comedy is in the spontaneity. it's madly alive, in the moment. he understands that once he does something brilliantly funny, it'll never be quite so brilliant if he has to repeat it.

'please, you don't know how hard it is for me' is the perfect blooper to open on. It's obvious how much more effort he has to put in, his character is so far removed from reality, an almost pantomime-esque level of over the top comedy. I think it's perfectly reasonable for him to act this way. I dread to think how many hilarious moments may have been missed out on if he couldn't have finished a take.

It looks as though he's just trying to hold a straight face as best as he can each time so he doesn't get into the habit of laughing.

Michael Richards made this show. He took it very seriously, he perfected Kramer.He never repeated a great bit. He was unique, fantastic actor and his physical comedy is brilliant. Yes Larry David and Jerry "Made" the show, but Larry's idea for Kramer was not Michael's. Michael literally created this character.

His delivery is freakin hilarious, & it has to be frustrating to be so good, that the professionals can't even avoid laughing. It has to be irritating, because how many good takes can a person do? It makes complete sense.

8:16 - No way in HELL is anyone keeping a straight face in this scenario.

He was joking around during it too, you could see him smirking but he wanted to stay in character. I wonder what made him tick, he doesn't seem like a bad guy.

Cosmo Kramer may be the funniest character in the history of television. Thank you Mr. Richards, you are a legend.

Such a professional. Right up to the point where he completely shit the bed and destroyed his career.

I hate how people are saying Richards is a dick as if acting out the same scenes again and again doesn't get tiring. Kramer is the most charismatic character on the show and playing the part must take a lot of focus and dedication. To nail your lines and have someone else ruin the take would drive you crazy too. I think he handled his frustration pretty well, all things considered.

For that much money, most people would learn to just suck it up... more like Richards is a whining bitch who has zero self-control. I'm an African-American and I wonder: Is it that he might be somewhat racist, or is it that he just takes his craft extremely seriously and in a fit of anger, went to the easiest thing to get back at the attendees in question? I mean, it's not unheard of to hear people say something that they know for sure will get to a person; like if I called a female a bitch or a slut, just for the emotional win....does that make sense to anyone?

Weeneen Ala'hadouanan We really don't, though. The stereotypes are there, but they come from a lack of understanding on the cultures in question. I knew store owner from India, who whenever I gave him my money, he never put my change in my hand. That shit made me want to punch his face. But after I learned that there's a caste system in parts (if not all) of India, I was able to understand why he did it. There never seemed to be any malice in how he did it, he just did it instinctively, on account of how he was brought up in his country.

So is this guy like the Christian Bale of sitcoms ?

Mark T The Writers work all week, the Actors I think reherse the lines at a table real quick which is probably a couple hours, then they shoot the show. I knew a Writer for this one sit com & he told me a goo amount of what they did was improvised & they'd write the script inbetween shows, & barely have it somewhat complete a day before shooting if that. They'd improvise lots of lines, try different stuff live in front of a studio audience. But Regardless, what the point of this video is. In the bloopers, everyone else is enjoying themselves.. having fun. And Kramer is the most serious of them all. Almost like the only times he does laugh or smile is because he thinks people expect him to laugh & smile, cause they're all doing it.. I think he's just a type A dude, and everyone else is like laid back, Type B, having fun

GodlyFamilyMan Well, there is one show with a group of actors and then there are others. I know that the actors, writers and producers of Seinfeld carefully rehearsed each episode during the week before taping. Which is why they were so successful. I think Kramer was key to the success of this show. But the real greatness was all the lesser regulars like Newman and all the guest stars. :)

Mark T Yeah and I think the original comment was something about Kramer working long hours so of course he'd get irritated when people laugh. Thinking that way, then Jerry, George & Elaine should be just as irritated if not more cause they have way more lines & camera time.. Of the 4, Kramer's in it the least. I honestly think he's more of a "planned" kinda guy, that's how Type A people are. Or maybe even a subset of Type A people "Must do things as planned" dunno if you've ever been around people like that. But it really throws everything off for them when their day isn't exactly how they pictured it, or each step according to their "plans" etc.. They get that frustrated look on their face.. Almost like they don't "get it" like they're so different from everyone else who's capable of "improvising" & just "rolling with it" like oops you messed up your line, that's funny.. lets laugh about it.. More like "You messed up your line! That's not part of the plan! Whats the matter with you?" type of thing.. I dunno dude, I'm a type B person & have been around some Type A, the "need to be planned" type A

Also, how adorable are Michael and Julia together in the hallway scene near the end? It's so sweet when he is waiting for her to say her line and she looks up and just spontaneously hugs him. A great moment.

3:10 - I LVOE how Wayne Knight kraks up in the background at Elaine's comment

by watching this he seems to get more pissed when Julia would laugh then anyone else.

In her early days particularly, Julia found it hard to recover after a laughing fit. They often had to reschedule whole shooting days. It seems from this footage that Richards was just over that. Having to spend an extra day shooting a scene. I can understand why that would be frustrating.

What I can say from watching this, is that Michael Richards is a very good and intuitive actor.

"You know, I'm eating a lot of this shit." Awesome.

In a comedy act, it takes at least someone who has a face of stone to keep the whole cast in tact. He's not humourless, he's a pro :D

I dunno, I think people are taking his reactions a bit too seriously. To me it just seemed like he had a dry sense of humor except for maybe one or two scenes where he actually seemed to be genuinely annoyed. Not once did it seem to me like he was actually being an asshole.

The thing I see with MR is the guy is so focused on what he is doing that when it goes wrong he then has to try and find that funny line again and I can totally get how it's frustrating for him having to do it several times.It doesn't make him a dick it just makes him really committed and focused.I can only imagine how hard it was to keep Kramer hilarious week after week

How much you wanna bet that if this post had been titled something besides "Michael Richards (Kramer) Doesn't Like When his Co-Stars Mess Up", we would have experienced it in a different way? We'd have probably just focused on each of the actors in each of the bloopers without having pre-judged Richards as "not liking it". When I watch this post I just see the guys interacting like so many other tight casts of whom bloopers have been shown. They continue to clown in roles they develop as cast members that get them through the production. We, most of the public anyway, have decided that Richards is a racist so it's easy to see him as some mean spirited guy in every aspect of his life. God help us all if we are never changed by our own mistakes, and God help us all if we never forgive others for theirs, because we will certainly all be outcasts and not worthy of seeing the good that is in each of us. Richards was a fantastic comedian in a very funny TV program, who, like us all, has some feelings he is not likely proud of. He made a very bad mistake, and yes, his comments here incredibly hateful and racist. When we begin to see each other in all our beautiful imperfection we can maybe have a world where people are no longer racists, or bullies, or hate mongers. But we have to start by seeing our own shortcomings first. You can't see your own frailties and faults then the other guy's are going to look pretty bad. Just sayin

when i was a kid i was completely in love with Elaine, seeing these bloopers and her lovable laugh just brought all that back for me..

Actually Michael Richards looks like a real fun guy to work with. He's really serious about comedy and I love that intensity. You really have to be an artist to have that kind of intensity on stage. Everyone on set knows he gets that way and love him for it. People are over speculating the man. Love you Michael! You will always be one of the great comedians!

The Kramer character was the best. As Elaine called him, "a hipster doofus".

To be fair, most of the outtakes probably happened in his scenes, because he had the the slapstickiest and most physical gags of all the characters. Which means he likely did more takes than anyone else on the cast. I can see why he might get a little exasperated from time to time.

He really did take the job seriously. In the (mall) parking garage episode, when he loads his purchase into the trunk of the car, he hit his lip on the trunk and actually started bleeding. He made it a part of the scene and never broke character.

klmrxz Nah, I've seen the bloopers reels of all kinds of classic shows filled with professionals and they didn't act like dicks when other people laughed.

Michael's clearly having the time of his life as well and great entertainment for us Seinfeld fans. Great vid.

you can see Michael getting annoyed sometimes, Julia laughs a little too much and she's an actress.

Richards often rehearsed his own bits alone,he wanted that spontaneity when it was time to roll, quite often the cast did not know exactly what he was going to do visually. A mess up meant that spontaneity was lost, but with clever editing a lot of it got through to the finish line and that's what made the show great.Maybe Richards took it all too seriously forgetting that it was the audience that had to be pleased more than himself with his performance. He need not have worried, he's great.

I'm sure Michael Richards is aware of editing, there is no doubting the eccentricity of comic geniuses and Richards is no exception. He is wound tightly, but his role was very demanding and required exceptional timing. It's hard not be working with Richards and his character and not break up once in a while, you can see Richards is a perfectionist and Seinfeld himself is very laid back.They get along together very well and it was obvious in their work that the combo was a great working team.

I've read somewhere that it was really hard for him to get in the Kramer character and when everyone starts laughing its hard for him to stay in character. He would often stand backstage in a corner saying his lines and doing his ticks and whatnot. He's a pro.

Jason Walsh Because he doesn't like it. He says in behind the scenes stuff that he "would get mad, you know? I just felt it was unprofessional" and things like that. Even if sometimes he maintains a good nature, it still bothers him because he thinks it might hurt the show, not to mention the studio audience might not laugh if they have to do the same joke like 8 times. Its so sexy to know that Julia does not take her job too seriously and can enjoy a laugh.

What are you people watching? In most of these takes, although there may be some frustration, MR is smirking or laughing as well. At the same time, he is trying to leaven the situation and bring things back to the task at hand so they can get the shots they need. They are creating a product after all, but it is not a gizmo, the product is their performance. When you think he is "angry" in the hospital scene, he is merely trying to stay in character and not break himself so they can hopefully continue and get the shot. They are all trying to do a job, but with acting, especially comedic acting, one pitfall is breaking character and falling victim to the humor at play. Any of the physical aspects do not appear violent and are more touches to try to focus the person back into character, which takes concentration and effort. They are all working very hard, and MR's other transgressions aside, I don't see anything is this reel that deserves the negative reaction many of you are providing. Watch other bloopers, it is common and all actors have their methods of dealing with them.

Looks like Micheal was so good at playing Kramer they couldnt help but to laugh when they looked at him during the scene.

yeah, this is exactly what i was going to say. richards is grounding the others, that's all. he doesn't Hate Having Fun or anything -- he's just the designated driver!

He only seemed slightly annoyed in a few of these... really, he's having just as much fun as they are, and it's quite apparent. Part of his comic brilliance is his ability to keep his laughter in check, but even when they mess up he continues to humor them.

i don't see any problem here. this video helps me to realize just what a great performer he is!

That scene at 8:53 when Richards was cramming his face, all I could think of is, "He's going to choke".

Michael Richards was better than anyone on Seinfeld.

Yeah, I understand. I watched an interview with "Kramer" about it, I understand it better now. I just thought it was foolish, but he does admit that hes such a "physical" actor, that it can be tough to duplicate a scene once it needs re-done

I find it interesting that the episode where they were choosing actors to play themselves on the show within the show "Jerry" hired an actor to play Kramer's character that was seriously intense with a chip on his shoulder. They nailed Michael Richards actually personality to a tee according to these outakes.

This wasn't that bad at all. Dudes a perfectionist. Sure he could lighten up a bit at times here but it really wasn't that bad at all.

His character is a very energetic one. I can imagine him having to do the things he does in the show several times over to be frustrating. One small example is in here, when he's stuffing the food in his mouth and has to redo it because of Jerry's laughing. He seems to handle it pretty well, but the frustration is obvious.

Could you imagine having to look at Kramer (Michael Richards) and deliver lines without laughing? That would be awful hard. His facial expressions would crack me up every time. Just looking at him makes you laugh.

He seems a little more serious acting than I thought he would, I assumed he would always be cracking up.

What would Kramer say to Michael Richards if they ever met face to face? (Not the guy that Kramer is based on...I mean the character as written by Larry David and portrayed on this show) I think Michael would get really annoyed with him, and Kramer would think he was too serious

appreciate your opinion, I agree. But i also love when I can see them naturally in action, it just makes it real somehow :)
