February 8, 1997 - Dallas Mavericks guard Michael Finley tried to pull out all the stops in his attempt to overtake the teen-aged Kobe Bryant in the final round of the 1997 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Finley first missed a cartwheel/dunk combo then was unable to complete his double dunk attempt during his final go around. He finished third.

smithfan22 Sura had no business being in a dunk contest BUT yes he had hops. Very athletic. He was insane at FSU coming baseline off of the wing dunking. Google Bob Sura sick dunk and he will wow you.
RIP Kobe
Are people only mad at Kobe because of the fist pump? I’m not a Kobe fan and In fact I love Michael Finley since I’m a badger fan, but Kobe just wanted to win.. I didn’t see him do anything douchey

omg this is so lame..i can do better dunks....
Never liked Kobe ever again after watching that fist pump LIVE in 1997... I wasn't bias though, I gave him a chance to redeem himself and see if he could mature, but then I saw him frustrate Phil Jackson and the entire coaching staff for the next 10 years by not following the plays properly. Yeah, they won three championships from 1997- 2007 (10 seasons) but they would have been even better if Kobe could just follow guidelines from staff, and also if he had gone to college. He finally matured a little when they went to the finals 3 times, winning two ('08-'10), but only a LITTLE, and he needed one of the best Centers and one of the best Power Forward's at that time to win. With them gone, he and his team were bottom of the bucket because Kobe played the way HE wanted to play, not the way the coaching staff advised him.
