He wasn't. He got one year probation with a 90 day suspended sentence. Nothing, for a brutal cop with a long history of abusing citizens, being fired from multiple departments, being sued and having his employers pay out lawsuits totaling over half a million dollars. As far as I can determine he is still a cop when he's clearly in the wrong profession. He's nothing but a thug with a badge. What's scary is the support he gets from the Ohio FOP and other cops. For the record I support all GOOD cops.

Man, how "safe" would you feel as a juror handing out that verdict while a room loaded with cops were staring at you.

I'm not so sure they looked "shook". Let's hope they don't leave the courtroom "fuming" and very ready and prepared to take it out on the next victim ......which is a very REAL possibility. A simple proceeding to register the jury's decision. I know NOTHING of this incident. The judge was about as "neutral" about everything as anyone could be. My observation of the courtroom is what appears to be one empty side, for the "victim" and the cop's side with a bunch of "on-duty" cops as well as "off-duty". Yes, all being very well-mannered, but they ALL have a very clear appearance of a bunch of bullies. They ALL "look down their noses .....heads high". That registers as a personality trait of defiance and arrogance. You don't teach people their character traits. This how they are born. They will be the first ones to deny they are like that ....but there is NOTHING they can do to change themselves. They love being confronted with a "situation" that requires police. It gives them an opportunity to practice their purpose of why we need police in the first place. A bit of a conundrum ..........particularly when they cannot or don't know how to control themselves. The notation made is "Cell phone video showed the officer repeatedly punching Richard Hubbard ....". As much as I hate cell phones .........just imagine what would have happened specific to the jury decision, without this "evidence" .......or ..... what might have happened even with this cop knowing full well about cell phones. Was this cop completely out of control? .

I would still bet that the only thing that is going through their minds is that they need to do a better job of watching out for cameras. I still doubt that this will change how they act. They saw the video and still showed up think and hoping that the jury would look the other way because “Hey, we’re the good guys and it’s really dangerous out here.” As if the public should just give them permission to do whatever they want no matter the collateral damage done and innocent lives ruined. Their looks are just so telling of how deep the rot is in this occupation.

It’s good to see so many other officers in the courtroom. Hopefully they have learned they can’t get away with just anything as they have gotten use to in the past. Also, the fact they are there shows they are aware this is not ok and can’t use the excuse of “not knowing” any longer.

I really liked the way this judge treated the jury and commended them for their service.

It's about time these fools are being held accountable for their actions.

Sadly you are more likely to be stuck by lightning than a LEO ever really facing accountability for their action, inaction, criminal act, criminal behavior, illegal acts, violation of state or federal law and or violation of State and or Federal Constitutional Rights....then if they are, in some case they are granted "SWEETHEART" deals where they do not have to register, report to prison, verdict is set aside, probation, ...... Where as a citizen not connected or wealthy or "knowing where the bodies are buried" would not be given such a deal. Personally, this officer should have been hit with addition charges and I hope the DOJ also prosecutors and gets a conviction. This officer should get 8yrs in state prison, gen pop and 8yrs in federal prison and a total of 8yrs probation; as well as loss of pension, loss of ability to ever be in any position of LEO or Security, Loss Prevention, Personal Protection, no employment with city, county, state or contractor with contracts with said.....

What I must disagree with is they are not being "held accountable" by any stretch of anyone's imagination. His sentence was and is a cruel joke to those who are outside of the system and insulting to people who are intelligent. This is a war for our rights. This is a war for our country. Sadly though, only a small percentage of them do. Without a doubt more then 75%of cops are corrupt in one way or another, at the very least, of having fragile egos and locking up innocent citizens for the crime of hurting their egos. All of them should be held accountable, but most aren't

This is the same cop that was fired, charged, had the charges dismissed, rehired, recharged and now convicted over this incident. This was an uphill battle from the onset. He should have never been on the streets of Euclid in the first place, after being forced to resign for LYING to fellow officers in mentor, where his father had been chief. I have no doubt his father got the Euclid chief to hire the lying rat, where he's had other excessive force complaints, unprofessional behavior complaints and crashed two vehicles! Was he tested for drugs after beating someone he stopped for an expired license, even though he couldn't know who was driving the vehicle, unless he had prior contact, then pulling him from the vehicle to beat the crap out of him? Did I hear it right that he said afterwards that "that was too much fun"? Then he testified the VICTIM broke his hand, because the cop twisted his hand in his shirt to take him down and sprained his pinky? First, that's not a broken hand. Second, he's the one who initiated it all. The VICTIM looked to be only trying to protect himself from the blows he was receiving, and the dirty cops lawyer kept pointing out things the victim supposedly did on the video, that he didn't do. And she said, even with the cop sitting on his stomach and punching him in the face, the cop lifted up a bit, and he should have taken that chance to roll over, that it was plenty of space "for anyone to turn on their stomach!". All while being punched, I'm sorry, "pain complianced" into turning on his stomach!!??? She also called both the girlfriend and girl who took the video, a liar. You know who's a proven liar, the cop on trial! He was going to be FIRED FOR LYING IN MENTOR, OH, where his father had been chief. Only five months after RESIGNING, BEFORE BEING FIRED, the Euclid police chief hired him, knowing he was a list! No doubt his father called in a favor! Because of that and for not disciplining him more than a letter of reprimand for hitting a driver with his gun, after STOPPING HIM FOR A SUSPENDED LICENSE, the same reason he stopped this driver! How did he know who was driving? Did he have a grudge against "some drivers" he may have previously stopped, and did retaliation stops just to arrest them, or find a reason, in his mind, to beat them up or hit them with his gun? He should have NEVER been on the streets of Euclid. One thing we always hear is once a cop lies, there is no coming back from that, UNLESS THEY'RE LYING TO THE PUBLIC, THEN THAT IS APPLAUDED! This case seems early similar to the "suspended license stop he did where he cold cocked a driver who he stopped solely for a suspended license. The Euclid police chief who hired him, should lose his pension, for putting this dangerous psychopath on the streets and never giving him any punishment for the multiple reports of misconduct, other than a letter in his file. I feel that emboldened this criminal cop. The prosecutor mentioned there are two recordings where, after the severe beating, he said, "that was too much fun!". Does that sound like an officer who was in fear, or one looking for an opportunity to brag about kicking the crap out of a driver, who knew not to fight back, so he just tried to deflect the blows. Or grab his leg to stop him from kicking him! The criminal cop testified that he felt threatened when he grabbed his leg, because he had an ankle holster on, and that the Euclid PD policy allows officers to wear one. When asked which leg he wears his on, he thought for a second, to think about what leg the driver grabbed, and said, "I believe it's my right". Why wouldn't he immediately say, my right leg, if he wasn't lying about wearing an ankle holster, or trying to figure out what leg he grabbed, before answering? For him to brag about beating a defenseless man, as if it was a fair fight, shows the level of narcissism in this officer! Even when he approached the stand to testify, he gave a little wave with his left hand, and a smile and a wink, to try to look like a charming, unassuming guy. He just looked like he was trying to influence the jury to me, especially when he kept looking at the jury to answer every question! Remind you of anyone....like amber heard? His lawyer entered blood work proving the driver smoked pot. Did they provide a drug test on the criminal cop, who either is on drugs, or has a very big issue with anger and is looking to beat a citizen up, rather than to protect and serve them?

I have a great deal of respect for the judge and how he handled this case and the jury. The jury should go home with a clear conscience and know they did a good job. It was good to see the cops in the courtroom and hope they understand that citizens have rights and can not be abused without justification.

His family and officer looked more worried than the guilty culprit .

Judge: "Micheal Amoitt you are now hereby remanded to the custody of San Quentin Federal Penitentiary and to be watched under close supervision for a term of life. May God have mercy on you." 👏👏

Keep in mind that the event he is being found guilt of happened 5 years ago. Just think of how many cases of events that happened well after, have already gone to trial and have concluded since then. That's a long time for them to finally decide to do something about this.

Scary part is... we ALL know at least one cop exactly like him. If you are a cop... you know many. And may be exactly like him yourself.

I didn’t quite understand the two assault charges and how he was guilty of one assault but not the other.

Look at the utter disbelief and shock on the faces of all those uniformed clowns/goons. They just can't believe one of them was actually held to account in a court room.

Hope to see a lot more of this in the coming years. It's high time we start holding officers criminally liable for breaking the law.

@@deletebilderberg Some guy did a video probably from Columbus city... about training the "Jiu-jitsu",and the trainer said that all cops should know Jiu-jitsu, to restrain the "confused" or misbehaved suspect......because he thinks the main problem is that every department is trained differently in all US states. None is trained the same way. He thinks if the beginner Cop, is doing the job and is not prepared for some type of people, the cops freak out, and first what they do is start shooting, or using a taser. because they have no ability to use "jiu-jitsu" movements etc Now I think maybe, therefore, they created tasers maybe its easier and cheaper than, put money and time in the training.

I saw full unedited video. it looked like the suspect stood up and faced him then resisted. the cop wanted to slam him but ended up slamming himself. he got mad then lost control. it seems a minor traffic stop can made ya a lot of money if you can play the racecard.

Videos just show facts. They are not Blue, Black, Dem, or Republican. He was running towards me, He lunged at me, he was reaching for my weapon, I feared for my life. etc. I have never seen this on any video but it sure used to be in a lot of police reports before there was video everwhere.

@@rippingred5265 I am sorry to tell you but he is not in jail. He is appealing the decision. They are hoping to have the jury finding overturned on a technicality, but not because he was wrongly convicted. This appeal could go on for years and all the while he is still employed with Euclid. The F.O.P. needs this conviction over turned because it establishes a precedence making it easier to cite this case in future prosecutions of Officers. Especially since he was convicted of violating the victims civil rights, it does away with his Qualified Immunity should the victim attempt to pursue further Fed. Litigation. The FOP fears that more that anything if they loose their Qualified Immunity, they are not shielded against personal suits.

He DID get away with it, at sentencing. $1,000 fine and probation!

So I am thinking all the officers in the court room are there to stand in support of officer Amiott that was just found guilty of assault and civil right violation. So to me this looks like they are backing there bad apple. Think about that for a minute.

In kingsport, Tenn a local cop went to a large plant and drew a gun on a man getting off duty and communicated a threat. The officer had a wife that was a deputy in Gate city. Va. There had been words exchanged between the female deputy and the plant employee. The city manager fired the officer. On that Tuesday night at board of mayor and alderman the FOP and fire fighters union packed the meeting in their union shirts demanding the city manager ( that had been employed for about 6 months be fired) I got involved because of the way the unions was used to intimidate everyone. My self and an Alderman voiced our displeasure of the treatment of the city manager. They voiced to the Alderman ( that was also a local attorney) that he could either go along with them or he would no longer hold his position. The alderman told the union president if they thought he was going to go along with what they were doing they could have his job. Two weeks later city manager was fired ( he recieved a position in the Shannodore valley much larger population than Kingsport, Tenn. The officer that drew a gun on the citizen went to work for our county dirty sheriff. We had gotten a new honest police chief after many years of a dirty chief. The new chief had been assistant chief ( a good guy)under the dirty chief kesley.. I have been very vocal about dirty police and city business. I have worked with the police years earlier. People they have gone wild.

There are no good cops any more, think about it, If there were, they would have these guys like this under arrest for violating peoples rights, far before it comes to this level . Remember they Swore an Oath to Up Hold The Law, and to Defend The Constitution. The fact that they are not arresting these, pond scum for criminal actions, and then turning a blind eye, when they get caught, proves that they are no good too !

Harley, u pose a damn good point. In most cases of OBVIOUS police misconduct, the other officers back the offending officer. I mean, i always see people say there are some good officers out there. But, damn, how can u be GOOD but side with EVIL????? How can u call urself a "Good Cop" if ur backing the "Bad Cops" illegal behavior???? It makes no sense.

The biggest obstruction against police accountability is the "qualified immunity" granted by the US Supreme Court in Harlow v. Fitzgerald, 457 U.S. 800 (1982) -- which wasn't even a police case. It will never be fixed with the current make-up of SCOTUS, and if the Republicans take the House or Senate, it will never be fixed at all, because the "democracy" part of America will be over.

Everyone please take notice to all the cops who supported this officer in the courtroom. Should raise red flags in the community. Doesn’t give me faith that there are more good cops who will stop back cops actions.

Yes, there was something unnerving seeing that side of the courtroom with the many "comrades". A simple proceeding to register the jury's decision. I know NOTHING of this incident. The judge was about as "neutral" about everything as anyone could be. My observation of the courtroom is what appears to be one empty side, for the "victim" and the cop's side with a bunch of "on-duty" cops as well as "off-duty". Yes, all being very well-mannered, but they ALL have a very clear appearance of a bunch of bullies. They ALL "look down their noses .....heads high". That registers as a personality trait of defiance and arrogance. You don't teach people their character traits. This how they are born. They will be the first ones to deny they are like that ....but there is NOTHING they can do to change themselves. They love being confronted with a "situation" that requires police. It gives them an opportunity to practice their purpose of why we need police in the first place. A bit of a conundrum ..........particularly when they cannot or don't know how to control themselves. The notation made is "Cell phone video showed the officer repeatedly punching Richard Hubbard ....". As much as I hate cell phones .........just imagine what would have happened specific to the jury decision, without this "evidence" .......or ..... what might have happened even with this cop knowing full well about cell phones. Was this cop completely out of control? .

How does it feel to be found guilty of your crime to humanity ?

What I love about this verdict is he knew he was abusing his badge even when it was over, he was sitting around bragging to the younger cops how he abused that person. Felt like a big shot. Now you are going to prison you ruin your police career you lost your pension & in due time you will lose your wife, home, bank account & self-respect. The inmates are waiting they watch TV Too!!!

nice if that happened but you are reading way to much into the verdict he will probably get no jail time and be given the option to resign ,keep all his entitlements and probably be re -hired in another county in due time. the only good thing that came out of this is that the public and people on the jury are starting to find out how their cops are treating citizens and becoming no better than Nazi jackboots a citizens camera exposed them and that is why they do not what any one filming them we need to see a lot more of this, but it is a start.

A definite attempt at it, but it backfired, and their collective pensive and crestfallen looks after the verdict was pronounced was beautiful to behold. Suddenly they learned that they are also supposed to OBEY the laws they enforce too. These are baby steps, but they are a good sign that the end of Qualified Immunity is well and truly under way.

Violating civil rights and assault are misdemeanors?

It is that quiet when the jury walks in.

Another dirty cop caught! However, it sounds like he is only found guilty of misdemeanors...why not felonies? Shouldn't police, who are given a higher level of trust and authority, be held to a stricter law. He should end up with felonies.

Besides the taxpayers we're on the hook for the 450k the city paid the man who was beaten. So tell me again how was he punished? Would a regular citizen get to do what he did and receive the same punishment?

When the other officer tapped him on the shoulder to say hey that's enough this officer yells out he is going for a gun setting the stage to shoot the Subject and murder him . There is little doubt in my mind if it would have been dark and nobody filming him he would have shot him and got away with it

Yes, I agree. That was the original reason the cop stopped him in the first place. He thought it was "suspicious". I'm surprised the prosecutor did not bring it up in closing arguments. I'm not a lawyer or student of the law but to me that was an obvious mistake to admit.

Noticed the other cops in court fretting thinking that could of been me.

I love a story where everyone wins. We the viewers, the victim, the law, the lawyers, society, Michael getting a valuable life lesson... Even the inmates getting a new fresh tight piece of booty. This was victory.

Prosecutor stood alone and defeated a behemoth, in his ill fitting suit and dorky glasses. Well done!

Justice. I hope the judge gives him whatever the max sentence is. Police should be held to a higher standard of accountability.

Instead, they are held to a lower standard. And since average Americans find out that some of them are dirty Cops, they get mad, because they still believe they deserve honor/praise. I don’t get extra praise just for doing my job, that’s why they pay me every two weeks. If we call them, they feel they should be able to beat and kill at will, even when they aren’t in danger. And if the the public ask questions, how dare we question their judgment. When they’re caught red-handed, is there one honest enough to say, “I apologize for my behavior.” Shake up the entire Dept by being HONEST, be different, be honorable!

Justice? I remember being a juvenile in high school and being charged with two assault charges for fighting. Just for defending myself from an attacker. We both were charged. My ignorant self plead guilty. There’s no justice in a courtroom across the US.

Amagine if cops that violate your constitutional right are held accountable. All cops would treat ppl better with respect.

When is the sentencing court date?

All his cop friends sitting in gallery showing their support. "Wow! You mean we could loose qualified immunity and be convicted, too?"

The scary thing is those cops watching the verdict are going out on the beat later and may well take their anger out on unsuspecting citizens!

I was an officer for 12 years and the a probation officer for 8 and they teach them to yell stop resisting while beating you half to death. They call that training the witnesses.

so he has 2 mis charges, he may or may not see the inside of a cell for. I don't think this is really justice at all. It never really amazes me that some bad cops can continue doing things that would land average people behind bars for a very long time.

also if you watched the hearing he kept testifying that he smelled narcotics in the victims car. Any good lawyer would have been all over that, because it was a tactic to make the victim look as though he was a drug addict, and deserved to be beaten, and bullied, and Marijuana, has never been a narcotic drug . It is an intoxicant, but no-doze is too, and the lawyers just kept on letting him say it ,over and over, as if the victim was a criminal, and deserved it.Shame on the whole effing mess !!

This cop lied on a police report on his 1st cop job (he uncle had been a police chief for that area).. pulls over dealer car for no front plate then told dealers don't need front plate so he changed his reason for pulling over. Gets fired under the cloud of resigning. When he was hired at the Euclid job they knew the reason he left his old Jon. Now the city paid $450k and he has a record. Yet he did what he was trained to do - he's a bully.

May he stay in jail as long as possible.

Also I was very impressed with the questions from the jury. I didn't know juries were allowed to ask questions but they were really good ones & showed that the jury was THINKING & not just believing everything the cops tells them anymore. That is a big takeaway....juries are not the same anymore people!

I served on 2 juries in the late 60s & early 70s in Illinois. On one a juror asked the prosecutor a question as the prosecutor was showing a piece of evidence. The judge said that wasn’t permitted.

Justice prevailed! Citizens are no longer putting up with lawless tyrannical and brutal behavior from ignorant persons who wear a badge. This cop and any like him should be sued for all they got after the personal trauma that they caused!

What justice? He still has a job, the recommended sentence is less than a year which means he'll likely get probation and not have pay a fine. The city settled with the victim. That money didn't come out of his pocket. The FOP and chief have given him their full support. Justice would have been putting him in prison for several years. Justice would have been revoking his ability to be in law enforcement. Hell if anyone in the private sector cost their company 450k they would have to find new employment. When a cop does it it they get to remain as part of the gang.

The worst thing he did was to testify. He acted smug, arrogant, and condescending.

The cops acting sorrowful for the verdit are just as scary considering it was an extremely light charge for the unjustified acts of violence committed on the Member of the Public. Many Officers are at six figure incomes thanks to We the People but we're very much done seeing the public trust destroyed by those we work hard to employ. The bad ones make it harder for the good ones to stay safe. If we have to abolish the power of the public servants unions to protect them and ourselves we'll head that way next.

Get rid of QI and indemnification. What good is getting past QI so you can sue them if the city pays all of the damages and legal fees if the jury finds the cop guilty. People think they will bankrupt the cop and take his pension. Nope. If they get to keep their job, their pockets will be untouched.
