Miami Hurricanes Football (2000) - "The Drive For Five"

Музыка

A recap of the Miami Hurricanes' 11-1 season in 2000-the Canes overcoming an early road loss at Washington, before taking out No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Virginia Tech-getting screwed out of an Orange Bowl title game shot against No. 1 Oklahoma, but taking it out on No. 7 Florida, 37-20 in the Sugar Bowl.

What made this and the teams in the next 2 yrs the greatest/most entertaining CFB team(s) EVER, is the fact all the facets of a football team were a real threat to score a TD. Offense, Defense and ST.

I love how everyone dismisses the fact that FSU handed the game to MIA with 3 unforced turnovers, 2 missed FG’s, and 2 missed 4th down conversions, and also how Vick only played like 9 snaps in that game with V Tech. Everyone says they got screwed when in reality FSU had the better resume and beat Florida by 23, while Miami beat Florida by 17.

I don’t know why, BUT I love this 2000 team more than even the national championship 2001 team. Maybe it was Al Blades, dudes like Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss. Maybe it was because they put the program back on the Match. The FSU-UM 27-24 Wide Right III made me run out into the streets and Party!! I figured out what it is! 2000 Hurricanes were like a transition from the probation years and the Old Canes when they fought UF in New Orleans before the Sugar Bowl.

However, a comparison of the teams that FSU played and defeated versus who Miami played and defeated clearly showed that FSU had the stronger schedule and was the better team at the end of the year. FSU defeated #21 NC State 58-14, #10 Clemson 54-7 and #4 Florida 30-7. Florida was the only common opponent for FSU and Miami. FSU beat the Gators by 23 points and held them to 7 points while Miami beat them by 17 points but gave up 20 points. Miami played McNeese State, Rutgers, Temple, Louisiana Tech and other than that over-ranked #2 Virginia Tech team, none of the other teams Miami defeated on their schedule had more than 7 wins. On the other hand, FSU defeated Georgia Tech (9 wins), Louisville (9 wins), NC State (8 wins), Clemson (9 wins) and Florida (10 wins).

@@billblaski9523well that’s funny you write a book on this but Miami beat you guys for how many years after this win in 2000 ? So to say they were a better team is a joke. Idc who FSwho had played the point was Miami beat them every time. Miami should’ve been in that championship game and they would’ve beat OU hands down. People love to hate on Miami and it’s the simple reason that folks don’t want to see Miami prosper. Those young men got screwed out of a championship opportunity period.
