Metro Exodus is a first-person shooter video game developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver. It is the third installment in the Metro video game series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels. It is set to follow the events of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light.
Metro Exodus is a first-person shooter game with survival horror and stealth elements. Set in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the former Russian Federation, the player must cope with the new hazards and engage in combat against mutated creatures as well as hostile humans. The player wields an arsenal of hand-made weaponry which can be customized through scavenging materials and a crafting system. The game features a mixture of linear levels and sandbox environments. It also includes a dynamic weather system, a day-night cycle, and environments that change along with the seasons as the story progresses. It will be set over the course of one whole in-game year

I picked it up on the Steam Xmas sale and finally got around to playing it. I'll say one thing - I started getting worried about the good/bad ending after seeing some stuff on it - But it's pretty forgiving. I probably did more killing than I should've, yet spared those whom surrendered. I helped anyone whom asked as side quests. I spent time listening to any NPC that wanted to chat till they ran out of conversation. One of the few games I have played all the way through without touching another game.

I love this game, the mission and level design is so clever, and I love the twists each new environment brings. People complain about a lack of an antagonist but I feel like the post-apocalyptic world and human nature are the "antagonists". It's like a mix of the non-linear atmospheric exploration of stalker with a tighter narrative structure. They really nailed it with this one - a really good game for shooter enthusiast.

  • @N-GinAndTonicTM

    @N-GinAndTonicTM

Late Comment. I think the comments about a lack of a protagonist come solely from the fact we had a really good one in Pavel, in Last Light. Because he wasn't a typical villain. He was just following orders from his station; and went through a well-done character arc. Saving him at the end will always be a great moment, because it's up to you to be the hero of the story; and looking back at all the shit you did? Artyom and Pavel are much more alike than you think.

And here I am, a year later, having done exactly the thing you mentioned and waited until it arrived on Steam. Now I've finally completed the game, and I can say with surety that it is one of the milestone games in my life. I was moved to my core by the ending, so much so that after finishing and turning off the game, I had to sit down and just think for quite a while to digest and consider what I had just witnessed. Games like this are one in a million, and they will remain so, because it seems like gamers with the patience and concentration to enjoy them are one in a million as well. The game makes you stop, listen, and pay attention. It doesn't splash information all over your HUD, put big waypoints on your screen, or light your path on your minimap. You have to be invested and attentive to really get what's going on in the game. 2033 and Last Light were much the same way, but with fewer and smaller points where you were set free to really enjoy the great mechanics of the gameplay itself. Exodus doesn't make the same mistake. It rewards the attention and immersion of the player in a way the other 2 games did not, with much more freedom and choice. Now that the game is out on steam, there is no more excuse for you not to play it. Get it. Clear your schedule for a few hours at a time and lock your door to avoid interruptions, so you can really allow yourself to get involved in it. And unlike many other games of its type, you will reap the benefits of your immersion. The game is just made that way. Buy it. You won't regret it.

AHeroAlmost That’s honestly how the Volga and Caspian levels are and I fucking loved it. The Taiga level is very controlled which I didn’t mind, (especially if you are trying to get the achievement for that area) and the Dead City level was a nice throwback to the tunnels of Moscow. Controlled open world games are fucking awesome and I hope they become more of a staple genre.

I loved everything about this game. The combat, the stealth, the moral choices of it all, but strangely, the part i enjoyed the most was the small segments in between the different areas, where you’re just cruising on the train. I spent so much time on these places, staying even after i had exhausted all of the dialogue. It made me connect so much more with the characters, and made the ending and the outcomes so much more fulfilling and exciting.

i spent 15 whole ass minutes smoking a ciggie with Krest, than like 10 more minutes cuddling with my wife while we gather our thoughts about moving ahead and calming down about my father in law/CO, sat in on Stepan and Katya and played a bit of guitar, I met with the colonel shortly after to learn about the next area/step for our group, admired the open air for a minute, spent a few minutes shoveling coal into the engine to give my friend a break, and drank with the rest of my crew before tuning my weapons and having another cig with Krest. i love those in-between levels so much, few games do that kind of thing.

I might be exaggerating here, but I feel that the Metro series (replayed it again this week) is one of the most unique and special First Person Shooters ever. Phew, the times this game has given me anxiety: avoiding enemy flashlights, going from stealth to action to stealth again, and just when you thought it was peaceful, you encounter mutants that snarl and growl from every direction, making you paranoid at every direction. (I dont scare easily, even RE2 feels like it's not horror) Regarding Exodus' ending, Ive heard that 50% love it, and 50% hate it, so Im glad to you hear that you loved it G3Man, I trust your judgment on this one. I also loved that you made it clear to us Metro fans that there are no Karma point-loss from butchering baddies, I have yet to see this from other reviews, and that little "hint" you gave us midway through the review. This is why I subscribed.

They will get their money. Cause gamers are dumb sheep. In 2020, they will release the game on Steam for Full Price again! And people will undoubtedly buy it for that price. And not to forget the cuntsole players. Those azzheads who blindly throw their worthless money at everything with tits in it. Because standards and integrity is something that is alien to them. And currently day 1, Metro Exodus is a dumpster fire on both Cuntsoles and PC. The game is bugged, it crashes on all systems. Some people can't even start it, because there is no exe file hours later. DX12 crashes the game hard. Black endless loading screens. The game has no FOV slider. How *retarded* is that in 2019?? People claim the FOV is ~60. What a joke of a developer team. The graphical options menu on PC bugged, RTX is bugged, DLSS is bugged. WTF is going on? PS4 and XBonerX complain about terrible Camera controls. Looking up and down is slow AF. If Metro Exodus is not a dumpsterfire atm. nothing is. And good ol SJ is shilling the fck out of this game. I did the opposite first playthrough normal, second playthrough Ranger hardcore. It's a tradition I started when I played 2033 and last Light, and I'll be damned if I change it. I do see making a first playthrough hardcore over normal. Helps you to adjust wall at the same time getting you more better prepared. But starting normal and going to Ranger hardcore kind of makes nasty surprises such fun to run into. Such as getting too used to having enough ammunition that you start splurging and getting way too into spray and pray. And then hearing that dreaded clicking sound of an empty gun and not reloading because guess what you're out of ammunition but you can't check because you're in a combat situation. Taught me real quick not to act so stupid. Plus I learned to not stand still like a dumbass all the time. Normal I could get away with a few hits before I had the move or heal or I could just wait to regenerate health. Ranger hardcore LOL, I had to be made aware that my now limited 5 Med packs could potentially run out and I wouldn't find another. And of course remembering heels I passed by using any means like oh there's a lantern nearby but I can't pick it up I'll just cut that Lantern on to remind myself this is where it is. Then cut it off when I pick it up so when I backtrack I won't go check around there like an idiot. Basically it becomes like teaching me how to swim. Normal mode is me swimming in the area where my feet can touch, and Ranger hardcore is me finally swimming over the area where my feet do not touch the bottom. Got to learn how to swim first before I can swim like a pro . which I love about this game series

reading the new comment section is just sad. i agree that i like Metro exodus, but honestly the EGS is the problem, it's not because i'm a huge Steam boy, but the the fact that it's exclusivity and the timing is the problem, i would say the backlash was justifiable (except those who think it's a good idea to review bomb the older games) and as many people said this before it is anti-consumer. non-exclusivity was part of the reason, people considered PC gaming as the master race, already game studio like Bethesda, Activtision-blizzard have already being creating their own launchers and already companies like Bethesda are already incompetent with them. Steam may have been a gloating mess of bad indie games, toxic communities, 25% pay cut, but what steam did well was a convenient access to play games in one platform. why do people stick to steam is the same reason why we still use google or watch videos on KZread, its because they well known platforms that people known is where the numbers are People have the tendency to browse stuff all within one platform like steam. i mean just how of many of us are using stuff google to search stuff moreso then Bing, or perhaps who do so many people stay with KZread even through it's gotten corporate over the years. Why it best platform we have to find anything, sure KZread and steam have trashy content, but they do the right thing to what is recommend, what we search, what we need and more importantly how recognizable they are. when this backlash even started, alot of it was definitely against the exclusive, but now it's been a divide problem. i still side with the bad poor choice of signing that exclusivity because if it never happen, the community would've never gotten into this shithole

A common misconception that i noticed revolving around this game is that it's called an "open world" game, which is absolutely not. The game is "semi-open world" at best because out of 7 playable chapters only 2 feature an open world style of exploration; namely volga and caspian sea. The other missions are linear just like the previous games and its not a bad thing. The game still remained true to its roots (especially with the last mission) while allowing us to also experience it in a different manner. I had one issue with Taiga level however. I believe it had a lot of opportunities as an open world map to be explored but instead the devs took a very bad linear approach to the level design that forcibly encouraged players to stealth approach.

Looks like they took everything that made the originals games great but polished out some of the AA clunkiness to some of the UI and animations. Bell how so? In survival games they should definitely be there. Even in non-survival games like Fallout 3/NV and Far Cry 2, weapon jamming is a nice mechanic cuz A) its realistic and B) it makes weapon degradation matter. Otherwise what are you gonna do, make bullets do less damage? That makes no sense And i agree about the homoginization and that’s not what im asking for. I’m not saying all games need this mechanic. It would suck in multiplayer shooters to have your gun jam. I’m just saying i’d like to see it more in FPSRPGs cuz its realistic. Saying that’s homogenizing games is like saying having gravity is homogenizing games

  • @mdd4296

@@nat040496Bullets deal less damages when it is shot from a barrel whose rifling has degraded is realistic. Shooting that way give the bullet less kinetic energy. It is still fatal to get shot but it might not be able to penetrate body armor it could've went through otherwise. There's also other thing you can do: make the gun less accurate, lower the effective range, longer reload time, more smoke created from residue gunpowder that enter your eyes, magazine fall out after x shots etc, overheating barrel explode the bullet after certain shots...Most games make jamming random and randomness should be framed as a bonus (like critical hit , chance to proc secondary effect) to keep them from being annoying for the majority of players.

  • @nat040496

Nass Lass i’m not disagreeing. Far Cry had some cool animations where the gun would completely break when firing, like a barrel blowing off etc. i would love more than just jamming, but jamming is the first and most obvious option. My point is that i’d like to see weapon malfunctions and weapon degradation be a more prominent feature in these kinds of games. I was sad to see Fallout get rid of it. They brought it back with 76 but there’s no malfunctions. The gun just disappears out of your hands once it breaks

  • @FalloutWanderer-uq5sh

Agreed. I think it's not even as much about being realistic per se although in game like Metro where survival and scarcity is a major focal point it's a nice way to mix up combat, resource management, and gameplay. When handled properly I find weapon degradation to be more of a plus than a minus. Prior Fallout games, FC2, TW3, RDR 2 to name a few and now Metro Exodus having weapon degradation and weapon maintenance adds another layer to the experience.

Big props to you GGGmanlives. This game is getting a lot of shit right now for a decision which, although troublesome, mostly rests with the publishing side of things. Really, most of their releases get shit in some way or another when they're developers working with relatively limited means making really good, atmospheric first-person shooters with some AAA production values. They deserve some damn breathing room and to have ample credit given where it is due.
