I danced with my daughter at her wedding to this beautiful little tune. Not a dry eye in the house, including mine.

I bought this album when it came out in the 80's and sang this song every night to both my daughters when they were babies. One of these daughters, now fully grown, just had her own daughter. When I held her, I just naturally started singing Little Potato to her. I had tears of joy in my eyes. I have them again now, just recounting this. Young people now may not realize how remarkable this album was. One of the first to feature a group of men singing loving baby songs. As a man just come of age at that point in history, this was revolutionary and liberating.

This was the song my mom sang to me as a baby in the 80s. Sometimes the memory lasts, but it's that connection that is amazing.

For the record - no pun intended - Metamora *was* a remarkable trio - and the first album [of what amounted to a super-group ;->] was indeed a sensation - but *not* a collection of baby songs ! I think back then Grey was the only papa in the outfit ;-> And more to the point all the other tunes on the album reflected the communities they were part of: the New England hub of traditional musicians, the emerging circuit of wildly enthusiastic contra dancers from there to Appalachia, and... Ok. Lol - enough day dreaming.

I sing this to my cat, Callie. She's our little potato: an ex-feral rescue who came to us with a broken jaw, and then stayed. I remember it from Metamora's concerts back in Bloomington, IN in the 80s.

Just before Christmas I got a cat from the Humane Society, and they named her Potato. Never thought I'd keep the name after I adopted her, but it just stuck. Then I remembered Metamora's potato song and how much I enjoyed it, so things just started falling in place. To introduce her to the family, I gave everyone a dressed up spud: Patriotic Potato, Hungry Potato, Party Potato, Sweet Potato, Sleepy Potato and Tater Vader.

My father recently died and my mother is already passed and hearing this on this sad day really helped me feel like someone was once there that remembered me as a baby. I sang this to my two babies and got to hear them perform this live with my late husband. It's incredible how a simple song stays with you and become an anthem for your loving your children.

In 1987, my first child, a daughter, was born. My sister-in-law gave her a gift of a tape of this song. It became my baby's special song and has remained all hers. I cry when I hear it! Today is her 31st birthday and I sent her the link so she could enjoy it all over again. Thanks, Malcolm Dalglish for this exquisite and enchanting gem!

They must have grown you wild You make [your mama] a child *I'll go and play in the mud to be with you my Spud* Potato, when you came out looking red as a beet you had wrinkles on the bottoms of your feet... The. Best. Baby/Child Song. Ever. Vinyl long lost, & the baby is 42... So grateful I came looking again...

You're my little potato, you're my little potato, You're my little potato, they dug you up, You come from underground, The world is big, so big, so very big To you, it's new, it's new to you. You're my little potato, you're my little potato, You're my little potato, they dug you up, You come from underground. Let's talk about root crops (they dug you up), And lamb chops (they chew on you), And things to eat like apples And cheese and 'nanas and cream, Jellies and butter, It's late at night, I hope this little bottle helps you go to sleep. They must have grown you wild, You make a grown man a child, I'll go and play in the mud To be with you my spud (potato). When you came out looking red as a beet, You had wrinkles on the bottoms of your feet! Oh, you are so sweet potato! You're my sweet potato, You're my sweet potato, dug you up You come from underground. You smile, a smile, a little smile The world is small, so small, it's very small You're my little potato, you're my little potato, You're my little potato, they dug you up, You come from underground
