Metallic Speedpaints Do They Work?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Those lovely people over @TheArmyPainter recently sent me their Speedpaints Mega Set 2.0 and the first thing I wanted to try was their metallic speedpaints, with the slapchop painting technique, the question is do they work??

Try using different colors for you base coat the effect is great. I also layer after using speed paints, the highlight color reactivates the speed paint and the blend is excellent. Also I thin them and use them as a glaze

Fellow noob painter here, I’ve been really enjoying Army Painter Speedpaints. The only part of painting I’m not enjoying is using regular acrylics for the metallics. So I’m really looking forward to my delayed pre-order of a selection of the 2.0 metallics now I’ve seen them in action! Great mini and an enjoyable video sir 👍👍

I downloaded a 3d file of little orc heads that glue onto the tops of these bottles. I primed them all and painted them in this method so there's a proper representation of each paint on the top of the bottle. I looked up speedpaint bottle top swatches. There are other swatch files out there that cost a few dollars as well. Now I just need to figure out how much to scale them up so I can have them on my Green Stuff World Dipping Inks too.

One of my friends is married, works full time and has two young kids. As you can imagine he doesn't have much time to himself. He asked me how to paint minis quickly, so I mentioned your channel to him and offered to do some test models for his Word Bearers and Night Lord. I bought 3 GW contrasts and 3 Army Painter Speed Paints and have found that the Army Painter speed paints provide the best results. As it only took 30 minutes to paint a single model (this included the undercoating and drybrushing as I placed the miniature in front of a portable electric heater to speed up drying time), my friend will be able to get his armies painted.

I am not sure that the Speedpaint metallic is that different to normal metallics? I mostly use Scale75 metallics but have just bought an Army Painter set (not Speedpaint). I have never had an issue with the quality of metallics but some do need very thorough shaking to mix them properly. My first experience of metallics was using metallics was Pebeo Studio Acrylics about 15 years ago and I still occasionally use their Dyna range for special metallic effects. This is standard acrylic paint and costs about £3 for 100ml!

Normally when painting metallics you'd get the best results with a glossy black undercoat, but you obviously can't use SpeedPaint over black. That makes me wonder if a coat of glossy medium like 'ard coat would make these metallic SpeedPaints pop more if you applied it over a slap-chopped undercoat.

Eh...The bronze looks like leather to me, maybe its better in person? I don't see much of a metal effect. Silver is a bit better I guess. But relaly just looks like a dull grey... Doesn't look like the zenithal effects the end result as well as the regular non-metalic speed paints. The contrast difference isnt apparent enough. The green looks so much better than the metals. I think i'll be more inclined to stick to tranditional metal paints, the difference in quality is huge for not a massive amount of extra time invested.
