Metallic Speedpaints Do They Work?
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Those lovely people over @TheArmyPainter recently sent me their Speedpaints Mega Set 2.0 and the first thing I wanted to try was their metallic speedpaints, with the slapchop painting technique, the question is do they work??

Try using different colors for you base coat the effect is great. I also layer after using speed paints, the highlight color reactivates the speed paint and the blend is excellent. Also I thin them and use them as a glaze

I sorta didn't believe the speedpaint metallics would be up to much. But this looks cracking. You've got a good eye for fun models. Gonna be using bit on the good old slap-chop.

Fellow noob painter here, I’ve been really enjoying Army Painter Speedpaints. The only part of painting I’m not enjoying is using regular acrylics for the metallics. So I’m really looking forward to my delayed pre-order of a selection of the 2.0 metallics now I’ve seen them in action! Great mini and an enjoyable video sir 👍👍
You're a great advocate for these paints and this painting technique.

I'm impressed that it actually does show the work you did on drybrushing the undercoat. Might have to pick these up

Yeah and they cover really well 🙂
I downloaded a 3d file of little orc heads that glue onto the tops of these bottles. I primed them all and painted them in this method so there's a proper representation of each paint on the top of the bottle. I looked up speedpaint bottle top swatches. There are other swatch files out there that cost a few dollars as well. Now I just need to figure out how much to scale them up so I can have them on my Green Stuff World Dipping Inks too.
love that The Army Painter did listen to their customers, that speaks very high from them. Great video and painting!

I am looking forward to trying the metalics out to FINALLY get into my Grey Knight backlog!
I think when you print all the minis you have them all be orks so you can use all your different greena and see how the colors look with all the different greens that way you get your orks and not just plane colored miniatures :) these metalics look really cool

One of my friends is married, works full time and has two young kids. As you can imagine he doesn't have much time to himself. He asked me how to paint minis quickly, so I mentioned your channel to him and offered to do some test models for his Word Bearers and Night Lord. I bought 3 GW contrasts and 3 Army Painter Speed Paints and have found that the Army Painter speed paints provide the best results. As it only took 30 minutes to paint a single model (this included the undercoating and drybrushing as I placed the miniature in front of a portable electric heater to speed up drying time), my friend will be able to get his armies painted.

Great video! Love the channel and the content you’re creating! 😊 I love Army Painter speed paints. I use them pretty much exclusively now. The new set looks amazing! Those metallics are awesome. Can’t wait to get my hands on some!
Glad I watched this today. I was looking at buying an army painter speedpaint set, the 24 box and the metallic separately. Will see if I can get this 2.0 set
I've been following a bunch of your speed paint videos and they're top notch. I have the starter set, but cannot wait to get some metallics!

Thanks for highlighting the new box. Can't wait to get it, I loved the original 1.0 mega box of AP speed paints as well ^^
"Glee Jew" had me on the floor. Ghillie Dew shenanigans aside, thanks for selling me on the metallics.
Best bloody channel on the tube as far as I'm concerned. Really caters to the masses!! I was sick to death of painting minis, came across this channel and have completed both the new Heroquest + Lord of the rings Journeys in middle earth since. Chuffed with the results as well :)

That model turned out great. I was worried the speed paint would run and the "metallic" additives would pool in the recesses or pull downward. "When it comes to sort of technical terms, I know none of them." Same. As long as the meaning gets across, it works.

What is it like over a simple white undercoat or a simple black undercoat? Could you test that please

Hey mate , loved the vid, thanks ! Would you be able to show how painting the new Metallics on top of old speed paint ( i.e I’ve done armies with Gravelord Grey swords , now want them metallic) works out ? Just curious if reactivating is a thing …

Same here, this is the real question
How much does it settle dark in the recesses? I've only tried one of them so far and while it went on really nice it didn't seem like a speedpaint. There was no dark in The recess or highlight on the edge
Wow thats a cool model great paint job.

I do love MrModulorks miniatures 🙂
This looks great but it’s hard to tell the difference between Speedpaint metallics and just regular thin Metallics from other companies
I am not sure that the Speedpaint metallic is that different to normal metallics? I mostly use Scale75 metallics but have just bought an Army Painter set (not Speedpaint). I have never had an issue with the quality of metallics but some do need very thorough shaking to mix them properly. My first experience of metallics was using metallics was Pebeo Studio Acrylics about 15 years ago and I still occasionally use their Dyna range for special metallic effects. This is standard acrylic paint and costs about £3 for 100ml!
hey man great video! Instead of printing 50 minis to try the paint, you can spray paint the paint cap and paint these... that way you can easily see the results before choosing the paints
@MiniatureHobbyist

For the orc skin, did you mix the two colours together or just use “orc skin”?

I dod say it in the description, yup its totally slapchop but after the first 15 videos I get bored of saying it lol 🙂
I didn't like the first speed paints, the re-activation made it impossible to fix mistakes. I went back to contrast paints even though they didn't fill into the recesses and darken as well as the speed paints. I'm looking forward to the release of the 2,0 speed paints,
Normally when painting metallics you'd get the best results with a glossy black undercoat, but you obviously can't use SpeedPaint over black. That makes me wonder if a coat of glossy medium like 'ard coat would make these metallic SpeedPaints pop more if you applied it over a slap-chopped undercoat.

The Speedpaint Metallics work surprisingly well over a black undercoat!

Haha, try and sneak one in, I just love 3D printers and they are getting cheaper all the time 🙂
I feel the Silver is not silvery, more like Iron. Not bad at all though.
Eh...The bronze looks like leather to me, maybe its better in person? I don't see much of a metal effect. Silver is a bit better I guess. But relaly just looks like a dull grey... Doesn't look like the zenithal effects the end result as well as the regular non-metalic speed paints. The contrast difference isnt apparent enough. The green looks so much better than the metals. I think i'll be more inclined to stick to tranditional metal paints, the difference in quality is huge for not a massive amount of extra time invested.

I think using Contrast over normal bright metallics is actually kind of a cheat code. It didn't fail me so far...

These are definitely more of a two tone paint but a BIG part of the speed is how smoothly and easily they cover compared to standard metallics.
Well done video, but IMO, metallic speedpaints really arent necessary. To each his own though.
@slow_runner
Жыл бұрын
For me it's mostly how they flow. I'm using only contrasts and speed paints and whenever I need to use metallics it just seems so slow using them. If the metallic speed paints give me a bit of contrast as well that's just a bonus for me.
@MiniatureHobbyist
Жыл бұрын
Yup we all have our own preferences 🙂
I didn't see a great effect with the metallics speedpaint. Actually, it's look more like a normal paint. Your miniatures still need a good wash.
Yeah speedpaint my ass. These paints are for dudes who want to smash 1 paint on the mini. Thats it. Otherwise you have to wait 2 hours between each step or varnish everytime or they will reactivate.....again. Especially the metallics.
