Every Faction of Conquest vs. Speedpaint 2.0
We've got some fresh paint and some models from Conquest the Last Argument of Kings. Speedpaint 2.0 is a new formula with new colors, and Conquest the last argument of kings has a whooooole lot of cool minis! I've painted enough of one faction in this video to play the skirmish game Conquest: First Blood.
I was able to spend some time with all seven factions of conquest last argument of kings (Conquest LAOK / CLAOK) Hundred Kingdoms, The Spires, The Nords, Dweghom, Nords, W'adrhun, The Old Dominion, and The City States. I think I used a bit from all 49 of the colors in this "megaset" box from army painter.

The left-right audio balance for this vid is off a bit. A tragic accidental click of a slider that I've never intentionally used. It wasn't bad enough for me to notice during proofing, but some of ya'll are definitely picking up on it. Whoops! Sorry! Live and learn, this is one mistake that I won't make again ;-)

With the names I whole heartedly agree. With artist's paint, the names are standardized. Also, if you look at artist's grades Liquitex or Golden there is a swatch on the label to freaking see it dry. There was an absolute mad lad who did a spreadsheet I wish I had kept up with. The work was insane. He swatched and compared all the hobby paint lines. He took the artist's paint name, and the industry paint names and made a translation guide. basically: Red: Ruby's Teets Malgorth's rage Cherry Desire Kryptonian shine So on The nonsense copyrightable names got translated. The file was huge and it was so much work, I wouldn't blame him if they stopped.
@GoobertownHobbies

I know the spreadsheet that you're talking about, it was madness 5 years ago, I'm sure it's worse now if anyone has been keeping up with it. A few hobby paint lines ARE using good names, and they should be encouraged :-)

Always good to have a nice classic Goobertown speedpaint video.
A five-fold reduction in paint time for a frankly inept painter like me is why I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of my first Speedpaints. I've watched your own journey with Army Painter, it's been good to watch a receptive company respond to thoughtful feedback.
Great video as always Brent!! I totally understand that paint companies need to create catchy interesting paint names but, I'm very pleased they took your advice and will also be putting a color description as well.

Thanks! yeah the descriptive subtitles is a fair compromise, I'm glad it's happening! :-)
I'm very happy that Army Painter responded to your label comments. It's difficult to gauge what a paint can look like just from the bottle.
Big thumbs-up for printing the pigment name/code on the label if miniature paint manufacturers want to be taken seriously by artists. Sure, they can give it a name like "Eldritch Glow", but also call it what it is: Phthalo Green / PG7.

Good job with the label info increase goobs. Love the user friendly activity of army painter. I want to dive in but I’m not sure what series of paint I’m about to buy! 😅
Thanks for covering game companies that really deserve our attention and money! The nice thing about Slapchop Speedpainting is that you start with very vibrant colors. If you spend just a couple extra minutes and drybrush/overbrush on some highlights with ivory or similar warm white, the results increase dramatically. Then, if you also add an oil wash step then it really pops. This workflow is all I use lately!
@TheAliking14

Lol, they fucked in the first one so they are literally selling you the same paint all again
I do def agree with the naming. The absolute best thing you can do with these colors is to take a small, thick papered notebook and paint a labeled line of each in it, thick to thin. One drop a bottle is adequate and you'll never look at a bottle again and go "what color was that again??" Great way to prevent waste
@GoobertownHobbies

a notebook is a fantastic idea :-)
As always, the science background shows with the methods. Hits home to my own background and I think more KZread mini painters could stand to take some advice from your approach. I appreciate the calm cool collected tone and not being shouted at while trying to enjoy a peaceful painting video
As a coulourblind person, I do find painting difficult when the names are not very direct or understandable as to what the colour actually is. Thankfully, my wife is quite good with colour theory so she has been a great help.
Good to see you out and about again. I can see how this sort of video would take some time to get out there! MORE!

Great video, as always. To prepare my minis I prime in white, then black speedpaint with a lot of medium (like 1/6, depending on the colors I will use later on the mini), and then matt varnish. Maybe not as fast as the drybrush, but I think the result is smoother.

Most artist brands already have the pigments on each paint as publicly available information, and Scale75 is doing it too, it's so important when you're mixing paints to know which pigments you're actually mixing, and it sucks that miniature painting companies keep that information secret. I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reasoning is that facilitating that information would make it easier to paint with a small range of paints since you could mix them a lot easier, and they make a lot of money from having huge ranges with dozens or hundreds of colors, so they would rather not make it easier for people to make more colors from less paints

From what I heared from guys at LFGS big Conquest is now played without 'loose' models. You stick in the models to tray and make signle diorama of it .. without removable models (unless you want to play First Blood skrimish). That helps a lot with Orks xD

Great video. Thank you! I'm excited to try the speed paints out. The figures themselves are wonderful looking and I have got a penchant for the big ones myself. I think the note on the speed paints being challenging to correct at times with mistakes is a good one for me getting started. Not to be scared of screwing up ("There are no mistakes, only happy accidents," thank you Bob Ross) but paint with mindful intention. Take it slow and enjoy washing the dishes so-to-speak.
