The song is about every relationship he fucked up because of his addiction and depression. One of the biggest being his mom, but not the only one. Nearly lost his band and life because of these issues. Beautiful song great band!!

Is great to see the development of Justin through his music, one of the most important aspects of art is to transmit a message or an idea, Blue October does that and more. Definitely one of my favorites bands.

Please listen to more of his music. His passion & raw emotion shines through in just about every one of them. You have to listen to Light You Up. You will not be disappointed. Well, not by any of them. He truly is an amazing artist & vocalist. Also, your take on “Hate Me” was on point. Thank you!

He’s talking about his mom! I love this song because I know how addiction feels like and my mom was by my side as much as ppl told her to let me go and learn on my own she always stuck by my side and now she has breast cancer and I hate that she spend all her time by mines now I feel like I’m not enough n my time is worthless I couldn’t compare to how much she did for me I’m sober now for 3 years and my mom is still hanging on but this Song hits every spot.

Been 3 months but oh well! The song is about his ex girlfriend, they just used his mom for the music video/the voicemail is a real voicemail from his mom

One of my favorite songs by them and it is another less hard track is called the feel again (stay) its extremely personal to justin and very emotional. Oh btw this song was more for all of the people he put through hell because of his addictions and how he treated them through it. In the original studio track a lot of the emphasis is on his mom throughout the whole song.

As a metal guy, if I were to suggest one other BO song, you should try "Say It" (and personally, I like the official music video of that one as much as the live versions). Give it a shot especially if a violin solo in a badass rock song intrigues you. And one more, if you want a not so heavy song -- the song "Worry List" by them is the most emotionally breathtaking song of theirs (to me). Especially as a father, it's so incredibly heartbreaking and emotional. He wrote it about his daughter and his divorce. I'd suggest both of those!

I came away with a different meaning to the last line "How can you do this to me." I interpreted that as "How can you leave me after all this." To which he explains...hate me. I come away with, the song is an explanation to that final verse. Just a thought.

Just found your channel and can’t help but watch all your Blue October reactions. Curious if you ever watched/listened to the actual recorded version of this song? Of all their songs Hate Me is probably one of the best recorded versions. Although I do strongly agree that in general their live tracks are felt much deeper including Hate Me. But even the recorded version of Hate Me and a few other recorded versions of some of their songs have just as much of an impact as the live performances

Well done!! 👏 not many have reacted to this masterpiece, the few who have didn’t get the meaning of the message. The video literally causes arguments between people who see this is being written about his mother but what man would say thoughts of being with his mom makes a porno feel like home. You nailed this one and appreciate the awareness on hate crimes.

Great video, I really like the way you examine the lyrics! “Ocean Breathes Salty” by Modest Mouse would be a great one to react to. I don’t believe there are any reactions to it on KZread yet. Also “Elephant” and “If We Were Vampires” by Jason Isbell.

This song always gets to me. In my mind it reminds me of my relationship with my best friend when I was in high school. I was going through serious mental health issues. I was actively suicidal and a fucking shit show of a person. I could call her at 3 AM having a fucking breakdown. It didn't matter what she was going through at the time she was always there for me. To this day I feel guilty because I feel I was being selfish in our relationship. She was going through shit at the same time I was, but she was always there for me, even though I wasn't always there for her like I should have been. I feel like she deserved better than me as a friend. There were times I wished she would hate me because I felt like she should hate me.
