Just a reminder to every non-Italian around the world that mafia IS indeed a mountain of shit, and not some cool yolo gang of romanticized Robin Hood-ish criminals. It's probably Italy's grestest shame. Thanks for choosing this song, I'm sure that you'll appreciate the movie too! A great lesson about this dark side of our culture

@@dianapohe you're right, my friend. However, It is normal to wish for a serene life... even so, we had many heroes: This period seems better because of them. I always remember one of Falcone phrases: "lucky is the society that doesn't need heroes". Eventually, this society will become the norm, I hope. Tanti saluti

This song is dedicated to Peppino Impastato, a political activist born in a mafia family who hated the mafia seeing it as an oppressive power against the people. He had a radio in which he made fun of the mafia and carried on political struggles against the mafia power (but not only). He knew that he was in danger of death and unfortunately he was killed, which is why he is considered a martyr and a hero for freedom and justice like Falcone and Borsellino, judges killed by the mafia.

THE HUNDRED STEPS "You attended school, can you tally?" "Yes, i can tally" "And can you walk?" "Yes, I can walk" "And walking and talling at the same time, can you do that?" " I guess I can" "So, come on, tally and walk...1,2,3,4.." " but where are we going?" "tally and walk..95,96,97,98,99,100..do you know who lives in here?" U zio Tanu lives here...one hundred steps are from our house, one hundred steps" Born in the land of vespers and orange trees, between Cinisi and Palermo he talked to his radio.. In his eyes you read the wish to change, the wish of Justice which brought him to fight... He had an important and respected surname, surely in that environment not much honoured by him You know where you born but not how you can die and you don't know if an ideal will bring you pain... "But you can now change your life, only if you're disposed to walk, shouting loud with no fear talling one hundred steps along your way"... So.. 1,2,3,4,5,10,100 steps!.. 1,2,3,4,5,10,100 steps! "We must revolt" He could choose to leave as many others, instead he decided to stay.. Friends, policy, party's struggle....he presented himself to the election He said that he would have controlled them closely, but after that he had not time because he had been killed.. His father's name in the night didn't help, the friends in dispair didn't find him anymore... "So tell me if you can tall, tell me if you can walk as well, talling, walking, together with singing the history of Peppino and the sicilian friends..." So.. 1,2,3,4,5,10,100 steps!..1,2,3,4,5,10,100 steps! It was the dark night of the Italian State, the ninth of may of '78.. The night of via Caetani, of the corpse of Aldo Moro, the dawn of the funeral of a state... "So tell me if you can tall, tell me if you can walk as well, talling, walking, together with singing the history of Peppino and the sicilian friends..." So.. 1,2,3,4,5,10,100 steps!..1,2,3,4,5,10,100 steps! "He's just a mafioso, one amongst many" "He's our father" "my father, my family, my town...but I don't want to give a damn I want to write that the mafia is a mountain of shit, I want to shout!"

Hi, for me this is the best traslation of the lyric: One Hundred Steps ( I Cento Passi) [opening spoken lines:] Peppino: You went to school. Can you count? Giovanni: What do you mean by "count"? P: What do I mean? One, two, three, four, can you count? G: Yes, I can count P: And can you walk? G: I can walk P: What about counting and walking at the same time, can you do this? G: Yes, I think so P: Then go on. Count and walk. Come on. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight… G: Where are we going? P: Go on! Count and walk! Nine… G: Hush! Peppino! P: 89 90 91 92 93 94 95 96 97 98 99 and 100! Do you know who lives here? Ah! Uncle Tano lives here! G: Ssh! Hush down! P: It’s one hundred steps from our home. One hundred steps! He was born in the land of vespers and orange trees Between Cinisi and Palermo he talked on his radio In his eyes you could read the longing for change The longing for justice that led him to fight He had a cumbersome and respected surname In that environment he so little honoured You know where you were born, but not how you’re to die Nor if an ideal will hurt you But now you can change your life Only if you’re ready to walk Shouting aloud without fear Counting one hundred steps along your way So… One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps Peppino: We have to rebel…rebel… He could, like many others, decide to leave He chose to stay, instead His friends, his politics, the fight of his party He stood for elections He said he could control them by standing close But then he didn’t have the time, because he was killed His father’s name couldn’t help him in the night His desperate friends never found him Then tell me if you can count Tell me if you can walk too Counting and walking while singing The story of Peppino and the Sicilian Friends1 So… One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps [4 times] It was the dark night of the Italian State May 9 ’78 The night of Via Caetani, of Aldo Moro’s corpse2 The dawn of the funerals of a nation… Then tell me if you can count Tell me if you can walk too Counting and walking while singing The story of Peppino and the Sicilian Friends So… One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps One, two, three, four, five, ten, one hundred steps [repeates several times] Peppino: He’s only one of the mafia! One of many! Giovanni: He’s our father Peppino: My father! My family! My country! I don’t wanna give a fuck! I wanna write that mafia is a heap of shit! I wanna scream! (Four, five, ten, one hundred) 1.Mafia men 2.On the same day Peppino Impastato was killed, Aldo Moro's corpse was found in Via Caetani, Rome. He had been abducted and kept prisoner for 55 days by the terrorist group Red Brigades and subsequently murdered. The two cases were unrelated and accidentaly occured during the same night. lyricstranslate.com

Thank you for transmitting this song and talking of the "I cento passi" film. Both song and film are so powerful and continue to move me every time I happen to listen to or watch one of them. It is a painful episode of the ongoing struggle against mafia in Sicily, which over the years caused and is causing the death of so many courageous Sicilians and Italians, among others. Peppino Impastato strongly opposed the culture of his own father and friends and tried to shake the people he could reach through his radio from their secular resignation to the rules imposed by mafia. That was his death sentence, but contributed to awake the concience of msny, especially among young generations of Sicilians.

The song is not in the OST of the movie (released in 2000). MCR perhaps take a cue from the movie and take pieces of audio from it to embellish the song released in 2004. Modena City Ramblers are a band that comes from Modena, a city close to the birthplace of Vasco and Ligabue! They were born in the early 90s and are very inspired by the Pogues, Dubliners and Dublin City Ramblers (from which they take their name) with also rock influences. They deal with social issues, such as the mafia, corruption, social justice, solidarity but also love and friendship, which is why they define themselves as a Kombat-Folk band. For an Italian teenager in 2000 MCR were an institutions!! After 2009, however, due to the exit of the historic singer (with a disarming voice), the change of members and the death of one of the musicians (or perhaps because the society or the musicbiz has changed) have somewhat lost track being anyway in business. I attach to you (and you all) two videos. The first album "Riportando tutto a casa" (Bringing everything back home) kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6iAla6GpcmtmrQ.html The piece of the May 1st Concert festival in Rome (the one "teased" by Elio and Le Storie Tese) Before the MCR concert there is the Bandabardò concert (similar band), but after MCR there is the concert of a singer that I know you, Ang, will like! kzread.info/dash/bejne/nJWOtqhuicbTh84.html

Mafia trials have been going on these days without media attention in Italy as the struggle has been going on for quite a while. According to some sources that you can check, since the liberation. I live in the UK and I do not know what to say about what I have experienced. Hello San Francisco? Is it still your land? Not

I sincerely don't know why they have put the face of the Che' at the end. The Che' had his fight against capitalism. His business, not mine. Peppino Impastato, and many others, have fought against Mafia, and he died. This song was made to honor him. A martyr in the war against Mafia, for legality, honesty, integrity, everything that distinguish us Italians from those savage barbarians.

Please react to "Stormi" - Iosonouncane ( translation: "flocks" - I'madog). 🔥🔥🔥Famous Indie Italian song. Great support to your channel !!! Text analysis is necessary, really deep meaning and strange rhythm (poetry style). ITA-ENG Lyrics: Facing the far shores, awakens the thirst, in the morning dragged by the trees. The first day that lose itself in salt, awakened the thirst, will return on the shore, as an alive body among the trees. _ To lie in the sun, to lie in the sun. _ When you will come to the shore, when the storm will disappear in the deep, in the morning among the trees. The first day that lose itself in salt, awakened the thirst, will return on the shore , as an alive body among the trees. __ To lie in the sun, The weeping remains and the salt-dried eyes abandon themselves. To lie in the sun, The weeping remains and the eyes abandon themselves on the shape of trees. __ Flocks in the morning with the sunlight, the high sun breaks down between the sails, sliding from the sides, the day falls on the far shores. __ Flocks in the morning with the sunlight, the high sun breaks down between the sails, sliding from the sides, the day grows on the far shores. __ (Nananà) High in the morning with the sunlight, the wind breaks down between the sails, I will fall on the shore, you're on the shore, to lie in the sun. __ (music bridge) __ It runs from the head in your hairs and every day you see that it still lives in the eyes. The sea currents in the morning that resume the sea. __ It runs from the head in your hairs and every day you see that it still lives in the eyes. The sea currents in the morning that resume the sea. __ It runs from the head in your hairs and every day you see that it still lives in the eyes. The sea currents in the morning that resume the sea. __ And with death in my heart I’ll run back where the day relives on the shape of trees. And with death in my heart I’ll run back where the day relives on the shape of trees.
