Fabrizio De André is one of Italy's finest songwriters. He wrote a whole album setting nine poems from Edgar Lee Masters' "Spoon River Anthology" to a tune.

Hi D 😊 Fabrizio de André is another level. Is a folk singer, a songwriter. In this one you can see his son Cristiano on the violin and his wife Dori Ghezzi in the chorus. De André can do so many stile from ballads to ancient sonetto. IMO he is a genius. Thank you for sharing. Next time check out Via del Campo. Hugs from Italy❤

Fabrizio is a poet, who passed away too early. Some of his songs are studied at school, in Italy, as an exemple of modern poetry... particularly La guerra di Piero and Bocca di Rosa, but also Fiume Sand Creeck, Dolcenera and Don Raffaé, wich are truly mastepieces. He was well known by Leonard Cohen, who loved his music. In my opinion his best song is Un Giudice but, being american, you should listen to Fiume Sand Creeck, a song speaking about the tragedy of the native american population.
He probably was the best Italian songwriter. A mith, a model, and he user Italian popular music making cover of them “volta La carta” is a nonsense traditional song inspired by Italian tarots.

@fran-js8ve "Very Celtic" Vero, anche io ho sentito un'influenza direi irlandese in questo pezzo,De Andrè aveva una cultura immensa (non solo musicale), è probabile che si sia ispirato a qualche ballata irlandese ascoltata chissà dove e ne ha fatto un pezzo fantastico come questo.
