Would you be interested in a Mikkey Dee solo drum album? No guitars, no vocals, just drums with verse chorus song structures. Listen to Stomp if you’re wondering about the composition.

The Graveyard was my first KD album, in a cassete copy format, and it's one of my favourites, the story is original and creepy, the 2 first tracks are up there to the best KD ever did... and some other standouts, his 90's best I'd say

I was HUGE into King during the 80s. I lived in a rural country town, and the kids called me a Satanist. I was the only kid at school in black listening to King. The school started monitoring me when a black pig's head was found on a road reflector outside the school bus drive-thru. I had my locker wallpapered in King posters from RIP, etc. They had gotten into my locker Xeroxed all my posters, and my school folders, and put them back in my locker like it was never touched. I also found a report in the counselor's office on a day-to-day write-up about how I was dressed, my attitude, etc. The report was titled "Satanism in Schools". The catalyst is in art I submitted an ink drawing I sat up all night working on using a quill and ink mixed with blood to give a cool effect. the art teacher rejected it for a contest, so I ripped it up in his face. That was in this file I discovered as well. I almost got expelled for discovering these documents, but they suspended me for 5 days right before graduation. I got to walk, but the art teacher gave me an F for the semester even though I was the best artist in school and everyone knew that. Had I not taken band the summer prior for no reason other than boredom, I would have not had the extra credit I needed to graduate and would have had to go to summer school. I lived the Satanic Panic of the 80s all because I was a King fan, dressed in black, was good at music, and better than the art teacher in art... plus I hated school and thought it was all nonsense... \m/

I remember seeing King Diamond on the Abigail tour. The "white metal" band Trouble opened for them here in Denver and was really outstanding and professional. After their set, the crowd started chanting "Satan! Satan! Satan!" and kept it up for a long time until King Diamond took the stage. He had a cool theatrical show back then. He had the goat skull's horns wrapped in flash paper which burst into flames. He also had flash paper on the back of his black cape which was put into a shape so that when ignited it made an upside cross of fire. If you were up close you could feel the heat from those pyros. I saw just about all the main touring acts in 1984-1990 and nobody was half as memorable as this guy.

Fortunately I had that opportunity to satiate my cravings the following year when I saw the Abigail 2015 tour in Atlanta GA at the Tabernacle. I attended in full KD makeup. Love King Diamond! While Abigail is my favorite of his albums, my old High School band actually covered "Trick or Treat" from The Graveyard. My wife would always be like, "I dont get it" when I listen to KD....then she actually listened to the "Voodoo" album as her family hails from New Orleans (complete with all the fascinations with the metaphysical/paranormal affectations that come with it lol). Now she is like, "Hey, put on the guy with the crazy falsetto!" LOL

@@JarJarBinks4ever "Interesting how the King Diamond falsettos can be easier for some poeple" Yup... Like for King Diamond himself. His non-falsetto isn't that tonal... for a reason. Barry Gibb for instance, though he's great all around, kind of sounds like he's struggling when not in falsetto. It's generally easier to lock and hold (maintain finetune over time) high pitches compared to low.

The man is a beast; he did a tour that included BOTH Merciful Fate and King Diamond, so he did two sets every night!!! However, the best concert I’ve seen from King Diamond was in 1990; the best lineup (except, that Mikkey Dee had just left the band, which I was really sad about, since he was my favorite metal drummer and perfect for King Diamond. However Snowy did a great job replacing him.) and they played the Them/Conspiracy story almost entirely. Singing was superb, playing was superb, and the whole fucking show was superb! One of the best gigs I’ve ever witnessed from any band. I was totally blown away...🤘

The OP does us all a great service. Love him or hate him King has the greatest falsetto I still have ever heard. It took me nearly 30 YEARS to catch him live but finally saw him with Fate in Washington DC. It still blows me away that he actually sounds better LIVE than on media. It was a sell out crowd and one of the best shows I have ever seen. They sounded beyond perfect. Pro Tools is weak sauce. Gene Simmons owns all the air over Detroit Rock City. He’ll sue you for theft if you breath it in.

Look at Arthur Brown's makeup in the video for Fire and you'll see where Gene stole it from.

You know, there’s a philosophical way to look at it. It’s been said that to borrow is good, but to steal is better. After all, don’t we stand on the shoulders of giants? (I have totally stolen bass lines to insert into songs where needed). If I’m ever influential enough for someone to steal from me, I would take it as a compliment.
