@@Yugee Idk bro I thought the writing was the best in the series, maybe behind 4. 3’s gameplay loop is definitely better, but it’s not like the characters/story are an improvement from 2. 3’s main characters are pretty one-note compared to 2’s (except the bosses, which 3 definitely did better). 3’s story is pretty much black and white “Go stop this objectively evil villain”, but every other main entry in the series has more going on, more to interpret/take away. The Raiden Rose love thing is whatever, but it makes sense in the context of her being a Patriot AI to begin with. And I’m not sure you can criticize 2’s setting being repetitive without noticing 3’s isn’t much more diverse - at least 3/4 of the game is just jungle. 3 is more fun to play on a second by second basis for sure, but I think 2 shines in the places 3 doesn’t.

Also, in case no one else mentioned it, I'm pretty sure SIGINT tells you about the microbombs during one of the conversations on the radio thing. That was always like one of the best things about that game. Playing that game as a kid, I felt so alone out in the field. Medic and SIGINT had so many interesting things to say and it felt like they were part of journey!

MGS3 has some of the best pacing of any game ever. replaying it as your older it feels shorter then it did a decade ago but it flows so well. the Boss fights all come at you at rapid pace but not in a way that feels rushed. all the while plot points in-between are priming the viewer for the crushing ending along the way. The VA in this is also really good, with the codec in this game being unmatched for the rest of the franchise. Lori Allan's lines being her usual aloof restrained self and then gradually getting simultaneously more strained and eventually even grateful at the end are amazing. EVA's voice acting is also amazing and to this day no one even knows who her VA is. there have been several theories about it, the two most popular that its Debi Mae West (Meryl) but others have speculated that its actually Jodi Benson of Little Mermaid fame. it remains a mystery to this day

One thing that the younger generations certainly missed with these kinda games, as well as the rise of the 3d generation of games in the mid 90s to the smoother 3d graphics of the PS2 era is the hype you build up with friends. We will just talk on and on about MGS1, then MGS2, then MGS3 (even with other games like Syphon Filter, Quake, Halo, Tekken, RE, and others). Constantly sharing info, tips, rivalries about where we are in the story, what we did while fighting the bosses, going to friends houses to watch them or help them sometimes, or inviting them over. Talking about the stories, plot twists, getting angry with spoilers then spoiling it as well lol! The community that we built centered around gaming in those days is something that I miss, and is in my opinion an integral part of these games, in fact of so many games. It wasn't just the games itself but the pop culture experience we took part in when the game was fresh and present and evolving.

To me it's an absolute visual treat that is still gorgeous. 3 is just such an excellent game, to some of us. I understand some not caring for certain bits, but I love it. Plenty of people have criticized when you heal yourself and eat... I say screw 'em, cuz I love that stuff. That has stood out to me the most.

I remember I had gone to blockbuster to rent the warriors on ps2 because I played it once before, but when I saw it was gone, there weren't many other games I wanted. I saw this and since I had played the demo on one of my demo discs, I thought screw it, I'd try it, even though I couldnt get the hang of it before. My nan was babysitting me for a few nights and I had a bed set up in the lounge where I set my ps2 up. It was either 1 or 2 nights, but I couldn't put it down, and finished the game in no time. It was late when I finished, and Eva's monologue just got to me. I sat there, as an 11 or 12 year old, with a few tears running down my face, feeling like I had been the one to do everything snake had. The rest of the week I played and finished it near half a dozen more times, trying new and different things, including not killing anyone at all. This is still the best game I have ever played. I now wish I had the spare time to play again, but also wish I could play again for the first time. I have a big tattoo from the boss fight on my leg This memory is near 15 years old and it still has such vivid imagery today, I'm so glad I picked this game up on a whim

Just wanted to say, the microbombs, is the in universe explication for the exploding bosses. But, if you play Mg and mg2 the Original 2d games, those guys explode after death too. So in order to justify it as part of that continuity, they made the bosses in mgs3 explode, making the original games closer to canon, you can now play them as actual entries into the series, not just the cute, before mgs1 game. They did the same in mgsv to justify superpowers that the cobra unit had, they said they were "parasite" soldiers. Mgs3 makes no mention of this, but Kojima loves to retro edit alot.

The AI and gameplay is definitely amazing and a nice step-up from MGS1, but its athmosphere is just not good. While the Tanker and Arsenal Gear were great, Big Shell was just the boring lame repetitive shit. Every room was the same, nothing unique, the bomb defusing stuff was working. While I consider MGS1 and MGS3 masterpieces and some of my favourite games ever made, I consider MGS2 to be a flawed masterpiece. Still fucking amazing, but definitely has a ton of flaws which drag it down

@Mat J MGS2 is fascinating from an examination standpoint, and as a conversation piece, but to actually play it sucks. Lame boss battles, boring environment. Cam Clarke is the biggest highlight of the game. MGS3 smashes it in every way.

I bought MGS3 the day it came out and I played it straight through beginning to end. No breaks. It took me around 18 or 19 hours. Worth every second.

My first summer in NYC, beautiful game.
Best part of this game was talking to friends on Monday about how they beat certain areas. Everyone had a different approach to playing the game.
This video made its way to my algorithm because MGS3 is the best game of all time in my opinion. Great video, I love seeing others appreciate such an incredible work of art.
I remember playing this in a room full of friends when it first came out. Within 10 minutes of turning it on, I looked back and realized that the whole room was silently and Intently watching me play. Everyone noticed I stopped and demanded I keep going, even the chicks. It was wild honestly.

The bosses death is the catalyst for the *entire* series. It makes Zero go batshit, it creates the philosopher's legacy, the patriots, Zanzibar, Venomous Snake, Outer Heaven, all of it. ALL OF IT CAN BE TRACED BACK TO THIS BETRAYAL.

In the Prison stage, I can’t remember how specifically but depending on your save during the cell stage you can play a different game Kojima was working on I believe.

One thing I hate with modern games is that they're way too long now like Assassin's creed valhalla.
What hurts the most is that you’ve grown to love snakes crew like Para medic, zero etc, and yet it turns out they all are complicit in this horrific lie.
I will never forget that I played this game on one session that took me almost 15 hours straight. I have never cried over a video game, but when eva makes the debrief and explains how the boss was in fact the hero, the guilt for having pressed that square button was so immense, I felt like Kurtz in Apocalypse Now after they vaccinated the vietnamese kids. I cried like a grandma!
Also, fun fact, the DARPA chief from MGS1 (the first guy who has a "heart attack") is actually SIGINT

Metal Gear Solid 3 holds up stupendously well. I only got into the series last year, but the jump from 2 to 3 somehow felt just as big as the change from 1 to 2, despite being on the same hardware and using the exact same engine. I can only imagine how revolutionary it was back in its day.
@Knifegash

It's actually not the same engine, though footage of an early build of MGS3 running on 2's engine exists.
Lol I saw someone seriously making the "black face paint is black face" argument in this game specifically. Absolutely wild
You could snipe The End on the pier earlier in the game. His wheelchair flies towards you and body slams you for missing out on the best boss fight in the game.
I think the encounter with Ocelot on the plane as well as the conversation heard at the end of the game deserved mentions here, but overall great video. It's both funny and captures the essence of this entry to the series
MGS3 is one of my favorite games. The character, gameplay, and story are all amazing. It's hard to believe it came out almost 20 years ago. It feels like it was made yesterday in terms of well it plays. And the 'Debriefing' cutscene is my favorite in all of gaming. It is just an exposition dump, but it gives you everything and you understand was Big Boss turned out the way he did.
You did a killer job of doing every epic scene in this game justice. MGS2 was my favourite until now but this video may have changed my mind.
Anyone else notice just how much Snake gets surrounded in this game?
hell yea I loved that metal gear 2 video, and mgs3 is my favorite in the series
the boss's speech at the end is better knowing that the boss has the same voice actor as pearl from SpongeBob (you can no longer unhear it)
Very well made video, big fan of the old sniper part, great job!
Great video - look forward to your rise in subscribers
I still think about how Snake Has The Guts And Endurance To Patch Himself up even if he sustains serious damage . The man's really something else.🙌💪💪👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
I love that you actually listed his war crimes, best outro a review of this game could have
One thing that the younger generations certainly missed with these kinda games, as well as the rise of the 3d generation of games in the mid 90s to the smoother 3d graphics of the PS2 era is the hype you build up with friends.
Everyone knows that Snake's final duel with his mentor The Boss was fought with honour...by which I mean Snake -cheaply- tactically & honourably sniped her from distance whilst crouching in snow camo. 👀😂
Love this video. To see Metal Gear content creators in 2022 makes me happy asf. Motivates me to make content💯
The one flaw with this game is all the time spent in menus. Healing wounds, eating, selecting gear, changing clothes. Every 50ft you need to enter a menu to change your camo to stay hidden.

"$60 to the gamestop clerk." Oh you poor kids, back in those days brand new games were only $50 and you weren't expected to buy a half completed game at full price and then pay for the rest later.
I like how in gta you can play the game after completing it with side mission and it's always something I wanted with the mgs series especially with 3 I just wanted to freely run around the jungle and use all weapons and climb all the trees I can

Great video, one of the best games and experience to any gamer wanting to play. The pain still gives me nightmares
Heh, 3 and 4 are my personal favorites, and I've only played the Subsistence version of 3, with the camera view you're using in this. That was SUCH a game changer for me, and just made me fall in love so hard with 3 getting to actually look around at everything.
I was 12 when this came out. I feel old.
Actually here a enormous piece is missing : the thousands of soldiers being ambushed in the jungle by countless method like being thrown a venomous snake in the face, mine explosionm sniper, cqc, been starved to death due to explosion in the canteen so when you leave food on the floor it's chrismas for these guys and they make a run for it, not to mention the ammunition depot too suffered explosion so even if the spot you they don't have any bullets haha this game is atrocious for the other side and that is absolutely brilliant... i remember feeling my heartbeats when i was laying in high grass with an ennemy squad one foot away looking for me with ak and shotguns... damn i felt smart^^

Legit was debating if I wanted a psvita so I can play MGS3 again but ended up just emulating it on my steam deck. Still one of my most favorite game especially with the unlockables.
WOAHHHH THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!! almost as awesome as the yuotube channel Bigdea!!!

My fav game of all time. Was in 4th grade & so I’m love w the game I would read the booklet in class.I would spend days in basement with my ign & tips & tricks about this game. Just playing parts I have and finding random shit to eat etc..What’s wild is how little wasn’t discovered in both those magazines. I think one of my most memorable gaming moments of all time was being locked up in russia and the game launchs you into a “dream” that’s really just a hack & slash demo for a game they ended up canceling.I don’t think I’ve ever more more confused, yet intrigued in gaming and prob won’t be again. Funny part is I found out that sequence is completely optional and I have no idea how I even launched it.
I like how u ended the video with music from Twilight Princess
My favorite game was Metal Gear Solid, until Metal Gear Solid 3 came out. And then a few weeks later I got GTA San Andreas and it left both of those games in the dust.

You left out how if you get to the end of The Sorrows fight, youll find his body.
Now this is a game that needs a deep remake
reasons why mgs3 good Has monke mode. Has banan suit. Has monke mask.
The ladder section. If you use The Ends camp which restores stamina in sunlight. It will restore when you’re in the parts in light. I know in 2022 lighting engines are standard. But 2004, most games just painted the walls lighter to make it look like light.

it is. wasn't quite as good as mgs2, but the ending was really aesthetically beautiful, the plot was obviously another MGS game, and the gameplay mechanics were basically MGS2+
I won't lie, The Boss fight is easy as shit if you use lethal weapons. The sniper absolutely demolishes her health. Whenever I fight her, I intentionally go non lethally so I get to hear Snake Eater.
