@@angelapagee2610 sure, I eat from 7a-11a and then I fast rest of day. I drink coffee and water rest of day. But I will go 12 of those hours water only for my gut biome. And then I do a true 24-48hr fast each week where it will be water and coffee only. This seems to work very well for me but not everyone. I do follow my own 80/20 rule where I triy to eat perfect 80% of the time and then the other 20% I eat the things I'm really desire. I'm only human, and that has helped me a lot to stay consistent. Hope this makes sense.

I too had so many questions at the beginning. But it's really so simple. I found that understanding what happens in your body when you eat and then fast made so much sense and it became easy to follow. I would recommend reading his book The Obesity Code. It explains it so well. I remember thinking "No wonder my dieting never worked before!". Also if you watch some of his interviews with other doctors, the one with Eric Berg is good and The Diet Doctor, Dr. Bret Scher. They ask him great questions and I learned a lot. Best of luck to you! Be well 😊🙏

I don't eat sugar, and limit all carbohydrates, including only complex carbohydrates in my diet. In my case it makes no difference, still have metabolic syndrome, never lose weight, lipids poorly controlled by medications, as did my Grandmother, my Aunts, my Great Grandmother... our family has a rough time with this syndrome and changes in diet and exercise, medications, make little to no difference. This advice is great for those with normal range metabolisms, just not for those with inherited issues!

And the quickest way to reverse it is to do some extended fasting! The astounding benefits of fasting and a lower insulin whole diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data: Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release! Reflexes and short term memory are increased. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Fribrosis/scarring is reversed over time and telomeres are lengthened, which also helps with lung fibrosis. The hunger hormone ghrelin lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting. Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic. Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast, though if the amount is tiny you will go back into ketosis very quickly. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it and helps build muscle by increasing insulin sensitivity! Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS. The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, your body always runs mainly on fat except for brief periods of very intense exercise. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire immune system. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. Fasting reverses metabolic syndrome, which is tightly correlated to Chronic Fatiguque Syndrome, high blood pressurecancer and many other chronic diseases. Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Obesity is just one symptom of insulin resistance. Most, if not all, chronic disease comes from insulin resistance, and not everyone ends up with the same symptoms. Also, nationality may play a part. Dr. Ben Bikman talks about Indians and Asians having insulin resistance, but often not gaining weight like white Americans do. Just because someone doesn’t gain fat readily, doesn’t mean they’re not metabolically unhealthy and either experiencing other symptoms (autoimmune, allergies, skin conditions, IBD, HBP, diabetes type 2, M.S., alzheimers, heart disease, fatty liver, cancer, etc) or on their way to experiencing symptoms.

R2R, Dr. Fung has at least one video about exercising in a fasted state. He's also got related info in his book/audiobook from 2016, Complete Guide to Fasting. As for your eating window, not really something to worry about. Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full. I go anywhere from 24 - 60hrs with a fast, depending how I feel. HGH rises approximately 500% after 24hrs. Another good source of info is Dr. Sten Ekberg. Former Olympic decathlete who holds several records in many events, and knows his way around nutrition and how the body works. He's clear, concise, and it's easy to understand the information, regardless of topic. ✌️😎 Fun fact: Dr. Fung has written 8 books.

I wouldn´t watch a debate with Dr. Fung and Layne Norton. Norton has trashed Dr. Fung in other threads, with the last time being on Huberman´s IG page last week. Norton trashes virtually anyone who even slightly disagrees with him. He´s immature and doesn´t back up his words with good citations. He´s still insisting that seed oils are fine and when I mentioned to him that seed oils are rancid before they get to the store shelves, and that´s why they always have to bleach and deodorize them, he said that his data (which he never provided) was greater than my feelings. My husband worked for a company that had to install iron catwalks and staircases in a seed oil processing plant. The smell would cling to his clothes and was sickening, that´s why they deordorize it so we don´t gag when we use it. Norton gave zero citations to prove otherwise. Obviously, Dr. Fung can debate anyone he chooses, but I think he´d be wasting his time with that egotist. I´d love to see Layne Norton go up against Bart Kay (who Norton trashes on a regular basis, but won´t face him.)
