Another insightful review - I've been waiting patiently for this one. Interesting to see different frequency ranges on this para as compared to the Walkabout. The 12k upper limit on the top band of the Walkabout always makes me say "Huh???". 5k on the WD is much more realistic. I LOVE the HP Filter on the D800+, and am glad to see it here. I hope it becomes a regular feature on future Mesa models, as it makes so much sense for both cab protection and tone-shaping. Bravo once again, Ivan! You're doing the best amp reviews/demos on KZread, hands down.

Thanks for actually going THROUGH THE EQ section, with the same style and same riff, to hear how the individual pieces sound alone, and interacting with the others. So many 'reviews' just throw on a preset and play slap/pick/finger as it changes, which is tonally totally different when the attack and styles change. Good job! Plan to get one of these asap.

By the way, if you can try the amps before buying, see if you can get your hands on the new TT800 and compare both :)

Ivan great review brother, about to pick this up and currently own the D800+ and your thoughts are echoed by many players who owned the D800+ and stepped up to the WD. They say they were fine and wouldn’t have ever wanted anything more, but once they played the WD, they couldn’t “unhear” that. Thx again for a great demo. Subscribed brotha.

I found that part of the video, and your comment very interesting. I am trying to decide on a Class D bass head in the coming months; I have never owned one before and have only been playing through combos for recording, live, etc. It probably is hard to describe without my having played either the D-800 or the WD-800, but this is the kind of input you don't find on official product release videos!

Just recently got mines 2 days ago over the weekend , best amp I've ever plugged into hands down ! Great video by the way ! I'm still having some confusion on how to use the parametrics on this monster lol I just leave them flat for now 😅

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the amp! Try heavily boosting one of the mid frequencies and then rotate de frequency knob to hear what the boost is doing to that particular frequency and your overall sound. Then cut back to taste :)

SOLD !! ... I am definitely getting a mesa WD Subway 800 ... I think I am going to pair it with Subway 210 & Subway 115 cabinets. very good & informative video.

I will,.... I'm shooting for June when I will get the WD Subway 800

It seems like no matter what knobs you turn theres a bunch of fret noise. it appears to be very good at capturing fret noise.

Ordering mine next month, can't wait!!. I have an M6 carbine, Love it!!. Great demo and can't wait to see the shootout between this and the other current mesa heads.

pufifa Trying out an M6 was what convinced me to get a Mesa amp. If i’m not mistaken the D-800 and D-800 Plus are voiced similarly as the Carbine series. This one has the Walkabout flavor. I used to own the D-800+ and sold it because i like the tone and feel of the WD better. There’s a a comparison vid between both amps and also a review of the D-800+ on my channel, too. Hope this helps!

@@pufifa Sup! It all boils down to your preference. If you were head over heels in love with your carbine, the WD800, while a fabulous amp and a reboot of the old walkabout amps, might not be your cup of tea because it wasn't for me. The carbine and walkabouts have great tone but very different feels to them. And agreeing with brother Ivan, the d800 series are going to be a lot closer to the carbine, granted not exactly the same, That's more of a class AB power vs Class D power type deal. I've personally tested my basses and cabs with the d800, not the plus, and preamp wise, almost the same (the carbine has a tube). Power amp wise, the carbine naturally will have more aggression, but that's not saying the d800 was a slouch....twas extremely loud. So yea, in a nutshell, if you can't try before you buy, if the carbine was your true love, stick with the d800 amps.

I think this high pass filter is pretty close to an Ampeg five position control knob. The difference is this is a sweep control rather than five preset positions. Not sure if the sweep is better or not since it's hard to hear much difference; to hear a different tone you end up moving this knob several degrees each time anyway.

Are you talking about the Ampeg 5 position mid frequency selector? If so, this HPF knob is a different thing entirely and in no way similar.

I've seen a couple reviews of this amp and I've convinced the bass knob doesn't do anything. I don't hear any difference when you move it.

Cord Scott it certainly adds thickness to the sound. The guys over at Mesa designed it perfectly in my opinion. I can crank it all the way & the sound doesnt get muddy or undefined. Try listening with headphones or good speakers/monitors

@@IvanBassist Thanks. I listened to it through my Seinhieser hd 280 which are decent head phones. Also some Audio Technicas. I'm a d800+ owner and I know the bass control works well on that amp.

Trust me, IT DOES. The real magic happens with the mid-range knobs. She's a little monster.

Add mids and high mids to this and it wont be so muddy.

@jdssurf it’s 800w. It’s definitely plenty loud and it can be set to 2 Ohm, which means you can connect it to 4(!) 8ohm cabinets. If that is not loud enough, nothing else will be.

Mesa Boogie Walkabout has better sound than WD-800, A/B class is more naturally than D class... I tried both and this is my opinion

@@IvanBassist The WD-800 is a great amp, one of the top D-class, the sound is good for the D-class if you compare it to others D-class amp. The Mesa WD-800 has good balanced sound. I can't say anything bad for this amp .... only WA has a more natural sound, but that's my opinion
