MERCYFUL FATE on their first U.S. show in 23 YEARS at PSYCHO LAS VEGAS 2022
Музыка
Knotfest's Daniel Dekay talks to King Diamond of Mercyful Fate in an exclusive interview at Psycho Las Vegas 2022, where the band played their first show on U.S. soil in 23 years. King explains how this is not a reunion, rather just picking up where they left off. He also discusses the legacy of late bassist Timi Hansen, writing for new Mercyful Fate and King Diamond albums, the upcoming 40 year anniversary of Fate's Melissa and how it feels to see it still making new fans, and the band's brand new stage production and outfits.

King is hyped right now. Interviewer can hardly get a question in. Love his enthusiasm 40 plus years into his career.
This man is the reason I'm a metalhead. Heard don't break the oath when I was 14, rewound the first 30 seconds of a dangerous meeting about 59 times just to hear his voice because it was such a new thing to me. I was hooked after that, stole a satanic bible the next day and the rest is history.
King Diamond and Mercyful Fate are two of my favorite bands, since the mid-80's. Every song, every album fukking rules!! R.I.P. Timi Hansen. Long live the King!!
This was an incredible show. We were all singing along, so much energy. Loved every second it. Cannot wait for the US tour.

I still have the first ep, Melissa, don't break the oath, I'm watching this interview and I literally have chills. yes I'm A relic at 56 years old, but God damn it thank you for the video!!! I was feeling very under the weather this morning, this definitely boosted my spirits! \m/
It's wonderful to hear King Diamond (Kim) talk to us in this interview, because he shows how he is just like us. That is, he is another human being just like we are, but just so happens to be the literal king of music, singing, theater, and a master of incorporating ancient lore, legends, occult and magic into his art. It's amazing to see King's transformation, that is, his new black crown, and specially made coat, and other masks. That came as a massive surprise to me. It was unexpected. It's not what you would think, but it is. But as I stated earlier, in this interview it's great to just hear King talk to all the fans out there, and show he's just like one of us. Even when the interviewer asks King about "a bone collection," King completely ignores the questions, and instead talks about his cars, etc. The interviewer asks again, and King ignores him every time. King Diamond isn't some guy who keeps a collection of human skeletons and bones all over his house. This is a guy with a wife and a child who is super smart, super talented, and is actually very humble for what he has accomplished. Cheers to King Diamond, and thank you for helping me make it through this life, giving me something worth living for, music that touches my soul, and musical lore that has taught me. "I love you Satan!" - "Where are Lucifer's Children?" - At one concert King Diamond handed out "Rose Petals and Pure Love," and King sings of "The House On The Hill The Great Numerical Proof," and King knows, "Halloween is the Day," at King's concerts he knows how to, "Light Up the Dark World,"
I was at the show and the vibe was super intense the audience was loud as fuck! The band was legendary - my 4th time seing Mercy -legendary - so glad I was able to be there. Great interview!
King really didn't wanna talk about the bones haha. perhaps the theft of the original "melissa" is a touchy subject?

@@TheNotoriousSAJ75 He had a human skull he would bring out on stage that was named Melissa. It was stolen at some point in the 80s. *sorry for answering the question! There may be more to it..

There's a lot more to it. Melissa was kings sister that died. King is well known to have an extensive collection of human bones, most of which are highly illegal to possess. It's no wonder he doesn't want to talk about his corpse collection which he keeps on his home in Texas, where he moved to from Copenhagen Denmark, where he was born. It was not his sister's skull which went missing, and he does not possess her remains as rumored. The skull was however obtained illegally and isn't a topic of discussion when king can help it. It may or may not have been evidence in a later forensic investigation which led to several individuals being charged with various crimes such as murder, gross abuse of a corpse, disturbing human remains, and a few others for good measure. . King may or may not have claimed to have thought it was a fake, despite having had it tested for authenticity prior to it's purchase. So yeah, let's not talk about that lol

Hello, thanks for the interview. I am curious about what is going on inside the Mercyful Fate camp. Despite the flooding in Dallas, I really hope that the upcoming U.S. tour is in full swing within the month, I hope that the band plays in TULSA, OKLAHOMA for the Mercyful Fate tour and then turns around and visits us in TULSA once more with his King Diamond solo tour ( IT HAS BEEN AN AMAZING 40 YEARS of music)

What would be more amazing is have him perform at The Vatican or even at one of Joel Osteen's televised sermons? The Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas?? Maybe, too, in Salt Lake City...At the Mormon Tabernacle? If he manages to get a gig at Medina in Saudi Arabia I too might even join the Cult of King Diamond/Mercyful Fate. 🤣🤣
That was one of the greatest sets I've ever witnessed in my entire life. It was a once in a lifetime experience, cannot wait to have another chance to see them again!

Also : i really love how the bands from Europe are welcome in the USA and how they support the scene : thanks a lot guys, from Europe ( Italy )
King sounds really hyped up about the show. Love it.
RIP Timi. You can see how sad King still is about this. I think the King Diamond band should finish The Institute and have Livia doing some vocals as she has a great voice herself.
