I have a 2000 CLK 200 W 208 she has 235.000 km and she has no problem,the moter is new and also the chain does not have any noice to show that there is a problem. Probably the new MERCEDES after 2003 maybe after 2008 are not MERCEDES. Thank you my friend for the lesson you are really good and you helped me see that my decision to keep my MERCEDES till i die is a good decision.. My best wishes to you and beautifull Ireland from Greece.
Very very nice and clean job mate

3:10:30 I have the really long one put it down with the pan off, wrap some tape around the top near the edge of the dipstick. Then when I'm checking fluid I just don't stick the excess past the tape in there. I know its a bit Hillybilly but it works.

Dealerships can sit on big jobs for months where small operators worry about a few extra weeks. For example my car needed a new fuel rail (GDI) it was only available on backorder witg a 3 month wait. For all that time there were a few on eBay for 50 pounds.

2:32:00 I use that method with some of the transmission seals i always cut the homemade tool. I have a seal installer thats much easier than the screwdriver. I will make a video and show it.

You can raise the bonnet to the vertical by pressing the little red button on the strut passenger side😁

I got quoted £2000 to £2200 from a Merc specialist in Nottingham, last year, ended up changing the tensioner, that pretty much stopped the nasty cold start rattle. These engines are well known for bad timing chains, and Mercedes did change the design of the tensioners,
And a question my engine model is blue tec 2014 2.2 . Is there any difference with this one ?

Well done to not loose your mind doing this job. You need to have a very positive mindset to do this kind of job. It is nice to see in this motor that they are not using the bicycle chain that is in the M271 engine. The early M271 engines seemed to have lubrication issues for the timing chain, often when I was replacing them, there was no oil on them. The lower chain (for oil pump and balance shaft if memory serves), that I never had to replace, was always lubricated. That one was probably supposed to carry the oil from the sump and bring it to the crankshaft sprocket where it was supposed to flow, bleed, leak or splash onto the timing chain. But if the sump was not full of oil (but still between the upper and lower limits) this was not happening or at least the amount of oil carried decreased with decreasing oil level in the sump. The problem seemed to disappear with later models. We cut the old chain and dragged the new one in. You could access everything you needed to replace without even without lifting the car but the job was a little bit easier if the car was lifted. The worst case I came across had a timing chain that was so worn that you could make a circle out of it sideways if you know what I mean.

Nice.. I do a lot of Merc busses - first "hurdle" is always just getting the wheels off. Because "Bus" people get all excited tightening them as they're terrified a wheel will come off while the bus is full of nuns. There is nothing on earth harder to shift than a Merc bus wheelnut someone has overtightened to the Nth degree 2 years ago that now has to come off.. If the wheels come off, everything else is usually pretty straightforward. :-)

@@bodgitandleggitgarage We have a 9' ally tube we use on the breaker bar for Merc & Iveco wheel-nuts. 1 of 2 things happens - there's a massive bang & the nut opened but your hands also just experienced off-the-scale levels of "Jasus that hurt!!!" or there's a massive bang & the breaker bar just joined the long congregation of breaker bars that went to breaker-bar heaven.. plus yer hands hurt.. but the nut didn't shift.. then you have to drag in the 1" air-wrench & hope the nut surrenders before the wrench breaks both your arms/twirls you round like a rag doll/the nuts head shears off, fixing the "Get the wheel off" issue but leaving you with a "Get the busted bit out, Smarty pants" Issue... It's always Fun. :-) Ish.

Was all going well until the rear seal, PTFE seals need a fitting tool to ease them over the crank palm, the pumping feature damages very easily, cannot believe you eased it in with a screwdriver. PTFE is siff at room temperature, good practice to heat the seal up with a hairdryer Yes I do know what I'm talking about worked in oil seal development for over 30 years

Like everything there's more than one way to skin a cat this vehicle was done a long time ago absolutely perfect still yes there is correct tools for the job doesn't mean you need them I did absolutely no Damage
the hoist control left alot to be desired!
Modern cars should be treated more !like aircraft with major services that often cost more than the value of the pre serviced aircraft. So once the service is done its value is increased by the cost of the service.

You do know that the cam sprockets are supposed to be tightened up in a jig off the engine?
@mickymac6571
Жыл бұрын
Why is that?.
@johnmorton5498
Жыл бұрын
@@mickymac6571 because the locking tools can break. There's locking tools to lock the cams in place, you fit the new chain and sprockets, fit the tensioner and tighten to the first spec (55nm) remove the cams and fit the next tool that holds them in a vice and then apply the angle torque, refit the cams and tensioner.

Fatto venire il mal di testa.balli troppo con telecamera.
That chains a crap design Leon - no way is having that much slack sensible before the guide goes on - the guide is doing far too much work, taking waay too much load from the chain. Brutal design tbh. It ought have a much more direct path. Great vid btw.
