Mercedes Has ZERO CLUE About Fixing This MASSIVE ISSUE!

Mercedes’ Australian Grand Prix was one of their worst races in a very long time. It wasn’t just that they scored no points thanks to the double retirement, though that was definitely far from ideal. Even before then, things had been going pretty awfully for the team. Hamilton had finished second slowest in FP2 due to car trouble and then when qualifying came around the next day, he exited in Q2, only managing 11th on the grid. George Russell’s 7th wasn’t much better, over 8 tenths of a second slower than pole sitter Max Verstappen. On race day, the pain continued. Hamilton chose to start on the soft tyre in an attempt to take positions early but he could only pass Fernando Alonso who had started on the hards before he had to pit and get rid of his quickly dying tyres. When his engine eventually died on lap 17, he was exactly where he started the race, sitting in 11th place. It was a similar story for George Russell who by lap 57, found himself exactly where he started, in 7th position but in reality, a position down due to Max Verstappen's retirement. His desperation to get past Fernando Alonso saw him repeat the mistake he made at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix, wasting points with an error that the FIA blamed on Alonso but was all Russells. Today I’m going to talk about the massive problem from Melbourne that Mercedes have no idea how to fix and the effect their awful start to the season is having on Hamilton and Wolff, so don’t go anywhere.

"... which the FIA blamed on Alonso, but was George all over" - wow, a journalist with actual balls that speaks the truth. You have a like from me.

George can't handle the pressure. He thinks he is a lot better than he really is and he is trying to prove himself to Toto and the team

100% agree on the Russell crash, it was completely the Englishman's fault. For starters, without all these trackers and analytics software, nobody would have noticed that Alonso braked earlier than usual, and on the other hand, the Spaniard didn't slam on the brakes to force Russell out, he was just trying to get a better exit to prevent him from overtaking him. That penalty is just ridiculous!

I'm amazed they didn't penalize norris in singapore following their logic for alonso's penalty

Since 2022... their major problem is the floor... everyone was calling the "zeropods" as the problem and it is not... the "zeropod" is a winner...

Just goes to show that when you can no longer just throw money at problems like they did before the cost cap they can't seemingly cope anymore.

It seems that F1 actually requires a simple driving style with special focus on optimising the basics and a carefully planned approach to racecraft innovation. If the car is sliding, that's indicative of a driving style that is not simple. This would also explain why bearman and lawson performed well because rookies will tend to keep things on the simpler side. Max verstappen has also said the reason he's so into sim racing is because there is a lot of focus on the basics.

Serios question; is Mercedes only hope to bring upgrades blindly and wait for a shot in the dark without understanding their current platform?!

Problem with Mercedes is that their rear end is unstable due to the 2022 new wings and it is fixable but, they are placing ZERO effort into innovative ways to recoup the rear downforce, whilst the likes of Red Bull, Ferrari and AM are developing things on the body work of the chassis! Imagine a team like Mercedes found the DAS system when it never was a thing, but can't find anything to just gain a little downforce on the rear tyres, of course they can, they probably have but aren't using it. Reminds of 2010 when McLaren fully developed the KER system, but used the elbow Blow hole instead, they said for the sake of the competition.

Weird how no one notices or talks about how since late last season, hamilton has fallen backwards into midpack fighung for 10th to 15th with stroll and tsunoda as his closest competition, and how Russel has been fighting top 5 for podiums sometimes and way ahead of hamilton. Lance stroll is beating hamilton in the season and tsunoda is right behind him, he is falling backwards in the filed and Russel is still competitive. 🤷🤣

It's the slitty hole in the nose above the bottom wing element - simples! It's a drag bucket that causes destabilising vortices at varying speeds and temperatures - the floor can't do it's job as expected.
