Glad someone agrees. Ford fusion has these and it's tough to hit anything while driving. Part of why I'm against touchscreens for all functions. I should be able to adjust basic functionality (Radio, climate, wipers, and lights) with physical buttons that can be easily felt while driving. ESPECIALLY wipers and lights. Touchscreen is cool, but needs button backups for critical functions, or perhaps a backup switch similar to the ford fusion (4 way pad with button in center and in dash control, maybe for less critical like radio and climate, allowing you to adjust volume and temp without excess buttons feeling cluttered, since the smooth touch screen feel seems to be the design of the day). I will say touch screens are cool initially, but having them everywhere sounds like a curse. For example, typing on a phone sucks compared to a proper keyboard, as you can feel individual buttons and thus I can touch type at 104 wpm, vs maybe 60 with swiping and it's inaccurate predictive text. It works for what it needs, but Senior year of highschool we were given ipads to do assignments on and writing papers that way was pure hell.

Wow! Finally get to see the E-Class category for the EQ Mercedes! Surprised though it is a fastback design, the entire rear hatch doesn't open up like the EQS, that's definitely affects the loading access due to the smaller opening if compare to the entire hatch opening design. Design-wise, front half looks quite identical to the EQS but rear half onwards, the design looks squished, especially the rear quarter glass and the rear overhang. Somehow its front nose looks sharper and more attractive than EQS. It doesn't look as cohesive or as smooth flowing as the EQS overall due to the "squished" rear half design. But anyhow, still a great looking car!

The comment is just completely nonsense and cheap especially from someone like Thomas who doesn't know to find his neutrality. I can understand he is biased on VW and Audi designs and claiming it is designed to suit more to Chinese is really absurd and idiotic. First of all clean looking and the models without too many feature lines like this one came first in Bentleys and Aston Martins. To some extent also the Rolls-Royces. So the more luxurious it claims, the lesser dramatic, seamless and flowing it becomes. I don't know a person like Thomas who has reviewed tons of cars can't understand this basic thing. @@aidan7936 lol the whole perspective of targeting a country's customer taste is okay but beyond that the looks and how hideous the taste of one whole country is a stereotypical view. Looks and taste are 'geschmacksache' and someone associating it with a whole country is stereotypical. You can argue about Mercedes and it's cars and you can even defend Thomas' view. But being stereotypical on a country's taste is just bad. Having lived in Europe for a decade I can endlessly quote stereotypical views on Europeans and Germans. But Thomas would just be able to shrug on such comments without smiling at them. Because he knows it is wrong and stereotypical and no one likes it. It's the same of Thomas' comments on this regarding taste and preferences.

There’s nothing wrong with it or with what Thomas said, he’s only giving his opinion and he knows that’s subjective. But what Thomas meant was completely different if it could be seen with magnifying lens. And it has to be because he is an influencer on KZread and he has to hold his neutrality. Being stereotypical on tastes is to be forbidden. You can think about it. I can say Germans or Europeans have zero taste on colors or they like only grey and black or dull uninteresting colors. Then I would see some reactions from Europeans. Of course I would say that's my opinion on Europeans but would that go well with such people ? Question mark. Yes it's wrong calling out people on tastes. What market MB prefers is a different topic. And am not even entering into it. I hope you understand the difference. Great video Thomas! And the point at 5:04 is quite correct..I am from India and tbh here VW/skoda isn't as successful as in Europe, so they had this new India 2.0 project where they have launched a compact SUV (under both skoda and VW) and have included some design elements for the 'Indian taste' yet they still have that 'German' minimalistic look to it and I like it that way. I like the EQS a lot from Mercedes. It looks unlike anything we've seen out there from other manufacturers. Because of the bow shaped roofline, it is design over function for the rear passengers, especially in the EQE. I prefer a ground up EV like the EQS & EQE instead of using a regular ICE platform and converting it for the EV market. It makes the vehicle more efficient and better performing as an EV platform. Fun fact is Mercedes engineers contributed a lot of design input into Tesla's model S sedan and it's cool to see some of it returned back into the EQS and EQE with the annoying electromechanical door handles. Another great review Thomas.

My issue is with bloated doors and the weird location of the door handles. MB's decision on the front engine bay is also not my favorite. The interior material finish looks great, I agree that the conventional screen is much better.

Hopefully they'll make enough of them so the EU doesn't ding them for exceeding their fleet-wide CO2 emissions allowance... :P So far it doesn't appear that Mercedes has been that successful in the EV space, their first one, which one was that, EQC? I think I've seen ONE of those driving around in my city. Of course, this car is kind of lame, it's not very efficient, and has a very slow charging speed for a premium car. Then again, Merc isn't that popular a brand compared to other German premium brands over here; of the Germans I mostly see Audi and BMWs around town. A few Mercs, a few Porsches, but neither are particularly common. And, nearly all of them gassers, by the way. A couple years ago all the richie richs were buying Tesla Model S left and right, I saw one or two of them parked on every street in the better part of the town, but these days the richies have sold their Teslas and gone back to gassers by and large. I see a few Taycans actually, a few Teslas (no Plaid version spotted yet), not really any E-trons, and only a couple BMW i3s. Those mostly seem to be the wife's car by the way, sadly...

I loved the styling of the concept car and was already reaching for my checkbook. Though it is reminiscent of the original CLS, this iteration badly disappoints. The hyperscreen, however, is a game changer but again, it's a missed opportunity for full across the dash integrated instrumentation which would have been more exciting and useful.
