Mat has finally got his hands on the record-breaking Mercedes EQXX - and he’s going to find out just what it’s like to drive!
He’s joined the team at Mercedes’s private test track, and he’s going to see if he can match the performance & efficiency of the record-breaking EQXX as he performs a number of laps around their track.
You see, the EQXX is no ordinary electric car. It has a world record for driving the furthest distance on a single charge! In July 2022 it was driven from Stuttgart in Germany to Silverstone in the UK - over 1,200km!
So with that in mind, Mat had to find out if he could match that performance, so he's going to see just how efficient this one-of-a-kind EV is when he gets behind the wheel. But of course, that’s not all he has in mind - after all, this is a carwow review! So naturally, he’ll be testing its times over the standing quarter-mile!
So what do you think - will Mat match the Mercedes engineers' performance in the EQXX? And more importantly, is this one of the best-looking EVs you've ever seen?! Let us know in the comments!

This is a great project. I'm not a fan of EVs, but when affordable EVs, start to get decent range, they become a more desirable proposition. I think the next test should be to see how far the car goes in a more realistic drive. So: a bit faster overall, a few more hazards to make you brake unexpectedly, a few slow vehicles that you have to overtake, music on, air-con/heater on. Then see if you can get 700-800km out it. We know that driving the AMG like what I'm suggesting, you would be lucky to get 300!

It is interesting to see the techniques used. I'm doing similar things these days when not in a rush regarding coasting out of gear driving smooth and slower. My MPG is about 50% better than when driving aggressively. It's an impressive difference.

8:00 i'm from the netherlands but i actually agree with Mat here. When you're waiting at a roundabout it sometimes is not possible see the indicator light of a car, at least not early. So you end up waiting for a car because you don't know if it will go of then last second you can see it's indicator and you waited for nothing. I always put my indicator to the left on a roundabout until i go off.
Cool video, fun and informative. What he meant at the end was that drag at high speeds is a quadratic equation. Meaning that for example from 90kmh to 120kmh you get approx twice the drag. Thus on the EQE achieving a little bit higher speed means a lot higher drag and consumption.
Amazing car and brilliant video. It’s great to see this type of video with the engineers of the car

When taken to production the car won't use 3d printing unless they plan to only make a small amount, it will also be very expensive. If they want to make more they will make it more conventional which will make it heavier and less efficient. This will also be the case if they want more power.

@@youngspen I agree with your centement but 3D printing cannot make or do better quality parts than "conventional" methods. 3D printing is in my opinion how you cheaply make the very first one, the prototype, then you get the rest made by mould or machined out of better materials by better methods. 3D printing is a very good way to make something that is low volume or bespoke as long as you can make it sturdy enough for the job. So in that respect I agree.
@youngspen
Жыл бұрын
@@bigduphusaj162 I agree, but it depends on the requirements, If they can use 3d printing to also account for safety then you can make a car better than conventional means, look at the safety of formula 1 they use alot of custom 3 d parts. However this will have a negative effect due to cost, time and manufacturing, the line is not set up to work with 3d printing. It depends on cost which will be reflected in the purchase price. Therefore they will go conventional and efficiency will be similar to Tesla for twice the price.
@bigduphusaj162

@@youngspen yeh but that's like I'm saying its for F1 so think about it, the criteria is likely this> Keep a spare of everything but make a new one when we use one. Can we make a new one quickly on site and make adjustments on the design quickly incase we need to correct something or if we need to make modifications to suit. How close to the action can we do this and what levels of success rate are we getting reliability wise if we've done our maths right and all the stresses it wil etc are well calculated. You best believe that if they had to print out a part on the spot that turned out to work good in the race, they would then make it back at base by the best method available and it wouldn't be a printer. For stuff like F1 intakes and the likes then yeah 3D printing is capable of doing that for fun and that's your final product as long as its a part known for not throwing up issues if its not built perfectly. You won't beat machining bare material blocks though, if you can then you haven't got the best machines, it's that simple.

Bring this to market please!!! It looks amazing, it performs amazingly well, and I'm sure it will sell equally well.
This new Mercedes-Benz EQXX is absolutely insane! The range and efficiency of this Mercedes-Benz EQXX is unbelievably insane! I love this new Mercedes-Benz EQXX!

Very interesting video. And I liked the the maths about the drag. Thanks.
Do you use one of these in your testing? Yeah always but their calibrated....a bit more thorough. LOVE CARWOW!! Thank you Matt Watson!
Been waiting for this 😍😍😍
This is exactly how I've been driving since fuel hit £2 a litre.
Matt! I love your puns and that EQXX looks absolutely amazing.
Immendingen Test Center and the EQXX ! Thanks Carwow to let us discover that masterpiece of engineering 🙏🏼
8:03 got me 😂😂😂😂
*This has to be the most german test drive in history.*
The back end of the EQXX reminds me a lot of the 64 Aston Martin DB5, great look !!!
13:40 the problem is the subframe will be very expensive to repair if damaged in an accident
I want Bjorn Nyland to try 1.000 km challenge with this! :)

It wouldn’t be very entertaining, just him driving some time, then coming home…
Wow, isn't that a car from Cyberpunk 2077? Herera Outlaw or something like that. Looks magnificent!
I think it looks so much better than the ”EQUS” or whatever its called on sale now. Also very interesting in that its the polar opposite to SUV’s. It has a small frontal area - this is the way forward.
the rear quarter view is just perfection. reminiscient of 30s avus race cars cars, delightfully retrofuturistic
"It's obvious the direction you're going to take in the round about isn't it?" - The most German thing I've heard all year.

Actually that was an example of German humor! Implying the British go in different directions. Hilarious!
Julian did a great job managing you. Really humorous and very German.
The guys from Mercedes are already really cool , but he is the the most relaxed and he is just as cool as a Ingenieure can be . 😊😊 I’d like to see him more in your videos . I think everyone is very happy about him . ❤❤❤😊
Julian is going to bomb London after that car ride with Matt
This car must go into production 🙏
An amazing exercise in efficiency. I’m not saying it’s the most practical of cars but if only more cars were built for & driven for efficiency, rather than grunt & top speed, (regardless of power source).
This guy, Julien, is really lovely and focused... Mat, you should not joke arround too much when the mission is this serious.
This is one of the best and one of my favourite Carwow video ever!
8:10 but it's also nice for the other people in and outside the roundabout to have an extra indication whether you're staying in the roundabout or not

People DO get an indication whether you're staying in the roundabout or not. If you use the indicators, you leave. Otherwise you stay.
Most car presenters don't appear to grasp the difference between kWh and kW. You mentioned that the solar roof produces 1kWh, which is wrong - it may have been a verbal slip on your part A Watt is a measure of POWER ( Energy per second), 1Joule per second, ie. ENERGY per sec. A kW is of course 1000 W. A kilowatt hour is the amount of ENERGY produced from 1 kW acting over 1 hour or 3600 sec. Thus, 1kWh = 1000 Joules x 3600 = 3.6 Mega Joules (MJ). Thus engine power or solar output from the roof is measured as kW while battery capacity or energy stored is measured in kWh.
Watson; Don't worry about indicating it when you're keeping in a roundabout! In Portugal we also do this!! It's really clear for everyone what are your intentions. Ofcorse there are always those who never use indicators at all... But yes! I agree with the Brits on that. It really makes traffic flow a lot easier. Cheers
