Exactly what I was thinking. If it's not bound to GT3 regulations (which basically define what a GT3 is supposed to be), it's not a GT3 car. It's based on one, though.

That's awesome!

They did change the front diffuser. Gtworld has a great video with Joules Gounon (the driver) giving an overview of the car. Also, pirellis are actually the standard tire for all SRO GT3 events, so it's probably the same tires as all the other cars at the race.

Hm, I'd say because this car doesn't adhere to GT3 rules, it is not a GT3 car and because the time wasn't set during a race, it isn't a lap record. So Shane van Gisbergen doesn't need to worry much :) Regardless, the lap was cool to watch and the car looked extremely stable.

Records don't need to be during a race, if you take a gt3 car and break the record, that's it

@@tichifrancetich8713 Both of you are correct actually. An unofficial record can be set whenever and with whatever cars. Official records have to be set during a racing event and using a car that's in line with spec for a given series :)

​@@tichifrancetich8713That is correct, but the car isn't GT3 since the air intake is unrestricted and the rear wing isn't to spec. They call it "GT3 unrestricted" but I call it "a publicity stunt."

Would love to hear your opinions on the Audi turbo runs at Talladega, and how the cars were updated, as another example of the Germans smashing records.

Love your videos! Can you talk about the aero of the Ford Electric supervan that Romain Dumas used to beat this car record one week later at Bathurst (it's the fastest closed wheel vehicle around there now) and did Pikes Peak too. The aero seems trick and red bull improved it from the run on Pikes Peak it seems but I don't understand it all.

I love these types of challenges from brands because they show the evolutions of what aerodynamicists would do. What left me cold was that the difference between the previous record and this one was only 2 seconds. Although I also say that the FIA ​​GT3s are not especially fast. I would think that an old DTM or a GT500 from Japan would destroy the current time.

Not a fan of moderns cars let alone current models, but this thing is pretty sexy.

I would be very curious to know how this compares to a GTE car !

This is a GT3 car in the same sense as I'm a marathon runner.

I'm willing to bet a derestricted 720s GT3 would mop the floor with the Mercedes without DRS

////AMG forever! Hopefully they take this AMG-GT3 beast to all the classic circuits like Nurburgring, Monza, Spa, La Sarthe etc. Am sure Mercedes can smash all the GT3 records...But maybe not GT1 records considering the likes of the mighty CLK-GTR

Im not fully convinced this is faster than the Mclaren 720 GT3X that raced at goodwood.

Nah for real, I agree. 2 seconds is a lot, but not when they were hyping up how it had DRS, an unrestricted engine and improved aero kit. They made it sound like it was going to be a baby GT500 car or something
