I purchased a Latex mattress 8-9 years ago and I really like it. I did this because I didn't want to sleep on off gassing product or add more petrochemical products to the landfill when the mattress was worn out. Another bonus is it has a 30 year guarantee. My understanding is mattresses are a high volume waste item in our landfills. I'd say the only down side is the bed is quite heavy and difficult for me to move (I've moved 3 times since I purchase it). It's quite spongy or bouncy, so I was worried it might be contributing to my night time leg cramps. I see now that it probably doesn't because it truly does support the body well. I appreciate your information. Thanks!

Latex needs some layers of Memory foam along with it to balance out the Buoyant nature of Latex.

i have a memory foam mattress and It was nice for a few years. now it’s a disaster, as they get even less capable of support as time rolls on. The mattress was main brand mattress and not cheap either. Thanks for your over 👍

The one question I have is about weight distribution over wider areas such as a body. There is a very big difference in small area such as a weight verses wide-area. Which offers more support?

Hello, Dr. Woods. I get allergic reactions like a sore and dry throat, a dry nose, burning eyes and impaired breathing from my pu foam mattress every time I use it. Could that be caused by all the chemicals inside that foam that you talked about?

I remember when I first realized that natural latex was best. It was unpleasant experience-I was researching to purchase my first foam mattress, and, at first, I didn't even remember that natural latex was an option¹, and I almost immediately became suspicious when every mention of them appeared to be written by anti-latex shills, whose remarks generally downplayed, or misrepresented the benefits of latex, while, at the same time, exaggerated the supposed downsides (although, after additional research, I learned that many of the supposed downsides of latex, which in many cases, were even more true for other foam options), and frequently mentioned latex's high price. While things like scarcity, high extraction, processing, or manufacturing costs, or a limited number of suppliers, might explain the supply-side, high market prices require consumers that are willing to pay that price. Unless the market was extremely small or demand, very inelastic (i.e., a change in price results in a relatively-small change in the quantity consumers purchase²), it would be hard to explain consumers paying these high prices instead of settling on cheaper substitutes (both other types of foam and spring, with the latter being a better approximation of latex in my experience), unless latex mattresses were actually so much more desirable, in the eyes of many, to justify spending significantly more money. Based on my research and experience, I ended up coming to the same conclusion, and if anyone has ever slept on a memory foam, or hybrid high-density / memory foam mattress, you should intuitively understand much of the difference, just by watching a video showing rebound between the two. Further, the memory foam / hybrid mattresses significantly limit your ability to bounce (imagine the difference between jumping on a trampoline vs jumping onto a soggy lawn after a heavy rain), which can seriously detract from enjoyment of certain activities, and generally make such activities much more exhausting. ──────────────────────── 1. After having my memory triggered, though, I remembered that my grandparents' mattress and pillows were natural foam latex-we loved how they felt as little kids, and, as a result, constantly used them to build forts, 🙰 𝒄., which, sadly, often involved us removing chunks and eventually destroying them). 2. Inelastic demand can manifest for a variety of reasons, but, for example, demand for insulin is probably inelastic, because people with diabetes need a certain amount to survive, _ceteris paribus_ , and would likely forgo many opportunity costs to continue being able to purchase at a higher price, assuming the cost of not purchasing would be hospitalization or death. Likewise, quantity-demanded from diabetics would likely not meaningfully increase in the event that a supplier improved efficiency and was able to provide insulin at a lower price (though, that supplier may gain market share at the expense of other suppliers still charging the higher price).

What should I consider when buying a suitable latex pillow ? Your Dream Pillow seems great but it's too costly for me as euro in my country is 4 times more expensive than my currency. I need a more budget solution for now now.

I always recommend latex. We've done a lot of tests and it always comes out on top for comfort, support, resiliency and overall satisfaction. Even though a standard latex pillow will not have our signature design, it will still be way better than most other products out there. If choosing between Talalay vs Dunlop latex, we found that Talalay works best. Make sure that it is natural latex. - Dr. Lawrence Woods

If you just have a minor allergy that causes just skin irritation then you could buy a latex bed anyways since the cover layer you sleep on isn't latex. But of course ask your doctor before going ahead with a purchase.
