    Great video! I'm looking at stepping up to a full frame mirrorless and have been looking at the sony range. I'll definitely be checking the Meikon housings out, although 40m depth rating is a bit limiting for me. Thanks for the awesome review.

    Divers Ready thanks James. Yeah I tend to stick above 40m so this was good as a budget solution. I'd love to get the Nauticam housing but... Expensive! Sony have a great camera range. Not a great battery life but ok for a dive under 1 hour.

    How does this work with video? Does the auto focus work? Also, can you manually focus? Great review!

    Thanks Zac. Auto focus works but there is no manual focus. If you're doing video set it to auto continuous focus. Not the best solution if you're trying to do high end video. For that you would need a significantly more expensive system. Great as a budget option. I thought it works great on the video I use it for. Let me know if you have other specific questions.

    Contemplating the purchase for my A7ii, since my SeaLife DC2000 rig came off my spiral cable during a lake dive :( ... After doing several frustrating search dives and spending money on an underwater metal detector, I'm starting to see positive buoyancy in a different light. How has the housing held up so far for you?

    It's been good. I'd love to splash out on a Nauticam housing but for the price I've been surprised at how good it is. As for positive buoyancy I try to neutralise as best possible. But I guess you can set it up however works best for you.

    If I have a 35mm lens that's 1.3" long, could I use that with the dome port housing? It's the Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 lens

    If I may ask , What is the point of having it so balanced? Unless he plans to let it go and have it just float there? Most of the time you are holding it and aiming correct ?

  • @WaterlineShorts

    @WaterlineShorts

    Ooh yes, great question. It mostly has to do with light. You want to have the shutter open long enough to get the most light but short enough to not have any motion blur. If you have a perfectly balanced setup then you have one less thing to worry about pulling the image out and creating motion blur.

    And also you may be waiting on a great photo just when a fish comes into a particular frame of shot. If you have to hold it steady and control your own buoyancy it can throw off your shot. Of course you will get away with it if you aren't balanced correctly but it's just the finesse.

    Hi there, I want to ask, how's the weight underwater with just the Base housing (not with dome), A7S2, and FE28-70?

  • @WaterlineShorts

    @WaterlineShorts

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's slightly negative. If you want perfect balance you might need floats.

    @@WaterlineShorts Thanks a lot, With 2 light around 330g under water, And a tray 650g above water (maybe around 500g under water). and a bit more to negate the base. and lens weight difference 130g. I'd probably need around 1.3-1.4kg ish. It's hard to judge when you don't know weight of some parts from ebay listing.

  • @WaterlineShorts

    @WaterlineShorts

    @@rtbear674 I get that. I had to go through a process to find the right weight distribution. Will be the same process for all different housings. As you change the setup it will need further adjustment. I thought I would need about 1KG weight. Turned out I needed around 350gms. Just have to get it in the water and work through it.

    @@WaterlineShorts Finally got my rig. And need between 770g/920g to 870g/1020g floats depends on the lens and extension arm So now at buoyancy arm choices A) Perfect buoyant 1x400g + 1x600g + zipties and fishing lead weights on 1 side if needed. B) Simplicity 1x800g. well, from around +30 to -200g. Well 1 phone's weight is pretty much 180-200g. Do you think that 200g will make much difference in a dive?

  • @WaterlineShorts

    @WaterlineShorts

    4 жыл бұрын

    Awesome, happy diving. I would definitely aim for perfect buoyancy. 200g doesn't seem alot and won't make that much difference until you notice it. It will take a few dives and then that's all you will notice and it will drive you nuts. But keep in mind salt and fresh water have different buoyancy characteristics. So make sure you have set up for where you dive. Negative is sightly better than positive in my opinion.
