That's true, he does write very honest lyrics. I never really cared too much about his voice because megadeth is an instrumental band. He sings because a singer is needed, but the vocals aren't the point of their music.

Strong buildup, followed by one of the best transitions in all of metal, followed by one of the most headbangy riffs in all of metal, followed by a freight train obliterating you, followed by one of Dave's best solos, all in under 3minutes!! The "transitions" you love so much are a result of the songwriters use of phrasing. They construct a "phrase", the chorus, verse, section of a solo, whatever, and those are tied together through modulation, dynamics, time signature and other musical tools. Just giving you another piece of terminology to use. Black Sabbath, Van Halen....part of why they're so great is their great phrasing. It's awesome to see people experience and enjoy music! P.S. The drummer on this track, Chuck Behler, was a family friend when I was a kid. The first drumset I ever played was his.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned this yet, but this is the re-recorded version of the album made in the 2000s. They cut down the reverb in the sound, completely redid the guitars and also re-recorded the drum tracks. It may technically sound better, but the over the top 80s reverb of the original will always be my fave. If you guys have time off camera, have a listen to both versions. I think this one sounds more precise, but a little lifeless in comparison to the original.

I prefer melodic, melancholic metal songs like this, and this is probably the best of them. Its full of emotion, but it has faster, rougher parts too, with perfect transitions between them, and perfect solos. Its a symphony. A lot of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden songs are like this, maybe Rammstein to some extent, but Megadeth is something else. This song probably sounds best if listened too multiple times, while feeling down a bit.

For a “Free Thinkers” extra credit assignment you should watch the 1988 documentary “Decline of Western Civilization: part 2”. It explores the LA Metal scene of the 80s. Megadeth is prominently featured, as well as KISS, Poison, the late/great Lenny, Aerosmith, and many of the LA bands on the scene in that era. It’s very eye opening. You’ll also see the highs and lows of the rock & roll lifestyle.

Don't go around too much, George, this is a great Megadeth song, as amazing in every way, shape and form as any other Megadeth son. The emotional part of it, it's incredible; how it begins hard but soft (as Ryan said) at the same time and how it takes a faster and faster pace, then it ends on a "melt down face" way as you said it Megadeth is. I mean, the transitions the riffs, you name it. I know it's gonna be hard for you to "love" the song, but listen to it once more, as you said you would. As for Ryan, he just got the song, just that. It's just a beautiful song.

I have one suggestion to you guys,if you really want to enjoy and feel some fresh impression from another GREAT MEGADETH song wich is not so popular but it's goin to drive you high, than try to do ASHES IN YOUR MOUTH from Countdown to Extinction album. It will rip your hats off.... And also HIGH SPEED DIRTH of course
