Meg And Dia - Yellow Butterfly

Музыка

What the song is really about,
"It's about a mother, a friend of Dia, and her daughter at a river. The little girl loved the river and while her mum was distracted she got too close and she fell in.
Her mum tries to save her but can't.
Thus, each year after that on the same day the mother goes to visit that river.
She becomes depressed and suffers a car crash in attempt to end it all.
She survives but is suicidal, hence:
'Even though it scares me now, when I'm alone
but whem im with you, I'll be just fine
we can sit and talk about
butterflies.'
Yellow Butterfly is by Dia and her friend Ian.
They made it in July 2005.

When I was only nine, my best friend died. I heard about the news the next day at school. Everyone got called, and found out that night. But not me. She fell into the creek outside her house. It was her favorite place in the world. Now, I'm twelve, depressed, and waiting. I believe in a God and a Heaven and I believe she is safe and with God. Jesus, I love you Nicole, and I miss you and I prey, every night, that you are safe and in a better place up there then you were down here.

When I first heard this song YEARS AGO it made such an impact on me. This was the first song that ever made me so emotionally invested in something I had never experienced (a mother’s anguish at losing a child). Listening to this song now still gives me the same chills every time, but now it also has a whole bunch of nostalgia layered over it. I don’t mean it lightly when I say that this is and will probably always be one of my favorite songs for these reasons.

My grandson drowned, 2 years ago. He was almost 2. I just came across this song here. I sobbed and sobbed while listening to this. It was like ripping a bandage off of a wound. This song was oddly comforting to me because it sums up the pain a Mother deals with after losing her child, and the self blame that follows in a way I have never seen elsewhere. As a grandmother, I suffer the loss of two because I lost a part of my daughter that day that I will never get back. I can't hug her pain away.

I lost my 2 year old nephew a few months ago. He drowned in a dam on his 88 acre farm. 10 hours of searching and we no longer have him with us. This songs makes me cry and remember every moment of that search and that frantic gut wrenching night. It is true... Our whole family has lost a piece of themselves with his passing and our only comfort is that his Daddy ha him safe in heaven while we wait to see him again.

When I was 19, I cried so hard to this song. Now, at 31, I am a mother and the depth and weight of the meaning of this song is truly unbelievable. I cried back then, but now it shakes me to the core. I still cry and can’t even sing along because my voice breaks. I can’t imagine losing my little girl. But, with all the songs Meg and Dia do about loved ones dying, have they lost people for real? Is this based on a real incident? I wouldn’t be surprised. If not, they are truly gifted.

My thoughts exactly. And from what I read it was based on a fictional story Dia wrote when she was 15, thank goodness. Her lyrics and emotions when she sings have always been raw and real, and I adore the hell out of her for it. She's truly underrated as well as Meg. They're both absolutely wonderful 💖
