Meet The Women Breaking Into The Boys Club Of Bronc Riding | Megyn Kelly TODAY

As part of Megyn Kelly’s “Grit” series, six female competitive saddle bronc riders share their experience breaking into a largely male-dominated sport. The women, who star in the new series "Cowgirls” on Ride TV, have to hold onto a 1,200 pound bucking horse for eight dangerous seconds. “There were a lot of guys who didn’t want us there,” one of the women tells Megyn Kelly.

So, I was born and raised around bronc riding. These horses are breed to buck. The Flank strap is only an irritant to encourage a harder ride. It isn't on tight. You don't need it to be tight. They buck because its what they do. Once they stop the bucking, with pro company's like TNT, they are retired to pasture or sold to normal everyday people. Its not animal cruelty. I've been all up in those stock pens and they horses are well fed and sassy. Now that's not saying all Stock companies are the same, but those professional ones take care of their own.

Other than the 8 second rule. Rules for women 'Bronc' riders are allowed to hold on with 'two hands. Whereas, the men are only allowed to hold on using a plain halter and 6 ft. braided rein. The other arm must be held above their head, and they must mark out leaving the chutes. And, women do not. Another difference is during the ride the men have to have both legs parallel to the horses shoulders. And, continue to keep their legs moving back and forth along that line to score points. The rider and horse are scored equally during the 8 second ride to get a qualified ride. To make the horse buck. A flank, or “bucking,” strap or rope is tightly cinched around the animals' abdomens, which causes them to “buck vigorously to try to rid themselves of the torment.

You are so incorrect. The rules don't change base on gender UNLESS it's the particular association's rules (which I do not know of any that differentiate). RANCH Bronc Riding is where you hold on with two hands and don't have to mark out. SADDLE Bronc Riding is where you hold onto the braided rein. Seems to me that these girls are riding Ranch Broncs and not Saddle Broncs.

Very thin interview, surprising for skilled journo (and attorney) Megyn Kelly. Is this a living for these women? With pay? Do they get paid per event, and if so only if they win or place? Tell us about it. How many women are able to earn a living, or earn anything, in this sport? A few details would help. Don't care about eyelashes (the fake ones look like caterpillars to me.) Next time, give is some deets -

It's the same with all roughstock events, don't ride you don't get paid. Also if you don't make a good enough ride, you don't get paid

This segment would have been better if you had them show you how they ride and if they got you on a horse. Even if not a bucking one. Would show viewers your relatable and human if you get down and dirty/more involved in some segments

I hate to say this but not all horses/broncs are taken care of as well as they are saying (ie getting their feet done, acupuncture and massages). I can list a few of the worst rodeos and I highly doubt they give a hoot about the horses, let alone any of the animals.
