I've had PTSD and depression for years. Now that I'm a mom I've claimed enough. When I'm down or feeling withdrawn I watch these videos. I like to think I get to let them live through me for the minutes these videos distract me. Then I remember how thankful I am to be a mom to a son that out wits me daily. I love soul pancake and other family stories. It beats TV and social media every day of the week because your experiencing some REAL ASS LIFE THROUGH REAL ASS PEOPLE. Let me just say I was attached to this man from the penis joke.

I have the distinct pleasure of meeting Shane and his father as well as his cousin at a conference in Wenatchee Washington a few years ago. I will say he is funny, intelligent, sarcastic and one of the most inspiring people I have ever had the privilege to meet. His dad was all of the above as well. I have been following him on social media ever since and cried my eyes out when he and Hannah finally had their beautiful wedding. He is an amazing person.

It's a positive feeling helping the ones you love no drug can compare. I have a special needs brother that I bathe, feed, change his clothes all of that hygiene stuff pretty much making sure he is happy healthy. it can get tiring at times but seeing him happy and smiling is awesome!!!!

Please don't say it's "inspirational". Shane (and Hannah) don't do amazingly crazy stuff, they just live a normal life, while Shane happens to be disabled. They do indeed put a smile on everyone's face, but you shouldn't be inspired by their story just because he's in a wheelchair. I guess the "dreams" you're talking about were like having a girlfriend, traveling, hold a KZread channel or talking to people maybe, but those are just dreams that every human can have and accomplish. I cried when he dad woke him and bathed him and dressed him for the day. It was love in action. A gentle loving act that is not a burden but a gift that his family receives every day. I’m am so deeply happy that this amazing young man is still alive and thriving and DID meet that young woman who didn’t care about the chair or the inabilities and just saw a guy who had other amazing abilities. And that she had the good sense to say, “ps, I think you’re cute.” ❤️❤️

I’m seeing this 7 years later. He is taking an injection that stops the deterioration of his muscles now. Yay!

He should inject Zolgensma. It's werry expensive but stopts definitly the problem. It's experimental but in my country we make donation for children with SMA1 to recive the treatment and be able to walk again and have a normal life.

Enjoy all the small things in life, because one day you will realise they where big things.

Hannah loves him because he is smart and funny and handsome and he takes care of her just as much as she takes care of him, just in different ways. They are perfect for eachother and a beautiful example of true love. You must really be insecure to judge them the way you do. Really sad. I feel sorry for you. Maybe watch their channel and you'll see how genuine and amazing their relationship is!

Anyone that has ever posted a video on KZread is an "attention seeker" because everyone hopes that a bunch of people will see their content. So the whole idea that you're calling them attention seekers in a derogatory way, on a website where the whole goal of it is to post videos that will reach as many people as possible, is actually one of the dumbest, most ignorant things I've seen in a while You're just ignorant. Shane's story is absolutely amazing, but I am so fascinated with hannah. She is so selfless and her heart is something I truly wish I had an ounce of. She loves so openly and is so positive, I don't understand, I've never met anybody like either of them. It makes me think so hard and just wish I was better. I can only imagine how nice of a woman Hannah's mom Is for raising her to be a perfect loving human. I've been raised with body and soul built into mind. She loves him for his soul. It's making me tear up just saying it. It's beautiful.

@@sabserab I dont think its that shes a "hero", but dedicating your life to what is essentially servitude and care taking, it is a life us able bodied people could not imagine willingly choosing. So when we see hanna doing it, who is so beautiful and could clearly have any man of her choosing- it is shocking that she would choose one that she would always have to take care of, as opposed to a man that could take care of her. Their love is shocking and a testament to true love!

Such an inspiring story. Brought me to tears. Shane’s outlook on life is amazing.

i cried while watching this video. i have Spina Bifida, where my spinal cord failed to develop completely when i was in my mother's womb, and so far this has no cure. i am SUPER blessed because most people who have this disease couldnt walk anymore and would end up on a wheelchair but I CAN WALK normally and nothing is wrong with me. i just have some handicaps that i can manage very well. i cried because i saw the love of Shane's family to him and the never ending support that they give to him. it's so much alike to my family, they never gave up on me despite of the hardships that they have to go through because of my disease. i am 18 years old right now. this video gives me hope. I have spina bifida too. And I can walk, talk, etc. Doctors told my parents to leave me at the hospital to die. I was one of the first babies in my country that got a surgery so I could live. I'm 25 now and most people meeting me for the first time dont even know or notice I'm disabled.

Hello all I am a muslim mum who have three children whom all have severe lifelong special needs, my eldest daughter is 10 she has global developmental delay severe learning and speech delay, my youngest daughter is 5 she has severe cerebral palsy affecting all her four limbs she in wheelchair and may never be able to walk and is tubefed and on 5-6 medications daily, my youngest son has severe low functioning autism and non verbal, life is hard and challenging but wort to see their smile, just hope one day hopefully they can all become as independent as they can be.

Watching this while knowing how great Shane is doing now makes me look at my last 2 1/2 years with severe burn out and sick leave so much more positively!!

I am happy he found Hannah tbh and seeing the love his family has for him as well is awesome! Growing up Autistic, Adhd and OCD, it wasn't easy not having family support and being seen as the black sheep. Seeing this kind of family, is the support I give my kids now and it is really a difference having love over just being...

My son has recently been diagnosed with Autism, OCD, and ADD. He has appointment next week to do more tests. His step dad doesn’t understand what he is going through and says I just baby him.

How did you deal with your autism? My son was finally diagnosed two years ago. He has add as well and Tourette’s. His autism thank God isn’t the worst he is in the lower part of the spectrum. He is like Sheldon on the Big Bang theory if you are familiar with that show? Anyways I have a couple of questions since it seems getting the correct help he needs is looking to be a joke. What is the best thing I can do for him to help him and let him know he isn’t different? He doesn’t know anyone else with this disorder why he feels so alone, singled out and different. I have tried finding a kid with the same diagnosis but haven’t so far.. The other question is .. what is the best help or program I need to get him into? That will help him the best. I appreciate any response thank you for even reading all this!🙏

@@angelanetherton8240 I have autism too and I love Sheldon..but I don't think Sheldon is on the lower part tbh. Before I lived with my fiance I have been living in a building with fellow autism people from low to really bad. Sure, Sheldon can speak normal, is smart and doesn't have autistic body movements but mentally wise in some ways hes pretty bad but then again I've also seen really different types of autism but eh. Each autist is different and some are more noticable than others but it's pretty noticable in Sheldon though. Also kudos to the actor, he's so good!

Sounds like you have depression. Shane does not seem to have depression. So that is a shitty thing that was handed to you and not him. Everyone has their own problems. Just because one person's problems seem worse does not mean you can not be sad or mad about what you were dealt in life.

If you’ve noticed everyone in his family and friend group is very positive and uplifting. He has a very healthy family dynamic which is crucial during adolescent years in developing this attitude. Yeah I’m sure who he is as a person plays in to it as well, but people don’t understand how important your family dynamic is during adolescent years. If your parents are negative and abusive chances are you’ll be the same bc you won’t know anything else...make sense?

I love watching this 7 years after it came out, knowing how far Shane has gone and where his is now and him being with Hannah. He is such an amazing person and has done more for people in his 28 years than most have in an entire lifetime. I wish him and Hannah the best.

Yes, they promote partnerships and sell Shane's books, but that's totally normal, almost every youtuber does it (especially when books and youtube are Shane's main source of income). But they don't ask for donations - I follow them for quite some time and I've never ever seen them asking for any money.

@Pitouli Whiff Insurance doesn't cover everything. Only a percentage. I have insurance too, but I still have to pay a shitton of copays and percentages, especially for anything emergency related... go do some research on how much a person usually ends up spending on a wheelchair bc insurance refuses to cover what they actually need. Look up how expensive it is to be disabled in America. It's a nightmare.

My oldest sibling is my brother Jamie. He has cerebral palsy. He can not do anything for himself. They said he would not live to see 20. Next February he will be 74. He doesn't dwell on his situation. He has the best sense of humor, he loves baseball and he too can't wait to get to heaven to play baseball. Our whole family has been blessed to have him in our lives. But he has always been included in everything we did as kids. The newspaper' s were hung on the back of his chair for delivering. We'd get ice from the ice house to take to the record shop for the pop machine and it was sat on his lap for the trip across the street, he'd laugh all the way. Unfortunately our dad died at an early age and had to go to live somewhere else cause he was getting to big for my mom and us to handle. But he is still included in our lives. He has his own friend's who take him out on the local bus transportation. He's a great role model and a great brother. I couldn't ask for a better one.

It is now 2019, and he still has a wonderful personality. I love following him and Hannah on KZread.

I work as a nursing assistant.....I soon learned that helping someone on the bathroom toilet etc...wiping their poop...well you get used to everything..believe me. I never think about it. Ant readers should realize the beauty of humans is we adapt. Humor is key for me.

His dad is wonderful and you can tell how much he loves his kids just by the way he talks about them 💕 him washing Shane’s hair made me tear up it was so sweet.

Ahh this is wonderful to watch. Shane was such a sweet young man back then and I love his family and friends. So incredibly happy he found Hannah she is just perfect and they botb deserves every bit of happiness. Xxx

Back then it was last days... they didn't have a treatment for SMA back then. The Spinraza treatment only came around about 3 or 4 years ago. He's now on a second type of medication since the Spinraza was so expensive and difficult to get, and a new oral medication was in trials.

Saw him on SBSK and this guy is too awesome for this world, he has a great sense of humor and look on life. He has a beautiful girlfriend too. He is living the good life and we all, disabled or not, could definitely learn something from him. "Everything is weak, except for my penis" That made me laugh more than it should have.

I ran across Shane a year? ago. His sense of self, emotional maturity and honesty are refreshing, and they provide a picture of what life as a disabled person can be. Bravo to Shane and all who support, encourage and show us such love.

When I saw his brother caring for him and talk about him, I thought of the line in that song, He ain't heavy... He's my brother. And then it all hit me. Such a touching story and this sweet young man has such a wonderful circle of family and friends around him. ❤️
