Medieval castles and ruins with medieval music

I always adored the middle ages, the castles and the ruins. This is only a short selection with some medieval music.

I've always loved to listen to music from the middle age. Most of my friends just twirl their head and look at me as if I deserve to be locked up. This is ten times better than that awful music I have the misfortune hearing where I live. This goes straight to my favorites. Wonderful pictures of castles as well. Splendid.

Beautiful video with impressive castles and music !! we particularly love the song starting at 2'54 : "Tant Que Vivray" by Claudin de Sermisy (c. 1490 - October 13, 1562), French composer of the Renaissance. Along with Clément Janequin he was one of the most renowned composers of French chansons in the early 16th century; in addition he was a significant composer of sacred music. His music was both influential on, and influenced by, contemporary Italian styles.

Originally Medieval music was monophonic but it did evolve. Harmony didn't just spring into existence at the onset of the Renaissance; such changes occur gradually. Presumably these pieces date from the late middle ages.

I adore Shakespeare; as for which society is "best," I have created a book set in a realm where it has a reasonable mixture of both our time and that of medieval/renaissance age. In my world of Overon, the cities look much like an olde world village. Much like the images shown here. But they also have some 21st century principles. Women and commoners are treated equally, the land is rich and fertile, the people live clean lives. If only I could make it a reality

Lots of these places are still very stable. The governments should restore even more of them! And this creates jobs in the villages! (Carpenters, wall painters, plasterers, stone masons, and gardeners, historical tour guides, etc.

@gajda1984 LOL; true, but when we think of the past, we always tend to romanticize it and focus on the aura, the emotions that get stirred inside, the mysteries of the unknown about that period, etc. Hasn't anyone ever asked you, "if you had a time machine, where would you go?" ^_^

@bagshitass Medieval music is modal, you'd have to be a musician to understand. Modal music has more of an oriental sound that is the western ear isn't used to, medieval music was greatly influenced by the music of the near east. Renaissance music uses more "western" sounding functional tonality, major minor scales for the most part.
