I've never encountered a song/music video that so nakedly confronts trauma from a male perspective. It's so emotional-- and not just about sex and relationships, which is rare. At 41, this songs hit differently. It's such a beautiful reflection in middle age on the experiences that shaped your character, both tragic and enthralling. God rest both Meat and Jim.

They did make some amazing creations, but honestly I hope they don't get back together, Jim was always jealous of how aday was being better recognised for the songs than him. There is an interview clip, of the band, and the interveiwer asks aday "what sort of genre would you class your music?" Aday, trying to be respectful says "ah ask jim about our music" Jim cuts in "well I would class MY music as...." I get they should be getting equal credit for their music, but Jim was a complete dick, even though aday always gave him the credit for it. He took out his problems on the guy who was trying to help him.

My best friend Mike saved me - the new, freckle-faced kid - from a life of solitude on the school playground in 1986. A few years later, they discovered his first brain tumor. He fought hard for 25 years. When I lost him in 2016, he had a wife, four kids and three Master’s degrees. He lived his life better than anyone I’ve ever known. And while he was a huge REM fan, this song makes me think about him and all of our good times. Rest easy, brother!

If you are bored with the hum-drum-same-ol-thing from the U.S. or the Western market of Music, I highly suggest looking into K-Pop. The bigger companies SPEND on production of MVs like you described. AMAZING, AMAZING stuff. Even if Pop is not your favorite genre, there are work-arounds. There is a Girl Group that is now known as 'The Face Of Rock In K-Pop', basically on the fringe so they are the Black Sheep of music in Korea. NOBODY else does it like they do to the point that they are basically their own genre now. Dreamcatcher makes music in every genre you can think of. They even have some Metal stuff (they don't do the Screamo or Metal Growls but the instrumentation is SICK and their vocals are amazing!). Every member brings it (there are seven awesome ladies to try to keep your eyes on). Hard to say 'no' to a group that can do just about everything. Their production just keeps getting better but they are from a smaller company. With their debut, they opened a dark, horror-based storyline that lasted seven title tracks, each attached to different albums or mini-albums or EPs. After that storyline was done, they moved on to tackle Social issues. Their B-sides are not necessarily Rock or Metal but they are great vocalists no matter what. They have a lullaby (which is actually called 'Lullaby', lol), they have some Rasta, they have some Country, of course have some Rap and they do covers of other group's songs from Western countries as well as from Korea. They are my fav group in all of music BECAUSE they do EVERYTHING, matching my eclectic musical taste plus when they have MVs, it's just like you described; Mini-Movies. But DC is not the only group who makes those Mini-Movies with all that great production. :)

This song has so much more meaning now that Meat is gone. It's like him reflecting on his life,he's young here, like it's him seeing his past and after going to the great beyond,a time traveler of sorts. I feel like this song and video after his passing is that much more powerful. This is his spirit, right here, young and happy, meloncholic but reflective and soon to be with his loved ones. Prophetic in a way. So long Meat, one of the greatest ever,be at peace and soon,we will all be objects in the rear view mirror...

They had a falling out after Bat Out of Hell, bur eventually patched things up and then did Bat Out oh Hell II. This is the first time I've seen the music video. The first part of the song always resonated with me (lyrically), as my best friend was killed (run over by a lorry while cycling) in 1994 when we were both 11. It was Christmas 1994 that we bought the cassette tape for my Dad. I soon ended up taking the tape from my Dad to listen to it as much as I could. Great album, great songwriting from the late Jim Steinmann and great performing from Meat Loaf.

The way he describes the father breaks my heart every time. “He was dangerous and drunk and defeated. Corroded by failure and envy and hate.” That’s not calling him a monster. That’s tragically pointing out how very real he is. Very humanistic and beautiful and sad. Listened to this song for the first time in years last night and had to watch the video today. I was in tears the entirety of my work commute listening to it.

It has that effect on me too. Lost my mom when I was 15, my best friend died at 38, which was 31 years ago. This song brings it all back as if it was yesterday. Brilliant lyrics and a flawless delivery.

I'm glad she found happiness...so sorry she had a rotten upbringing. Most animal mothers would let themselves be torn to pieces if necessary protecting their babies from predators. Human mothers turn a blind eye, shrug, and let predators into their homes and repeatedly maul their children. Sad, really...

Meatloaf's songs meant a lot to me growing up. Especially "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are". Now that's a long title :-) The song reminds me of my friend Steve that left life way too early. It was written and composed by a less infamous musician and songwriter, Jim Steinman. Meatloaf breathed so much life into the song. Songs are amazing... You can touch people and help them while you are alive even after you are gone... Not too many things are like that. Meatloaf is gone but his songs will live on for many years to come to touch new people and help them.

Chris, Meatloaf breathed life into it because it was HIS story of his violent abusive alcoholic father! “He’s behind me and he’s gaining ground” was what he felt his entire life but his massive talent still couldn’t be crushed! May he Rest Easy now ❤️

On the Dan rather interview (KZread). Meat Loaf was asked, what is the one thing that bothers him more than anything in the world. He responded when people type his name as one word. Good job 👌

I still start crying when I see the boy crash with the plane. It touches me so much. For me, this is Meat Loaf's best song. Deeply emotional and so sad, so tragic. And so tragic for all of us that we lost him.

I grew up with my family listening to Meat Loaf. When this album came out it was his comeback and I was a bit older, about 12 or 13. I remember this video coming out as a single to follow up “I’d do anything for love”. When I saw this video at the time I thought it seemed so dramatic and a bit over the top. This song is not one that plays too often so when I heard it the Other day I decided to watch the video, having these faint memories. What an absolute different impression it leaves on me today as a 41 year old man than as a 13 year old boy. The lyrics and video mean so much more. The losses of loved ones over the years, finding love, getting married, having beautiful wonderful children. All the hardships and all the good times. And all this is punctuated by the loss of the man himself who brought this song to life. This is for me, and I imagine many others, such an emotional song and brings me to tears. RIP Meat. Love your family and friends, and even though it’s hard to do every day, try to take tiny pauses to appreciate those we have. Rarely do we recognize the value of a moment until it has become a distant memory
