McLintock [1963] John Wayne - Full Movie English version

Фильм және анимация

George Washington McLintock, "GW" to friends and foes alike, is a cattle baron and the richest man in the territory. He anxiously awaits the return of his daughter Becky who has been away at school for the last two years. He's also surprised to see that his wife Katherine has also returned. She had left him some years before without really explaining what he had done, but she does make the point of saying that she's returned to take their daughter back to the State Capitol with her. GW is highly respected by everyone around him, including the farmers who are pouring into the territories with free grants of land and the Indians who are under threat of being relocated to another reservation. Between his wife, his headstrong daughter, the crooked land agent and the thieving government Indian agent, GW tries to keep the peace and do what is best for everyone.
Wealthy rancher G.W. McLintock uses his power and influence in the territory to keep the peace between farmers, ranchers, land-grabbers, Indians and corrupt government officials.
Director: Andrew V. McLaglen
Writer: James Edward Grant
Stars: John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Patrick Wayne

This is probably the easiest of all the John Wayne westerns to watch, clean and wholesome with quite a bit of old Hollywood humor to go along with it. The best scene, by far, has to be the mud fighting.

Me too. He's still one of my favorite actor all these years after his death. I loved him in nearly every movie he did, except McQ. I wasn't fond of that movie, mostly I guess because I always saw him as a Cowboy, which he played so well. I miss the time when we had clean movies with no realistic violence, no foul language and people kept their clothes on. And the comedy was pure clean fun like in this movie.

Seen this movie countless times. Here today trying to take my mind off of the recent death of my husband. Maybe that’s why I don’t think I’ve ever paid this much attention. I mean, I’m here because I knew this film would at least make me smile some & it did. But I don’t think I ever realized how EPIC this movie really is! Soo many cool & hilarious things happening all the time, sorta like several shows in one. Yes. Definitely helped.

OK, he only said that because he was jealous that he was not the one who kissed her. Stephanie Powers was also very good in that movie, and it was obvious that they would become engaged soon after he spanked her, and after he had kissed her for the first time. And the young couple also cheered when her mother got spanked, probably because they knew that it was necessary for the happy ending - and knew that a spanking could get a good result. Don't for get that - young girls and especially young men even today.

An interesting fact about his role in this film that's seldom mentioned is that in many ways it might have been seen as everything John Wayne disliked about the Boston Brahmin JFK in contrast to his fellow Republican Barry Goldwater whose Jewish frontier storekeeper ancestor seems to have been the model for the character of Nathan Birnbaum. Jerry's comment about how "reactionary is just something my generation calls your generation" is clearly a reflection of Wayne's discomfort with the somewhat superficially Marxist intellectual influences JFK's whiz kids had been infected with in college while his mastery of the latest fashions of frivolous pop culture show tunes seems to reflect all the glamorous Hollywood celebrity worship of JFK John Wayne saw as JFK's main appeal to his cult of rather superficial young female voters. Patrick Wayne's role as Dev seems of course in many ways to reflect what Wayne admired about JFK by contrast: hard working Irish Catholic immigrant, a willingness to take personal risks especially in opposition to racism and bullying. At the time the film came out in early November 1963 of course the reelection of JFK was not really certain given the closeness of his 1960 election victory over Nixon, the lingering anxiety over the Cuban missile crisis and the Bay of Pigs fiasco along with the hostility many had about JFK's support of the Civil Rights Movement. As an Eisenhower Republican John Wayne very probably made the film partly as a politically partisan message in support of Barry Goldwater which the assassination of JFK by a Communist a few weeks after the film's release of course rendered a wasted effort and virtually ensured the landslide election of LBJ. I personally have never thought much of any other role Jerry Van Dyke played but in this film I agree he was absolutely perfect for the part. It was unquestionably his best role.
