Notorious gunman Quirt Evans is wounded and on the run. He arrives at a Quaker farm owned by Thomas Worth and his family where he collapses from exhaustion. Evans asks Thomas and his daughter Penelope to drive him into town in their wagon in order to send an urgent telegram. The telegram contains a land claim and is sent to the land recorder's office. The Quaker family is ignoring the town doctor's advice to rid themselves of the gunfighter and they compassionately tend to the delirious Evans. Penny Worth becomes intrigued by his ravings of past loves. When Evans regains consciousness, Penny explains to him about the Quaker credo of non-violence and way of life. Three weeks later, two desperadoes, Laredo Stevens and Hondo Jeffries, ride into town looking for Evans.Penny's younger brother, Johnny, rushes home to inform Evans of his visitors and Evans prepares to flee. Penny, now smitten with Evans, offers to run off with him. Upon hearing the sound of approaching horses, Evans grabs his revolver and, to his horror, discovers that it has been emptied. His life is in serious danger.
Reviews:
"This is one of Wayne's best movies, the simple but powerful story of a man changing for the love of a woman. It is always a great introduction to John Wayne for someone who has not appreciated his work, his best movies are about love and redemption. The Quiet Man, Stagecoach and The Angel and The Badman, are among the best movies ever made." Written by John T.-3 on IMDb.com
"One of my all-time favorite movies and, in my opinion, one of the Duke's best. This one's got it all...comedy, drama, and redemption. Both the Duke and Gail Russell give fine lead performances supported by a colorful cast of characters. I highly recommend this movie to all." Written by mctoomey on IMDb.com
"The Angel and the Badman is one of my favorite John Wayne movies. It has romance as well as action in it and John Wayne handles both very well. As a macho-type guy, John Wayne plays Quirt Evans perfectly. He falls in love with a woman, Gail Russell, and just watching him play that part, one can truly enjoy Wayne's character, since he plays in very few love stories. However, this one is done very well and John and Gail together are perfectly matched. I have seen many John Wayne movies. Some of them I enjoyed very much and others I did not. But this movie, in my opinion, is one of John Wayne's best. He proves that he can handle a romantic role and any woman watching this film, I can honestly say, would love to be in John Wayne's arms. He's quite a kisser! Don't miss this film." Written by Matinelli on IMDb.com

I'm a huge John Wayne fan. This is one of his best movies. I am saddened when I watch this as I am reminded of the life of Gail Russell. This movie showed a side of her that I believe what was really inside her heart before Hollywood sunk it's claws into her. I am glad that she took on this role, and that we can remember her as the "Angel" that paid the price to tame a "Bad Man".

They filmed the movie from April, 1946 through July of 1946. THE ALL STAR CAST pulled this story together,,lead actors always get the praise as they should but the understudy actors like HARRY CAREY and OLIN HOWLAND the telegrapher, excellent portrayals of the locals, watched this over 20 times in 55 years, movie of innocence and fury and bible

Has anyone else noticed that the mother, who's the only one without a first name, is always putting her cooking/baking down? The only time she agrees with a compliment about her food is when she talked about her donuts winning first prize at the fair!!!😅❤

Tbe first time I saw part of this movie was many years ago on a weekend I was about to leave for work. I chanced it on a TV chanel that was showing it with a lot of commercials. About a tenth way through it I had to leave without even knowing the title but knew I wanted to see the whole movie uninterrupted again. My sesrch began at movie rental stores but couldn't find it and nobody seemed to know the title from my descriptions. Then a few years later I volunteered at a Restore and there it was on VHS cassette for sale at $0.50. However my excitement turned into disappointment later that evening when I discovered that most part of the recording on the VHS was destroyed. Nonetheless I now knew the title and so the search continued. A few more years later I was finally able to rent the movie on a DVD disc from Netflix and several more years bought my own prized copy on Amazon prime. Now I can watch it anywhere I go for free on youtube. I love America.

So i guess i’d be like a _lightweight_ John Wayne fan. i grew up idolizing him & i’ve seen a lot of his movies but i know very little about “behind the scenes” stories. Over the years i’ve noticed that there are a few actors who are in A LOT of Mr Wayne’s films. For instance there’s Hank Worden - this time i think he only had five words - Quirt Evans, you know *_HIM?!_* - yet other times he has a substantially bigger part. Just watched him in McClintock & i believe it was in The Searchers that he had a bigger part .. & _something_ about a rocking chair? Sorry i am getting old & the memory goes, you know so please bear with me? .. ANYWAY! _sorry_ .. TY for graciously allowing me to abuse your thread, sorry again. 🤟🏼🕊️💕
