    Let's see if Mclaren's new GT can at least match the packaging. When the F1 came out, it was miles above any other supercar - it made them all look like cheap plastic toys for adults in comparison. Just about the only thing it needed (they tried though) was today's brakes and rubber and maybe a tad more downforce without changing the looks. I mean there are videos of the XP5s record attempt out there where they moved the rev limiter out - it did a calculated quarter mile in 10.6 at 142 mph, 19 sec to 186 mph and 23 seconds to 200... kzread.info/dash/bejne/gH-Yzrt7o7zSZbg.html

    It’s quite interesting to note that the cars being built today that most resemble the F1 in body design (afaik, don’t kill me if I’m not 100% right) are those built by Koenigsegg. I have always appreciated conservative and function-driven design and Christian Koenigsegg has done more with less since the company started. Now, if only the automotive community could persuade Freevalve to build camless heads for powerplants already in production or those classics that would be able to produce way more power at higher efficiencies than with conventional technology of today.

    Gordon Murray himself has no gone it alone and built a fan car that looks very similar to a McLaren F1. It even has a similar V12 engine in it. It's basically an updated McLaren F1. If he can get the money, he should totally build a car that pushes the boundaries of what is possible. Imagine a massive 7L+ quad-turbocharged V12 engine which on it's own would produce about 1,000 HP, and then add a Le Mans style hybrid system which can add another 300. They should use some of the technology that has been made since the F1, like the Koenigsegg Light Speed Transmission, the Pagani Huayra's bonkers active aerodynamics, 4 wheel steering and Rimac's torque vectoring for use on the hybrid system. It would probably cost an obscene amount of money, but it would take almost a decade for anyone to catch up, just like the original McLaren F1.

  • @sebastianjo752

    @sebastianjo752

    5 ай бұрын

    @potatogirlcultist19 I don't think you need 7l, if you want to turbocharge it. The Valkyrie uses a 6.5 l engine that produces 1000hp na, köenigsegg 5l with turbo chargers for 1600hp. Also I don't think gorden murry would want to add any hybridity it just adds weight. But yes a halo car by him would be awesome

    Nick you are showing your ignorance here, McLaren consulted with and gave BMW the opportunity to participate in the F1 program. The engine design parameters were set by McLaren and BMW built it under contract for this project exclusively. You probably don't know this but in a similar collaboration the Williams F1 team designed and fitted a special one off V12 in the 1999 Chassis that won Le Mans and Sebring on its first and only attempts. The BMW V12 LMR was built by Williams F1 as a prelude to the next season in F1 where Williams partnered with BMW as their engine suppliers, ultimately to buy the team. 1999 saw Mercedes reintroduce the flying car with Mark Webber flying twice before the race and once during the race. They withdrew the other team cars as a result.

    So ahead of its time. So sad to see its struggling nowadays and a toxic environment to work in. I suppose thats what happens when money is tight. I honestly think if maclaren did 7 years of free servicing like ferrari people wpuldnt be so afraid of owning one. F1 is as fast as my 992 turbo 100-200kph and thats 25 years younger. Bonkers

    lol. This is coming from an absolute corvette FANATIC, ok.. you’re comparing a car that isn’t maybe 6 months old and has 70 years of experience to a 100% hand built by a team of what? 35 guys?(And girls) from a company with zero experience in the consumer market and production sectors all based on an idea of a single man who had such unbelievable measures of perfection that this same thing probably couldn’t be replicated even today. And we’re talking about the 90s man. The late 80s early 90s corvette didn’t have even 250hp because the emissions laws and that’s GENERAL MOTORS IN THEIR ENTIRETY COULDN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO COMBINE MAX HP AND STILL ACHIEVE A CLEAN EMISSION, this small team did it in weeks. You can’t compare any other automotive project to the McLaren XP project it’s just some random glitch in the fabric of the space-time-continuum that all the exact planets (ppl) aligned at the exact moment in history and maybe the only one ever at the only manufacturer that would consider this where a completely unnecessary and outrageously complex and over built vehicle that would not only be faster than any other vehicle in production but faster than their own Fkn open wheel F1 car. Unbelievable.

    This is the best car ever ! It has only 1 default to my humble opinion : too soft suspensions and no anti roll bar ! If I recall even Gordon Murray admitted it ! And maybe slightly wider up to 2 meters would have been a bit better for aerodynamics and as well for comfort inside !

    Dear Nick Your sombrero is on too tight ! While the Veyron and Chiron are wonderful technology demonstrators, they are hardly useful transportation devises. At top speed the Veyron has 12 minutes in motion and 14 minutes of tire life, good thing the French didn't get it backwards. And where would you suggest using this Motorcar? McLaren and indeed the entire British Formula One paddock has a combined knowledge base on par with NASA or ESA. 90% of this group is British even if you check the names (James Allison Chief Chassis designer) of the Ferrari team you will find a huge integration of the best of British engineering. As for the US talent, you need to look no further than the Tesla and Elon Musk. You can buy a grocery getter that out accelerates any Hypercar on Street tires that don't cost 3000 euros each as on the Veyron that last 12 minutes. Just look at the McLaren Senna and try to remember what you thought was cool about the Veyron. Again not trying to be unkind, but marshal your facts, have a think, and then comment. Sorry to break it to ya bud but the McLaren F1 legendary status has spanded decades (if you include early staged development) and is still remembered as one of the most iconic supercars in history, employing revolutionary design and engineering solutions, a record lap holder for 10 years or so, and a 90s body design that is still contemporary today AND worth millions. What more could you ask for?
