Truth In 24

Спорт

"Truth in 24" chronicles the Audi Sport racing teams as they attempt to win a record fifth consecutive 24 Hours of Le Mans. The films gives viewers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes view of the strategies engineers and drivers use as they set out to make history against local favorite, Team Peugeot. "Truth in 24" rides alongside drivers Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish and Dindo Capello as they prepare for the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans contest. Unlike any sports production, the film brings out all the drama and emotion of the 76-year old race and the people trying to win it.

    This was produced by NFL Films and I had the pleasure of doing the finishing. To this date, it's still one of the most fascinating projects I've worked on. I especially love the sequence where our producers put a camera on a car for a practice lap and Allan McNish narrates from the driver's perspective. It's too bad it's out of sync.

Imagine the courage to bring diesel engines to racing, to the toughest gruelling race of Lemans and win it. Everyone from the Director of the Audi sport down to the mechanic was completely all in throughout the process. Its people before machines all the way. Thank you for this movie.

    1:20:00 - 1:22:30 - pretty tense between TK and Haynes. Haynes: "let's get inters on." TK: "weather's dry" Haynes: "inters I'm soaking wet in the lane, inters, Tom." Audi #2 puts inters, Peugeot goes slicks. TK: "I would like to know what Peugeot has done." Haynes: "Tom, let's not worry about Peugeot. I want you to get through this race on the tires you have on your car." Peugeot spins. TK: "These tires are perfect. Half the track is wet." Hayne says "Copy That. You have a 2 min 35 sec lead. Do you understand?" TK: "Thank you very much. Now we're talking." Haynes unspokenly says, "Any other questions you have for me?" TK replies, "No, I think we're good. In fact, we're real good." Haynes: "That's why we get the big bucks, my friend." TK: "And the wins and honors too, H."

    It sounds more to me like he's saying "copy that, pit stop" as if to acknowledge Kristensen's report and summarise it as a potential pit stop for the affected car. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if he said piss off sneakily after Kristensen dared to argue with him but when you're dealing with professionals like them it wouldn't make sense for H to say that after getting a good report at that stage of the race. Just wanted to try and clear it up for anyone who has trouble with British accents or is a non-native speaker

  • @LupusAries

    @LupusAries

    7 жыл бұрын

    Possible both ways......;) I have a few friends with scottish and northern english accents, so I'm rather used to it. It would also be weird if he deviated from Radio Procedure, as they usually use box this lap etc. to communicate that he should come in. Similar to aviation, team radios can be tough to understand in certain situations, you use a lot of codewords or pre agreed phrases. Could've also been H being smart enough to say things in a way that he could say he was just tired and his speech not perfect, if he said piss off...........given that he knew he was on camera....;)

  • @speeddemon217a

    @speeddemon217a

    7 жыл бұрын

    Oh yeah, not denying that when H would call Kristensen in to the pit he would say box this lap which you hear him say at other points. When he said pit stop I think he was using short hand to say "copy that, Peugeot car has suspension problems and will need to pit as soon as possible" not "copy that, time for you to come in to the pits Tom". It was my fault though for wording it awkwardly though so sorry for the confusion :D

    Peugeot may have won the buildup races to LeMans through pure speed but Audi is built not just for speed but durability to withstand 24 hours of flat-out racing pace through both low-speed sections in the corners and chicanes and high speed through the Mulsanne Straight. Also, the drivers are the best of the best in endurance racing.

    The funny thing is, that I've heard the same statement as Herr Baretzky made in totally different area, steam locomotives. There are those two locos, the Merchant Navy Pacific and West Country/Battle of Britain Light Pacific, designed by Olliver Bulleid, that are uncommonly quiet for steam locos, only having a whisper instead of the usually more pronounced bark. And that is attributed to the same reason as the Audi Engine......very good internal layout, so that most of the energy is used for traction. In other words it's so quiet, because it's so effective. Further proof of the concept from a totally unrelated area. ;)
