McDonald's - "McDonaldland Glasses to Go" (Commercial, 1976)

Here's a commercial (with the "Glasses to Go" jingle) for McDonald's, featuring the original McDonaldland "Collector Series" character glasses - only 49 cents which includes a medium soft drink. There were 6 glasses in total: Grimace, Ronald McDonald, Captain Crook, Big Mac, Mayor McCheese and the Hamburglar.
The Mayor McCheese glass was featured this week at participating Chicagoland area McDonald's Restaurants.

This aired on local Chicago TV early Sunday, September 12th 1976 during the 12:00am to 1:00am timeframe.

lol...started singing this out of the blue...this is about 46 years ago...I know that I was 5 when this came out. lol

I wish McDonald's still had Ronald McDonald, Mayor McCheese, The Hamburglar and all those.. Nowadays most McDonald's don't look anything like McDonald's used to look like.

The McDonaldland concept was ripped off from Sid and Marty Krofft, who sued McDonalds over it. The case dragged on for years, before it was settled in favour of the Kroffts. As a result, McDonalds got rid of many of the McDonaldland characters.

We had a set of these from the 80s
I have wanted to see this commercial again since this campaign ran. I always thought “even Ronald” was an odd lyric. He was the main character. Of course I was a kid then. 😃

Me too !!! I was like 13 years old and thought the blonde with the pony tail was so cute !! But never saw her again and I never forgot this commercial !! lol

Yes, it's insanely catchy. Not quite Bruce Willis on the porch singing of Seagrams Golden Wine Coolers catchy, but it's good.
I had every one of these glasses as a kid, but they eventually broke. I found all 6 glasses again on eBay and flea markets about 20 years ago and I take excellent care of them. BTW, the Captain Crook glass was my favorite.

I remember looking for this commercial a while back, never found it till today, I was starting to think that I imagined the damn ad, thank you so much for helping me not to go insane lol!!!!

I still remember this song.
I have not seen this commercial since way back when, but yet I still remembered the words to the song as well as the from Burger King! Some things just stick in your head. We are talking over 40 years!
I wonder if George Lucas was watching this commercial when it aired and saw something that gave him inspiration for a certain hairstyle on a certain character from a certain movie he was making at the time.

By September 1976 they had completed principal photography on Star Wars. But it's a fun thought, anyway. :-)

The paint is on the outside of the glass. I have three here in the other room, on display. My brother I think has two others from this set at his house.

Anyone know the difference between the glasses that say collector series and the ones that don't? I have full set of collector series but have seen the same ones without that written on them.
My family member has a cup with all the McDonald's characters it's from 1977🍩
