I met Mboya when I was ten years old, he was our representative in the part of Nairobi where we lived, but I never really got to know just how special he was because I was too young. As I now learn from these historical clips, I realize how fortunate I am to have personally met him. Mboya belonged to a special caliber of gifted, intelligent , articulate and profound thinkers who are extremely rare in the Kenya of today. The elimination of such individuals in Kenya's short history has landed the country to its present deplorable state.

Described as the ultimate economic manager, policy maker per excellence, the most respected thinker in the history of independent Africa- his Sessional paper No. 10 of 1965 was considered a masterpiece, the best ever conceived by an African towards economic growth. Seems like the only person Kenya killed and cannot replace- the man Kenya will never forget- The guy had the ability- or so it seems- to drive Kenya's economy beyond that of even South Africa and Nigeria which are largest in Africa.....sadly we killed him at only 39

Mboya was pro-West. The difference was that unlike most hot headed politicians of those days he was able to think through issues more clearly than his colleagues and appearing as highly pragmatic. Being pro-West was not his primary concern, even though his line of thinking strongly coincided with socio-economic models of the West.

Stop hiding behind some nameless imperialists to provide cover for Mboya's assassin's. Mboya was assassinated by Jomo Kenyatta's inner circle who saw him as a threat to their interests. The man who fired the bullets when asked why he killed Mboya stated, "why don't you ask the big man?" There could have been a few big men even in those days, but there was only one The Big Man. That was Jomo Kenyatta. The truth is stubborn and it will keep on knocking until the door is opened and it is heard.

@@muturiamugambi8075 It is a common trend among leaders of questionable capabilities. You may recall Hitler's Night of Long Knives, do you? Among the people he killed in an orgy were his loyal allies with whom he had jointly risen to power. Even Nyerere developed some major issues with Kambona and the latter had to flee.Mboya was among the independence leaders who had demonstrated ability to create their power bases outside Kenyatta's influence. That should be an asset but it turns into a threat particularly if the one in power is less gifted. There was nothing international about their deaths. They died as a result of local power struggles. The first to go was Pinto who was a key player in Jaramogi's scheme of things. Next to be sidelined was Jaramogi, and ostensibly, Mboya was among the people who orchestrated it. Kenyatta was pulling the strings. With Jaramogi sidelined, Mboya became the target. First attempt on his life was in 1967, when his security guard at home opened fire on his vehicle. Then of course came 1969 and he was assassinated. It didn't end there. Ngala was next in 1972. And Argwings K'Odhek gad already been dispatched on February 1969. But even with all that, the vampires in Kenyatta regime were not satisfied. Six years after Mboya, JM was assassinated in one of the most macabre killings in Kenya''s post independence history.

  • @georgeodhiambo598

Far from it. This speech was made before independence. Mboya was killed a decade or so later. Mboya's death had nothing to do with the East/West tensions. It was due to local political struggles and the foundation for it is very well set out in David Goldsworthy's book titled, Tom Mboya: The Man Kenya Wanted to Forget. Kenyatta was the mastermind of Mboya's killing. And Mboya was not the only one of his victims. Pio Game Pinto was his first victim. There are suspicions that Argwings K'Odhek was next in February 1969. Mboya followed in June 1969. It was and is still loudly whispered that Ngala was his next victim in 1972. JM closed the chapter of his victims in 1975.
